Do the clothing options actually offer any protective benefi

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:02 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew if the apparel options provided any damage resistance like they did in Bethesda's previous work, Fallout 3? And if so, does the increased bulk also come with a movement restriction to offset their protective advantage?

For example, the video "A Matter of Class", features two very impressive Jacket options called "The Tank" and "The Bomb" that look like they would be perfect for Heavy Engineers who will find themselves stationary targets while making a stand defending a particular area (I was going to insert screenshots of these items but couldn't figure out how to post them - I saw the insert image icon but it required me to enter an "image URL" and I have no idea how that works).

Forgive me if this is a repeat question that has already been asked and answered.

They're only cosmetic.

This isn't Bethesda's, but Splash Damages work, btw. And no RPG.

just for the looks,
so a shirtless guy can take the same number of bullets as a guy with tons of armor (of the same size)

Although something cool like 'The Bomb' getting explosive resistance, 'The Anger' getting slightly more damage with knives, etc, would be interesting. I believe it is only cosmetic.

Fallout 3 and the rest of the fallout series is an RPG game not like Brink, which is a FPS.

I think the reason they did that was so that you didn't have to relinquish the character you desired because the clothing had special purposes that you sought after.
For example: You wanted to make a character modeled after The Anger, but you couldn't because you wanted to be able to use an ability exclusive to The Fortress such as increased armor or explosive resistance. Besides, considering the fact that you can mix and match archetypes, it would throw that system all out of whack.

the symphony of guns video states more armour means more noise. so it's possible there are minor tweaks to stats but probably not huge tweaks. probably a trade off on minor damage reduction vs stealthier movement. not by enough for anyone to care though

Putting more/different clothing on your character will cause different (possibly more) movement-sounds, this is correct.

Any game that has costume customizations with actual effects on stats end up with a bunch of fugly looking demon-spawns online.

How about if I make a Bowie costume when I play Resistance?

People compare the two often enough (usually before anyone tells them Lady Gaga is female).

No, but they shoulda put a teletubby hat or something that secretly give you damage resistance.

giggety.

but I'm glad they didn't do that, like someone else so eloquently put it, I don't want to have to make my character a "fugly demon spawn" to be effective because of clothing bonuses

No, because if it did almost everyone would go The Bomb or The Shield. If they did decide to do it that way, the weight of the outfit would also have to be a factor.

It does make sense that SD have the outfits cosmetic only, or else everybody would want ONE outfit.

It's a great way to keep it personalized.
