Am i the only one who just plays?

I haven't made a background or anything for my character nor will I but I have thought up the basic principals of my class to help me in the game a bit earlier. However there's no telling if I will follow it.

Seems like the idea of not picking a class to start goes right along with your way of playing. Im not even going to read what perks are available in the online spoiler sites. Just see what comes from what I play. First time through anyhow.

I do that sometimes. But I still RP, I just say they have amnesia so I can do basically anything I want.

I don't really get how everyone can make a story and stuff.
That's fine. There's no "right" way to play an Elder Scrolls game. But you (and others who have said similar things in this thread) have to realize that Skyrim is a roleplaying game. Coming here onto the forum of a roleplaying game and saying I don't understand why people roleplay is a little like me going onto a Call of Duty forum and saying I don't understand why you all shoot soldiers. It doesn't make a lot of sense. This is a roleplaying game. A roleplaying game draws roleplayers. It's what we do.

I spend more time modding my Elder Scrolls games than actually playing them (since Daggerfall anyways).

Whoever made the windows you can see out of in Oblivion, you're a genius and I pray you'll do it again.

That was actually a trick that was invented by Morrowind modders. CRDuncan was one of the first, in 2003, to make a house mod with see-through windows. Later, modders like Korana made "dummy exterior cells" around an interior, which is what they did in Oblivion.

Guess I've been playing too much WoW/Rift, and really like my character to be the best it can be (go Air Force, ooops). Min/Maxing still does it for me.

Don't forget, there are 240 perks in the game, that will impact your character. If you want to be stronger in, let's say mage area, you need to put your perks there. So, just running around and not doing a solid build will definitely impact your character's strength (meaning what he'll/she'll be, i.e., mage, warrior, etc.)

You'll be a jack of all trades but a master of none.

Also different races have different strengths and weaknesses. Nords, for example, have bonuses in strength making them ideal for heavy armour and melee weapons but not so good for wielding magic. The Altmer, however, have bonuses in magic wielding but not in melee weapons or heavy armour.

The only one who knows any extra backstory or motivation for your character is YOU. The NPCs and Skyrim won't. It's all in your head, if you so choose it. But, I'm with you, no real planning besides race and combat preferences. It would be cool if I could at least come up with a reason why I'm about to be excecuted at the beginning...

I just depends on how much you enjoy narrative creativity. Some like these games because its a type of interactive story creating. Others just like a medevial/fantasy shooter game, go out and see how many things you can kill. Others play mostly because they like exploring a beautiful and interesting world. Others who enjoy a different sort of creativity spend more time modding than playing. Many reasons to enjoy Elder Scroll games.

I WOULD plan my character out but im so indecisive about what i want to play, so im just going to wing it and let my play style govern itself.
