The point of invisibility spell?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:50 pm

I dont get it. I cast this one myself. I sneak around but im still getting deteced (by blind snow elves no less!). I have a decent sneak skill with perks and what not. Is this another useless thing in this game (like the wax key)? Youd think invisibilty would make you invisible. But I guess thats just me.

Somebody with better understanding of the subject could answer you better, but why are you making yourself invisible to hide from blind Falmer? Surely making yourself quieter would be better since that (and possibly smell) is how they detect you, not vision.

I don't think you can make any noise or bring attention to yourself or else you're enemies will detect you.

if you are only invisible, they can't see you, but they can hear you. they hear your armor and your steps.

If there was spellmaking you could combine invis and muffle. :)

Of course Invisibility won't make you invisible. That would be way too useful! We can't have magic be powerful now, can we?

I fully support the nerfing of the invisibility spell. I mean, who wants to be totally invisible anyways? Certainly not people that cast it.

Sure, it was useful, fun, and logical before, but now we have (far superior) balance! :vaultboy:

Balance.

MAybe I should have stuck to alchemy. The potions seem to me more effective than the spell

Because every other sense that the Falmer have is enhanced due to the lack of sight.

That said, do your character ever shower?

I dont think smell is a factor in this game when it comes to sneak. I thought it was line of sight and the amount of light on your character

But Falmer can't see you when you are visible. Potions or not, invisibility is pointless when used with them. Lines of sight is so very well modelled in this game, sticking a bucket on somebodies head will prevent them from seeing you. Falmer can't see at all without a bucket.

Cast muffle, THEN invisible. One RPG element not exclusive to Skyrim that has ALWAYS annoyed me is the crippling of invisibility by action (any other then movement) removing its effect. WHY? Because that's how it's always been? So what? Another thing... if you've just killed someone, even if no one sees, folks can still see you when you're invisible, even if you're in the dark and motionless, as long as they happen upon you, they'll see you.

You still have to sneak. If you've ever run into an enemy npc who goes invisable you can still track them while they are running. And falmer are blind, so your just wasting mana.

Alchemy is absolutely amazing. It's probably the reason why they cut spellmaking because you can craft your own potions with magical attributes.

no. your armor and footsteps make noise. you can hear heavy armor a mile away and light armor needs the -50% armor noise perk to give you the chance to really sneak up to a falmer without problem.

cloth makes you basically invisible. without the spell.

you have to combine muffle and invisibility + you obviously need silent casting

This goes along with the complete obliteration of useful spells and magic and what it used to be.

Now you need muffle along with invisibility and you might want to sneak to. Look at all these steps you have to do for invisibility to be useful and how arcane masters can barely manipulate any form of power now.

Follow the three above steps use invisibility to sneak away from foes or sneak attack them.

The current invisibility is better than broken chameleon was. I think it adds to your stealth a lot but you still have to have muffle to remain undected.

another factor is that if you keep a spell active while invisible they'll see the spell so you can't cast spells when invisible.

I remeber I had these magical boots that supposedly muffled my steps

magical muffle boots + invisibility = still get detected every time

Needless to say, I gave up on invisibility, and sneak for that matter

It also takes sound from movement and weight of armor into consideration. This is why running and heavy armor are almost useless for sneaky characters.

chameleon wasn't broken because you had forgo an other enchantment just to obtain 100% Plus, it was optional to use it. The game NEVER forced you to abuse it.

wrong, with silent casting you can sneak in front of bandits with 2 conjured swords without getting detected.

That is part of it. The other part is Sound. If they hear you, they can detect you.

Invisibility only adds to Stealth, it does not replace it. And, it only stops them from seeing you if you are not doing anything. Perform an action and the effect is removed. It is almost like it is to be used to stop someone from walking by seeing you while you are waiting for them to walk by.

It should work if you are moving around while Sneaking, but it does not seem to, at least the one time I tried it during a quest. However, my Sneak was not very good, but that is why I cast the spell.

While the Spell Cast is silent, the Spell Effect is not. I don't know if Bound Swords make a sound when they appear, but the enemy hears the explosion if you cast a Fireball spell, just not the casting of the spell.

i have no idea about fireballs or so, because they get 0 sneak bonus, so i am sure that they are not affected by sneaking at all anyways.

however... i have a sneaking archer that uses conjured bows. i don't even have the silent casting perk yet. they can hear me conjure it, but can't see the bow.
