the icy waters of the north

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:37 pm

Does anyone ells feel that there's not much happening where the icy waters of the north is .
other than a guardian stone , a single cave/dungeon that doesn't lead anywhere , and random snow bears and sabre cats an goat's on remote island's isolated from the mainland .
just feel it would be kool if there was some sunken dungeons or temples under water . or some giant sea creatures like Giant squids or something.
Also i feel that because the waters are so cold it should be appropriate that your character cant be in the water for to long because
he/she will get hypothermia and your health will be damaged .

maybe its nothing and i don't expect allot of responses but im just putting it out there i guess .

ideas would be a plus , what do you guys think should be in this place ?

I really like your idea but they would need to integrate underwater combat which I doubt will happen.

Yeah, I carry around an enchanted ring named "scuba gear" that gives me the ability to breath under water. I know I'll never really need it, but it would be nice if I did.

The Sea of Ghosts should definitely play a bigger part in Skyrim. I love the ice fields of Winterhold, and the bleak coasts of Haafingar and the Pale.
I agree that there should be more up there. If you're hungering for something to do up there, consider doing the quest 'Rise In The East' in Windhelm, if
you havn't already.

But yeah, the harsh, deadly and inhospitable environment of the northern seas is a gold mine of opportunities - Bethesda should really focus on it some more.

I've always argued that we should be given the opportunity to help Winterhold get back on track, one way or another - Winterhold is my favourite hold, and I would
love nothing more, than to actually do something about the sad state the hold is finding itself in. Like if perhaps Whistling Mine actually began to turn out Gold or Ebony Ore,
and that people from all across Tamriel would come to try and get a slice of the pie, thus bringing Winterhold back on the map.

Additionally, I guess the weather is messed up. Winterhold is almost always beneath snowstorms, but if you get even further north, the weather gets really friendly and does not look cold at all (even goats are there). Weird.

I take it that you've not found the ship graveyard then, with four sunken ships close together? Personally I think it's about right though: it's an icy wasteland and no-one, not even Nords, want to live there (or be buried there).

I have swam upto and tried to climb up on all the icebergs north of winterhold but sadly I found no hidden items or easter eggs. They are really interesting though and maybe there IS something hidden down there on the seafloor.

For people on the PC, there are a lot of mods which seem to capitalise on the fact not much is going on in the Sea of Ghosts. I've seen a few quest mods and the like. Plus there are hypothermia mods.

It's a same for those only on console though. I imagine it is something which could be worked on in a DLC. :D

It DID feel like there were just a few ship wrecks and that was that.

It's Winterhold's jail. The Atronachs are the guards, that's why more attack you when you try to leave.

I looked vainly in the north for that wrecked boat which might explain
Spoiler
the past of Rune, a member of the Thieves Guild.

Seems like that one was cut and/or incomplete. There is also, frustratingly, an aptly named ship called Orphan's Tear off the coast of Solitude. But no dice.

Try it. The guards even say "enjoy the chill".

I like the bleakness of the coast / sea of ghosts. I'm not saying that just to be different either. I've often stopped and just looked out over the sea. I really want to go to Atmora, even though I know that it shouldn't be possible lore-wise.

Now I think about it, I used to enjoy walking through the Jeralls in OB, knowing there was nothing else around; a little break from all that adventuring and listening to "I saw a mudcrab..." If only we had water-walking back, the far North might engender the same feeling.

I think you'll need Waterbreathing if your exploring Pilgrims Trench -and in some caves just for safety- unless you argonian.. but apart from that, the sea floor is empty so theres no real need.

Also speaking about the north, why don't horkers follow me into the sea, and why is there no killcam for killing horkers!

are you kidding me? theres a lot of sunken ships, unmarked locations and not to mention far east of winterhold is what looks to be the remains of a Knight of the nine with a book, a dagger and a flag blowing in the wind.

there seems to be a massive amount of empty space around the edges of the map. hopefully it'll be expanded in future DLC

Apparantly the fortress of the VLs is meant to be in the far northwest ... so i guess theres something for the north in Dawnguard
