What the hell is an RPG with no open ending!?

An RPG. Nothing less. And likely better than one with an open ending.

Most RPG's I've ever played have definite endings.. In fact the only ones I can think of that allow you to run around after the game is complete are morrowind and oblivion. Gothic 1-iv had endings. Baldur's gate had endings.. Fallout 1, 2 ,3 had endings.. Fallout 3 had an ending until 8 months after the game was released and Broken Steel came out.

You must be thinking of games like GTA..

I still want to know how many RPG's out there let you continue after you beat them (fallout 3 doesn't count, you need to pay to play after the ending).

Great many I suppose, since, despite having played some RPG's in my time and seen only a handfull with open ending, many people seem to hold it as a staple of the genre.

Kind of like because you can import your save from Mass Effect 1 to 2, everyone thinks all RPG's should do that now.

My opinion is that Yes Obsidian is a poorly run company, that should not be allowed to make games unless some1 from Bethesda is in office with them 24/7, but not for a lot of the reasons put forth, they do not handle deadlines like they should, they dont test as they should, and they try to ride on laurels that just dont apply to the modern gamer, fallouts 1,2, and the BOS, were great games, but their 3rd person cartoony graphics svck by comparison to bethesdas 1st and 3rd switch type, I think they dragged their feet because of the problems from their former company (vain hope of being picked back up) (aint gonna happen,.... they gonna lose case !), I personally believe that fallout 3 was a much better game then fallout NV, with exception of character movement, and I am hoping it gets even better in fallout4 (including a crawl mode of movement and stance), but I am also hoping that if they dont fire the whole obsidian team, they do keep better watch over them in the future, and may the case in court be over soon, so we can move forward with a bit more security, that the franchise is not in danger from a 3rd party, (especially one that has a history of making bad choices).

Right on the money (slang)

Something like that, yes.

I've seen some people use romances to argue for the same effect too. Don't really know what to think of all this. :P

I'm sorry I have no idea WTF you said..

You are referring to people kissing Obsidian's ass. However, I don't think anybody on this forum who can actually be considered an Obsidian ass-kisser, merely defending them or just being a fan. It is obvious you think lowly of Obsidian because you think they don't care about their customers or something. Basically, you are saying people who have a different opinion about Obsidian than you are the cause of you having a low opinion of Obsidian. My question is how exactly does Obsidian not care about their fans when they are actively working to fix things in game and haven't dropped support? What exactly makes you think Obsidian doesn't care?

I could have sworn they said right at the start there would be no ending retcon, or playing past the ending with this edition. I still don't see why its so hard to save right before the ending? If they caved in, and came out with a 5th DLC that pushed us past the ending it would be complete rubbish, and I am 99% sure it would not favor the Legion in any way.

As for 7 DLCs it was a rumor, just like them bringing back a FO:3 character. Snippets get heard, and people extrapolate upon them in ways they where never meant to. Its a shame.

I for one am glad they pushed OWB back until July that means Lonesome road will be at the earliest August maybe September. Do people really want this set to be over that quickly? It will at least be two more years probably before we see FO: 4. Once Lonesome Road hits we have a long dull wait upon us.

Obsidian was contracted to develop a new Fallout game using Gamebryo and Fallout 3's resources.

That's a fact.

To waller04: FNV = Fallout 3. It's Bethesda's engine which Obsidian worked with.

How much more obvious does it have to be for everyone to realize what a half-assed job the people at Ob[censored]ian are doing...
let's see where to begin...Ob[censored]ian first released New Vegas with so many glitches and bugs the game was literally unplayable to hundreds if not thousands of gamers...Next they take forever to release a patch that finally allows us to play the game they screwed up to begin with...not to mention the lack of information the developers chose to give us...after that the constant delays lack of information and lack of dedication to release dates they themselves would give us...and please spare me the "when did they give an official date?"...June is over...no OWB...is LR coming in July probably not...look at it this way...this would be like a car dealership telling you..."Thanks for purchasing our car...but be careful we didn't finish putting it together...but we'll get to fixing it real SOON...WTF?!?!

Umm yeah you're full of it MrBlue, the game was perfectly playable for me and many many other gamers, and they released the first patch really quickly, in fact there have been many patches.

can't say that much about Fallout 3 which was not only broken on release, all its DLC's were broken on release.

I'm sorry. I thought this thread was about people whining about the delayed release. I didn't know it was just another FO1 vs. FO2 vs. FO3 vs. FO:NV vs. Black Isle vs. Interplay vs. Bethesda vs. Obsidian thread. I think I'll just go back to the guns threads and stay out of this incredibly immature tidal wave of reaction until the incredibly immature tidal wave of reaction to how terrible/short/glitchy/buggy/lore breaking/easy/hard/sixually ambiguous OWB is after it's release.

This is ridiculous. There is alredy a place for you to post your rants and rage fits.I dont see why you made 2 topics on this.

Ahh what ever,I dont think Im going to come back to the dlc general discussion part of the forums untill the 19th when all this immature flaming and over the top raging stops. This isnt saying the community as a whole is rotten, Im seeing lots of people giving thier opinions constructively, and nicely. But Im seeing to much needless insulting, idea bashing, and rage for my liking, and that makes me sad :sadvaultboy: .

Ill see yall on the 19th,and hopefully every one will have a more euphoric and stable outlook on things.Auf Wiedersehen!

Yeah this thread is dumb, OP seems to hate New Vegas just to hate it.

or he cut his finger on an obsidian and his hate has carried over to the game devs of the same name.

Well apparently Bioware is the writer of whatever is the equivalent to the Bible in RPG design.

Ob[censored]ian, cute.
First of all, Bethesda handled the QA and the release date, they could've postponed the release but didn't.
The lack of information is also on Bethesda's part as IIRC it's the publisher who decides what info goes out, and Bethesda are known to be very hush hush about stuff.
OWB's June was an estimated time release, does not mean that it was definite.

I'm full of it? Yeah great arguement Kyle...do some growing up then maybe you'll be able to contribute intelligently in discussions with the big boys...and no the game was not perfectly playable...if more than a handful of people are unable to play a videogame because of glitches and bugs...it's far from perfect...you must not know the definition of perfect...

I would rather have a delayed dlc then a broken one (aka all of the Fallout 3 DLC were broken on release), but not any of the New Vegas DLC, I was able to buy DM and HH and play them right away, which I can't say about any of the Fallout 3 DLC, when I bought those and played them they were BROKEN.

Honestly if you should hate anyone it should be Bethesda, they create bugs and glitches that happen to have video game content.

I'm 21, how old are you like 13? (25? eh you don't act it), and yes the game was perfectly playable for me and lots of other gamers, but hey why does that matter if a couple had bugs, time to condemn the game as [censored]. And I never said New Vegas was perfect, at all, no game is perfect, let alone New Vegas, but its a hell of a lot better then that mess of a game Fallout 3.
