I think so. I picked up the hardcover. But then again, I enjoy having a physical book in hand over computer guides, and this thing is a monsterous tomb.

Actually, yes. Occasionally I'll get stuck on a quest, and the guide can help prevent frustration from setting in. The big value of the guide though is in the general hints and tips sections on the major skills and character types, which are well worth reading. Of course I try to keep from taking too close a look at the quests I've not done. I would hate to spoil any cool surprises.

This is the first Bethesda game I have not bought the guide for. As well as help on quests, the guides are very fun to watch and provide some back story. However, I chose not to this time around because I just wanted to explore the game without accidentally seeing neat places to go or how to do quests. These games are so much about exploration.

I bought the guide (paperback) and it shows as shipping soon on Amazon! Can't wait :twirl: I wondered also if it would be worth it, and everything I've gathered thus far, says, yes.

Edit: I didn't really get the guide for the walkthrough aspect of it, but more for information's sake. I like being able to use it as a reference guide -- which I've read reviews saying it's great for that :)

I tend not to buy them in TES games till I have explored the world greatly. They tend otherwise to be nothing more than massive spoilers. But with a game world this large I think at some stage you will need to turn to some sort of guide or you will miss a lot.

As for the official guide, well that is write by David Hodgson who is well respected and has a long history with Beth: including Oblivion and FO3

IMO Not worth it as you can just Google any question you have about the game.

While that is true the Beth/Prima/David Hodgson's books are well written, well illustrated and highly detailed on the background of the worlds they detail. It maybe worth it for the lore and artwork alone.

True. I got stuck once or twice before I bought the guide and found my answers easy enough in various forums. Still in all it's nice to have all the answers in once place, and as I noted in my earlier reply, the general hints and tips sections have been very helpful. If you're strapped for cash you can get by without it, but if you have the extra coin to spare and are a hardcoe fan like me  , I would say go for it.

For now I say "Yes" it is worth buying. It has helped me out alot. In a couple weeks all the info that is in the book will be online so then I dont see a point in having it.

The game guide was worth it on day one because of the scarcity of information online. However the longer you wait to buy it, the less valuable it is. TESwiki is coming along nicely, btw.

Yep, I got it for free as a pre-order bonus, but even if I would not have gotten it for free, I would have bought it

I bought it and it has helped me in some situations like Davin's bow and finding out how to become a cannibal. They also give you better choices to make when you deal with people through speech whether it is persuasion, intimidation or bribery.

Not really. From my past experience, official guides for almost all games(especially those from brandy games and Prima games) are usually the most useless of all.

As soon as the creation kit is released, you'll find uesp and elder scrolls wikia having much better and in depth information than the Prima guide. Casual gamers are always much better than those so called professional gamers/writers.

The map you get with it is worth it alone.
Very detailed and has roads with all locations. I'm not sure if it's only for pre order or hardcover but mine came with an online interactive map that is really really cool. My review on the guide would be perfect. The way it's set up it'd be kinda hard to see spoilers since each section has a spoiler bar scaling from minor to major. They also have an index that is very detailed and a list of everything in the game and all of the stats. The tips are awesome and the guide to set up your character is great. They put together a bunch of characters for the game, they all tell you what style of gameplay is best for that character, perks to be chosen etc. Best of all they tell you things about each race that people wouldn't know right from the start. Things that help you pick a better character.

Bottom line get the guide. Yes you can go online and look up most of the info that's in the book and in a month you can look it all up online but I promise it's not as well put together and as detailed. I always buy the guides with all my games(most), ones that I really like and keep, and this guide is the best one I have ever seen. Plus the thing is so big it makes you think you have something rare and special, I know sounds dumb but ask anyone who has the guide and they will know what I mean, at least for the hardcover. Did I mention the map is awesome.
