The story honestly doesn't make a lot of sense.

This is what happen to me on my newest character.
I completed doing the rescue of Thorald Gray-Mane after him being abducted by the Thalmor and being kept in the dungeon in northwatch keep. Then I had Delphine want me to investigate the Thalmor by getting me an invitation to go to the Thalmor Embassy. I met up with her in solitude. Mind you that I just slaughtered a group of Thalmor's back in northwatch keep to rescue Thorald. If the guards (city ones) knew what I did over there I am certain that Elenwen knows as well. How on earth did I manage to get an invitation to go over there? Sure Delphine probably forged it but shouldn't the guards be on the look out? After all I'm the famously known as Aizen, the Dragonborn.

The worst thing in this questline is the lack of accomplishment IMO.Nothing really changes in the end.

Ok.. so you start the civil war questline, you have a few interesting quests to start, then it just turns into a garbage version of Mount & Blade with re spawning enemies in the forts.

They aren't quests, they are bonus combat rounds for free xp. See how many you can kill for extra points (and weapon skill) or let them beat on you (to train armor / block skills).

I agree though, it would have been cool if the later forts had something besides gumpy soldiers. Maybe the opposition gets a soldier (or whole platoon) that gets the essential tag and turns into a (non-essential, full health) werewolf when at 0 health, for example. Or maybe they convince a giant to help defend the fort in exchange for free food. And they build him some giant scale armor and magic items. Or all the defenders have been turned into vampires by their desperate leader in a last ditch attempt at defense, and won't come outside during the day, forcing you to clear the interior of the fort vs respawning vampires.

I did have one "fort capture" mission early on where a dragon landed in the middle of the fight. That was VERY cool, and I kinda expected similar things later on.

Hey I'll be grumpy too if I had to stay within the fort for as long as I am station there. The worst thing that could happen is if you get resigned for guard duty.

If you give a specific target, it's no worse than a DB assassination quest. If you limit you action to forts, then the danger of killing someone not intended is close to zero.
Not everybody a stealth type, so sending a macho warrior to march into the city, kill a certain general would cause lots of npcs to turn hostile.
The seige should take longer and have more stages and more npcs in them. There should be more quest before each fortress too.

If player would have to do at least three quest that involve taking out currier or taking over the new shipment of supply then the uniqueness of them would suffer while the overall content would increase.

The main characters have so little characterization that their dialogue is mostly cloned so both sides are the same.

EXACTLY!

People are complaining about the college quest line but this is worse!

How about sending an agent, someone who does not belong openly to the legion or the Stormcloacks, to assasinate a Jarl? What about penetrating in the castle/fort vault and steal the soldiers salary or destroying their food reserves (or poisoning their wells with the corpse of an animal) ? I can think of dozen of more intriguing missions for an individual who is recruited for his/her talents.

Thats why theres professionals planning out these games, so we dont get the pleasure and fun of sabotaging a well. Anyway, if the entire game was centered around Defense and mIlitary conflict, i would understand the gripes, but its a small part of the game, and for what its worth i thought most of it was enjoyable. Especially the few earlier quests exploring the ruins taking out stormcloaks

I didn't mind the story. It was having to replay almost every quest in the Civil War because of glitches that pissed me off. Empty forts, the legate not having the dialogue to give me my new orders, everyone dissapearing after getting them down to around 5%, etc.

It was the most frustrating questline in the game for me due to the glitches.
