I'm on PC and I've had no major bugs at all.

Annoyingly enough, most of the minor bugs have shown up since the last patch.

Bottom line, it's a great game and very playable on most PCs. If you're a console player, you might want to hold off.

I bought this on the day of its release (PC collector's edition), but still haven't gotten around to properly play it. Without having to worry when the next crash is gonna happen, that is.
So no, hell no. Next time this developer and publisher release a game, it's back to the good ol' rule of thumb "Leech first, buy later".

What's really mysterious to me is why Fallout 3 worked flawlessly.

This. Never had any significant trouble running FO3. But New Vegas is a crashfest. Don't go anywhere near this game in its current state.

I'd say wait for a patch. Around 70% of the quests I've tried have had glitches, mostly minor, some major, which meant I couldn't complete them without console commands and the wiki.

For example, I was just doing a quest, told a NPC "Let's go" and he responded "Well, don't take too long..." - i.e. he thought I'd used the "Wait here" option (which gives the same response). Now, that's not major - I could carry on without him - but it's annoying because I'd chosen to take the path with him. That sort of thing happens a lot. I'm constantly wondering if I'm doing a quest the "right" way - a way that won't break it. But some people who breeze through the game doing the main quest, or who just aren't very observant, might not even notice.

But it'll be a good game when/if it's finished. It just isn't quite there yet.

I have it on the PC and have had very few problems (apart from forgetting to eat or sleep whilst playing this fantastic game), although I would advise setting Steam to offline while playing because I find that their advertising popups sometimes cause a CTD!

I wasn't sure if the pop-ups were a cause, or that they were circumstancial effects (pop-up when closing program).

Oh, yah, and I think it will go on sale too, that's another reason to wait, you can't find it anywhere right now under $47~

5-6 crashed per day.
Lag.
Serious glitches.
But if you liked Fallout 3 enough to play 100+ hours, then the glitches won't bother you.

The PC version is mega awesome, especially when you add the salvaged-robo-buddy mod that lets you build your own robotic compnions from salvaged parts, that are upgradeable, resizeable, renameable, and rearmable.

It works for me, yes NV has more bugs than the average Bethesda game, but that is what happens when devs can not have a certain release date pushed back... <_<

You didn't specify what system you were asking about. If you're thinking PC, then it sounds like a resounding yes. If you're thinking Xbox, my advice is to either wait a little while to get it at a discount. I have been playing it and enjoying it for dozens of hours, but last night was the first time I ever played it that I only had to restart once due to bugs. Fun game, yes, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend spending the full $60 on something that crashes multiple times per sitting.

I'd wait for the big patch, and then for the patch that fixes that patch. This game was obviously rushed out the door. I feel sorry for Obsidian to be honest they should have been givin atleast 6 more months to finish this game. Its still an amazing game, but if you are lookin for it to be 100% stable, you should wait.

My chosen path came to a screeching halt on the Oh My Papa quest because a dialogue option doesn't reappear if you had a conversation before you actually got the quest so we've gone rogue now as I don't like the other factions and haven't finished investigating the independent path. Things are still playable but I keep running into things that won't work and there's some daily freezing. I'm at level 30 and didn't do everything but now we're just swimming in Cottonwood Cove and making the occasional foray to the Fort to clear out the Legion guys outside of Caesar's tent.

You'll have to decide how you want to play; there's plenty to explore. I'm on PS3.

I'm on 360 and I bought it on the day of release, and while I have encountered bugs and glitches, I'd still highly recommend it. But I didn't pick the "absolutely" option, as I think that everything can be improved upon.

I agree with this and I'm still waiting before I purchase.
The Steam requirement bothers me to.
I uninstalled Windows Live when F3 came out and wrote a big tutorial on how to do it.
This doesn't look like an option with Steam. :(

I only had some small studding problems pre-patch (which where taken care of by using a D3d9.ill file, also had some problems and had to reinstall when the patch was released due to the modification i did to the Fallout_Default.INI file (you would think i would have just made a copy b4 i modded, but i never learn :P)

any way since the patch i haven't had any problems at all, not even 1 CTD and i am running many mods (around 15 .esp, would be more like 35, but i just decide to combine all the mods that add only 1 or 2 items).

there are still some buggy quests i would imagine but i haven't played all the quest yet so i cant say that for sure, but over all it's very playable and enjoyable.

i am not sure about some of the problems that others are reporting in other areas of the forums, i haven't had any though.

I'd pose this question on the Hardware and Software Issues forum...I think you would get a considerably different view to many people here. That's where the bulk of the 'calmer' and more dispassionate discussion of the game's failings is taking place.

I've only encountered very minor problems/glitches. I haven't seen anything worth making a fuss over. I think it's one of the best games I've ever played.

my thoughts exactly

if you don't mind losing a whole playthrough at any time for a multitude of reasons, then by all means, purchase the game now.

Stay far away. I understand that a lot of folks are only seeing "minor" glitches, but if you're like me and you get one of the game-breaking ones it's extremely frustrating. At least one of the bugs in my game (freezing when entering town accessible early in the game called Nipton) is apparently NOT fixed in the next patch. Do yourself a favor and just wait.

You are aware that there is a Quick Save as well as a Sub-Menu save? there is no excuse for losing any more than a few minutes of play.

I have 150 hrs of play and 800+ saves.

Wait for the upcoming "comprehensive patch". Infact no, wait to hear about it. That way you'll know what old bugs have been fixed, and what new ones have been added. Then you'll be able to figure out whether or not it's worth your time.

As of now though, you'd have to have extremely low standards and/or a concussion to say that this game "couldn't be better". Just wait for the next patch.
