I suppose it is to keep you from having to pick some locks. Never really spent anything in the lock picking tree though.

Much like the perks that improve persuasion and intimidation ... which require a Speech skill that can already beat any persuasion or intimidation check.

Store and home owners will lock their door again and that way you'll never need to pick the lock again, it's a useless perk though

That's actually not true, I have a character with 89 Speech and there are still some Intimidation checks he can't pass as he doesn't have those perks yet. Persuasion, yeah, those always succeed for him at this point, however that's the easiest of the three to pick up and at the point when you first can you'll still get use out of it.

That said, they can definitely be delayed or even skipped unless it's important that your character fill out the tree quickly.

Every Lockpocking perk is useless, you can pick any lock without it if you learn how to play the minigame. It was the same for Oblivion too.

I assume that the name refers to using a mold, not to the key itself being made out of wax.

Wax key means an imprint of the key is made in wax, from which you can then make real keys from metal. That's my interpretation anyway.

Yep, only way the lock picking tree would have been worth spending points on would have been if picks were hard to come by, but when one can buy 40 at a time ever 48 in game hours dirt cheap that kinda deafted the purpose.

everything in Lockpicking and Speechcraft trees are useless, FYI

Merchant and Investor are a must for me in the Speechcraft tree.
With Merchant, I can sell anything to any merchant, without having to run from store to store to sell specific loot to specific vendors.
Plus, at higher levels you will craft expensive potions and loot expensive items, yet the merchants don't have enough money to buy the stuff. Furthermore, if you invest in the Riverwood trader, he will have 10000 gold every 24 hours. So yea, not useless at all LOL

Lockpicking, I agree, pretty useless though.

What Agrona said though i wont perk Merchant until im happy all my other tree's wont advance my character much further.

Lock Picking is mainly a leasure thing if you have spare points the wax key / golden touch / treasure finding etc could be quite luxourious to have

I would argue that it may still be useless as I have never used a Speechcraft perk and I have never felt like I needed gold, as there is so many ways to make money in this game. It may help you get the gold quicker by selling a bunch of loot to one vender, but being poor just doesn't happen in this game so the perks are not very useful IMO. There are better places to spend a perk.

if you have regular haunts for thieving it keeps you from having to pick locks in Markarth and some of the spots in Riften and Morthal and Solitude that have only front entrances... otherwise its... well... a perk.

its worth it if you are rping a thief but it will stop you lockpicking and finishing your level up. so shrugg. if lp was realtime it qould be useful as it would stop you getting court so much. i can wait to mod out speech and lock pick. There is no need for any of those perks really. h2h and athletics here we come.

The Merchant perk is more of a convenience for me and my high level character has so much gold, I got the Investor perk so she can spent some of it on the vendors. lol Yea, I mean you are right, gold is easy to come by in this game. I just use the Riverwood trader to dump high level items that nobody can buy otherwise, or sell off a bunch of junk to make room. I stopped looting a lot of items that are useless or below a certain value.

At least now I only have to head to one merchant to get rid of stuff lol

Deft hands is useful. You can lockpick any door in front of guards without them noticing.

Right, but money is kind of pointless after the early game as well. I stopped picking up loot when I got more than 50k gold. No point.

I have to agree, I have roughly 1.5M in gems retail value sitting in my safe in Proudspire Manor as its just to much of a pain to sell them with all but one of my guild fences bugged right now. It would take me days of playing to sell them so now I only pick up stuff that I will use to decorate my house's with.
