Is the game too easy?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:13 pm

Love the game and the way you have to level up to tackle the tougher enemies. But these mostly seem to be animals/creatures?
I am currently level 16 and although i finished the game once i didnt notice this until my second play.
At level 16 i decided to be a psycho and join the legion, and once the ncr hated me i went straight for one of their camps. (forget the name, SW of map)
Single handed i wiped out 10 -15 normal troopers plus three "specials" Cass, Ghost and Jackson without breaking a sweat?
I know assasination squads are tough but surely there should be a special squad or two at every major base once you are an enemy of that faction?

Are you on Very Hard? But, the rate at which you level is ridiculous. I reached level 30 in half the time it took me on Fallout 3.

I think generally speaking the difficulty is pretty good. Like you say, you definitely feel the rewards when you level up in the tougher areas.

But I agree with what you say, some of the camps should be harder to take out I think. It's a vast improvement over F3 in terms of challenge though.

Sorry my mistake, i am on very hard which is great at the start but gets easy far too quick especially with humans.
Waiting for next major patch before i do hardcoe mode cos i want to really enjoy it.

Did you play as the gun or sniper build? It is the easiest build to play as in the game, even on very hard. I'm not sure about hardcoe mode though.

I would say yes, the game starts out OK, but eventually becomes way too easy, even on "very hard", just like Fallout 3. Fortunately for PC users, there are already plenty of mods that remedy this.

I don't think it's too easy

Then again I don't think it's too hard either provided that you are careful and plan ahead (and take advantage of the dumb AI)

There are actual hordes of enemies in this game. Basically Obsidian did something that Bethesda hasn't done, create hordes that actually pose a threat provided you are not careful.

I second this. Radscorpions are tough until the upper levels, but early on you are dead unless you can find a rock to climb on. This brings me to the most immersive thing I have experienced in a fallout game thus far:

So this was very early on in the game VH/HC. I was going south from Prim to go to the NCR camp (you know why). I was trying to cut the corner and I ran into some Jackals which took atleast half of my stimpacks and crippled a leg. It turns into night, and I am off of the road. I get a constant stream of feral ghouls, that manage to cripple every part of me except for one arm and soak up all of my 9mm ammo. So I wait out the night because I'm sick of ghouls. In the morning all I have as far as gund go is a beat up .357 magnum and a varmint rifle with like 30 shots. I then run into a hoard of radscorpions that would have killed me except I climbed on a well placed rock and took some pot-shots at them. By now I was dehydrated and had no water or anything to hydrate myself so I had to get out of there. I took a hydra and sprinted back to the road and took shelter in tha gas station and found shelter.

This was crazy becuase stuff like this never happened in FO3. This one part impressed me more than all of FO3 did total, but since then I is easy as long as you stay on the beaten path.

The game crashes and I just reload.
The town glitches and I just reload.
The save is corrupted and I just use an older one.
The game is too easy and I don't know what the heck to do.

Do I edit every single enemy to have higher DT or do I lower the damage on all guns? Do I add 1000 HP to every enemy? When the new patches come out will I have to do it all over again because they changed certain settings? I had this game since day 1 and I am yet to get past level 17. I tried Sniper and it was too easy. I tried melee and again it is too easy. Should I try energy weapons since people say they are underpowered? Should I just use explosives and not any range attack at all?

What happened to the days when Normal was hard and Very hard was are you out of your mind?

Dude, you think this game is too easy? Go fight a legendary deathclaw with a 12mm sub machine gun and AP rounds. Then we'll talk.

I tend to play these games for the overall experience more so than just the difficulty challenge. Though I believe each player has the ability to make this game as easy or as difficult as they want.

If you look again you will see i am on about the human enemies mostly!
I do find the creatures very good, obviously deathclaws which are much improved over fo3 but for me i like the "waspies" as i like to call them as they normally attack in groups and close distance on you extremley fast.

Fixed spawns: realistic world.
Leveled spawns: greater difficulty/challenge.

Which one should be more important?

Shouldn't the fixed spawns be harder? If I am a level 2 and I enter an area of deathclaws or high leveled humans shouldn't I get smoked?

Too easy for who?

I play hardcoe easy setting, that mix is about right for me, battling my way through tough enemies every 5 minutes just does'nt do it for me, now the survival aspect on the other hand is what I'm into, exploring, scavanging the land, making sure I've got water and food, these are the things that do it for me, although adimittedly at level 16 it's gotten a little easy keeping stocked up, will probably moved to hardcoe normal on my next character.

If you think the game is too easy, I highly recommend hardcoe Mode. I've been playing it on HC mode for the past couple of days, and there's a huge difference. The main thing has to do with the alteration of stimpacks. I hated in FO3 and in NV Normal Mode how you can just pull up your Pip-Boy in the middle of a fight and stim yourself to full health. It makes you invincible no matter what difficulty you play it on. With HC Mode, this isn't the case because stims heal over time. So if you take too much bulk damage at once, you die, no matter how much you try to heal. It forces me to fight strategically, taking on one or two mobs at a time, rather than diving headlong into a horde and just stimming myself like crazy to get through the fight. I actually die quite often on HC Mode, and that's rewarding because the Wasteland doesn't feel like a walk in the park.

The funny thing about that is.... I found the game harder on Normal than Very Hard. I wonder if they somehow messed the settings up?

Edit: thedevilduster... I can't speak for the OP but I know me personally it's not that I don't die quick enough, because if i get swarmed I usually do, it's some of the bad guys do especially humans.

I'm talking about mid to high level.
When you're level 20 there is no reason to anywhere on the southern half of the map because enemies are so low leveled that they don't present a challenge and the loot is plain simply crap.
So with Fixed spawns it might be harder at first, sure, but at later levels most of the worlds enemies are cakewalk.
With leveled enemies like FO3 you could go anywhere and enemies would always present some challenge at least.
So that's what I meant with it.

Thnx cos i didnt know that about the stimpack difference. That is exactly how i was killing every ranger who i came across, pausing and healing non stop. When new patch is out i will definetly play hardcoe
with the stims working that way.

You also have to use a doctor's bag, hydra or see a doctor to heal limbs too Mully79. hardcoe in my opinion makes the game a lot better.

If you're on a PC just install the new patch. That'll make the game tougher :P

Agreed. hardcoe Mode is one of the coolest things I've ever seen implemented in an RPG, not just because of the reasons we mentioned, but also because of the micromanagement strategies. I love having to find water, eating and sleeping. And having to break down my ammunition so that it doesn't weigh me down is very unique. With all of the features in hardcoe Mode, it makes Fallout feel like it isn't a video game, and more like I'm actually living in the Wasteland. Obsidian hit it out of the ballpark when they came up with this option.

The game isn't too easy. As players adapt to the game it appears easier. The first character I played was horrible. An escaped convict with a .357 gave me trouble. I made another character, learning from my previous mistakes. The game seemed so much easier because I knew what weapons worked and which ones didn't. Also, as the character levels up the ability to survive should be easier. It's a given that some enemies will still present a problem though. For instance, I can't take on more than one deathclaw without sniping from far away.

As far as hardcoe mode, I hate it. I don't mind the stimpaks healing over time or the bullets having weight but the water, sleep, and food aspects irritate me. It became more of a chore to drink or eat all the time than it was rewarding. I never once ran low on food or water (or beds). The problem is that the character doesn't automatically drink and eat. Instead I have to go into my pipboy and use the food or water. It was more tedious than rewarding.

I did finish one playthrough on hardcoe mode. The rest, however, have seen me with hardcoe mode off.
