Is the chance of decapitation perk worth it

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 2:59 am

I kind of wish I hadn't selected it. It's satisfyingly awesome at first, but then it happens every single time. I haven't seen a proper finishing move in ages. Almost every kill is a decap, and it gets annoying watching their head slowly sink through their chest and fall out between their legs. Wish it would at least bounce off realistically, watching something clip through another thing in slow motion every kill drives me nuts.

If you can afford it...it's cool to have such great finishers. With dual-wield, it's exactly like Spartacus finishing off Theokoles :D

The decapitation is just a little bonus. I picked up a mage companion, who hit my stormcloak just as I decapitated him.. the head flew so far... I had to squint to see it land... this sort of thing can really make a Dovahkiin's day.

Also, when it pops up at just the right time.

Spoiler
It also made my day that when Astrid took me to the abandoned shack at the start of the Dark Brotherhood questline, and told me someone had to die before we left the shack, watching her head roll felt so justified

It doesn't happen often enough for me to be annoying, maybe 1 in 10 gets lopped off... its not as if I'm swimming in heads.

+25% standing power attack bonus is constant. It's definitely worth it. And the decaps look awesome.

I play an Altmer, so refuse to take any more than the first obligatory extra damage, skilled not strong, so moves like this are absolutely essential for my character. That's before the 'A for awesome' quality that, while a bit cheesy and a matter of taste, is far and above that of the standard finishers.

The decapitations happen enough to be worth it, and the rare occasion when you see a decapitation from the first person view is so much cooler.

Two questions: Does this only work with dualwielding and only with swords?

Even without the decap its worth it. 25% damage bonus. And yes it is awesome.
25% bonus on power attacks can make a huge difference, trust me.

Not sure about maces, but I know it works with dual wielding axes, and I know it works with greatswords. There's a perk for it in the two-handed tree. I do it on my greatsword often. I've never tried it on anything other than dual axes, and greatswords, though.

I remember wanting it the whole way up the tree, then I took it and immediately thought "YESSS I hope I see it happen soon". I ran up a set of stairs at the end of the cave I was in, bumped into a bandit chief and ended the fight with my first decapitation. Well, my first one in my regular form anyhoo.

EDIT: I'm gonna have to put a mace in my right hand, I'd like to see it bat someones head off their shoulders just for the lulz. :celebration:

2 maces should have the Fallout head-pop effect.

That sword decap is brutal as anything though!

Most of my attacks are dual-wielding power attacks, mace in right hand, sword in left.

Would this perk work for my situation, or can you only decapitate and get the 25% bonus if doing one-handed power attacks?

Quenches my bloodlust and doesn't happen too often, which stops it from getting annoying or boring. And does a bit of extra damage, not a bad perk.

Keep in mind that without this perk you only have chance to trigger finisher animation with normal attacks while most often you will go for a power attack to finish off an enemy that is low on health. This perk will significantly increase the amount of animations plus you get 25% dmg increase to power attacks. Ofc its worth it.

@speccy

Yes it works for dual wield and it looks great...

It really isn't imo. Unless you want a bit of added gore.

Too many people overlook the 25% extra damage and only view this as a roleplaying perk, well that's their problem for not reading the smallprint :P

Wrong, it is 25% bonus damage on a standing power attack. If you use power attacks, it is of course worth it.
