The Courier's Vault?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:50 am

I was wondering, I noticed, that in New Vegas, your character known as (correct me if I am wrong), "The Courier", has a PIP-Boy. Why is that? I thought only Vault Dwellers got Pip-Boys. Was the Courier a Vault Dweller? And if so, what Vault? Will this information be discussed in New Vegas? Or just passed off as he doesn't remember. I just really want to know.

Perhaps the Courier was a VERY compulsive gambler and was placed in Vault 21, then released when Mr.House bought the Vault, and became a Courier later in his life. Can someone please answer this for me?

Its been confirmed that he got it from Doc Mitchell after being patched up, he is a Wastelander not a Vault Dweller. :tops:

The person that saved his/her life gave "The Courier" a pipboy as he was from the vault.....

So, Doc Mitchell was a Vault Dweller? Okay, where did he get 2 PIP-Boys?

Some one gave him their pip boy as payment for his services as a doctor?

The possibilities are endless

He didn't. He gave you his pip-boy because he doesn't need it anymore, as far as I understand.

He only has one as far as we know.

He gives the courier that and a vault 21 jumpsuit.

Mitchell himself originated from Vault 21 where all all conflicts are solved through gambling.

As everyone else has said:

The courier is not from a vault (Damn, this is gonna mess me up. I was hoping I'd somehow recreate my Fallout 3 character albit three years older! :sadvaultboy: ).

The doc who came from Vault 21 gives you his.

You could make amnesia part of the story of how he got to New Vegas, maybe like the airship crash in Tactics except where he forgets everything and starts a new life in the Mojave? Just an idea. Haha. :]

I still say we're gunna find out that Doc Mitchell is manipulating the Courier for some ulterior motives... Why else would he give away such valuable gear, and spend valuable resources ressurecting the Courier?

Good idea. Like he decides that DC's had enough of him, so he travels across the continent helping people here and there until he finally reaches New Vegas. He becomes the Courier until he's captured and shot by Benny (which gives him amnesia, which helps explain why he's going to have to relearn how to shoot a gun, use a pipboy, etc.)

Eh, it's not very original. I hope it's optional to relearn everything, so I can just walk out the door and begin the new adventure.

EDIT: I concur, francisthemutant. If the Wasteland of DC taught my character anything, it's don't blindly trust anyone, anywhere.

well you'd have to take in account why he doesnt have his old Pip-boy anymore, speaking of.
e

How the hell did DoC mitchell take off his Pipboy? or was it Not on him by the time NV starts and if so the question still stands how did he take it off, isnt it pretty difficult?.

Uhm, he just removed it from his hand? The biometric seal is just FO3's 101 Overseer's way to make it's residents more loyal (by not taking their Pip's off)

I like the question of why better. Why in the world would you give you pip boy to a random person from a grave let alone save them? Good guy or not, if he's that loose with his pipboy Im suprise he still has it.

Well, he's likely just old and happy with the life he's made in Goodsprings. To be quite honest, I'd find a pipboy useless if I lived in a town for 10+ years. So maybe he just thinks 'Here, take these, they'll be more useful on your quest to find out who shot you than me being a small town docter.'

Or even easier: he was shot in the head and forgot what happened. I wonder why the devs didn't think of that :D

Yeah, that's what I had in mind. Dude's shot in the head and he forgot everything that's happened in DC and the accident. All he knows is that he's woken up next to this doc and he's missing something.

Figure the whole amnesia thing works pretty smoothly with more or less every RP-take on it. Three cheers for more open background! :foodndrink:

I don't know about that...

Seems like any RPG with any connections to Japan whatsoever has that "look at me I've got amnesia but I'm still s strong person" aftertaste. And If it's REALLY Japanese, the characters strength will come from the love they have for their friends...barf

There are still good people in this world who value human life other than their own.

Like Harold and possibly now Doc Mitchell. Perhaps doubly so considering he's a doctor.

He's just a medicine man in a sleepy wasteland town, The Courier is a guy that travels the waste and miraculously barely survives a shot in the head. I think the miracle patient could use the help a lil bit more.

My thought was more, he probably has saved more people in his life than The Courier. I'm sure there was more than one miracle patient in his lifetime as a doctor. I'm surprise he didnt give it away sooner.

Yeah. I think most likely I'll roleplay that James (or Catherine) had an unknown brother/sister (just because he never mentioned that doesn't mean he didn't have one or Catherine didn't have one) and my Curiouer is James'/Catherine's brother/sister or James'/Catherine's neice/nephew.

At any rate, I concur with above poster. Why can't the doctor just be a nice guy who thought "I will use the medical knowhow to save this poor gunshot victim!"? Just because it's after a nuclear apcolypse doesn't mean ALL human decency vanished.

I wonder....why the HELL everyone wants to be a character that's from FO3\A FO3's characters relative? You sound like little kiddos asking for it all the time.
