The Story Actually Being Extended

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:33 pm

Bethesda announced that they were not going to extend the game past the ending(like Broken Steel). However, is this really true?I clearly remember the ending cutscene that "the story of the Courier has come to a close.........for now".In a way this relates to Ulysses because if the dlc involving him is revealing more about the Couriers past it doesn't really make sense to make it available smack dab in the middle of the game. Also, i recall Yes Man stating that "he was adding systems to make himself more agressive(okay so maybe not exactly like that but along those lines) so that he can say no(if you chose to make New Vegas yours). This has me wondering. Are the makers of New Vegas telling the truth or is something else going on?

Agreed, honestly there are some crazy claims on forums. Don't take it personally, but I didn't hear this :/

On 2:30 Yes Man says he is going to reprogram his personality to be more "assertive". Doesn't directly mean "more agressive", but it is remarkable they have decided to put in this line. At 7:20 the narrator says "So the Courier's road came to an end, for now."

Anyway, I don't believe they will be extending the story because they have pretty much said they wouldn't. I think these lines are just meant for players to be able to imagine the Courier's life and the Mojave after the war at the dam.

I think you are correct. I see it as not only that, but the not-so-subtle hint that Fallout (and you, the player) will be back. Roll on FO4.

If they do extend the game then I hope that it's with Ulysses, after the final fight we get a new intro for the new area and story for Ulysses and then start the final part of New Vegas storyline, we cannot return to the main game area though.
That's the only acceptable continuation DLC for me.

Getting shoehorned into a tiny DLC area that you're then stuck in?

Eeeeeeewwwww! No thanks. Not being able to revisit Sierra Madre is bad enough.

Then what are you suppose to do after it? Go back to Mojave Wasteland where nothing has changed?
If this DLC takes place "after" the final quest then it can't let us roam around the mojave after we're done with it.
It would require an expansion to fit everything in the ending sliders in with the game.
Besides, you could always keep your save before Hoover Dam battle and then reload to it once you've completed the DLC.
All new weapons and items will be added to the main game's merchants though.

Best to keep the hard ending.

I agree, just saying that if it takes place after the final quest in order to tie up some loose ends for The Courier then I think it would be best for it to be a new area that finishes the same way and closes it's own arc.

I believe is only something Obsidian lay down in case they are doing future West/mid-West Fallout.

I can hear the complaints now! We got so many people complaining about the game having a hard ending already, I can just imagine what it would be like if one DLC ended that way too.

Unless maybe it was the last DLC. Maybe.

The hard ending has to stay. The reason it worked for Fallout 3 was you had little influence over the fate of the Capital Wasteland.
Spoiler
No matter what happened, the BoS would defeat the Enclave. The only real influence you had is if you inserted the modified FEV Virus, which made little difference in the end.

However in the Mojave Wasteland you had a direction choice of which faction would rule New Vegas.

Think about if you help the Legion
Spoiler
The NCR leaves, obviously.
The Followers of the Apocalypse leave.
The Brotherhood are destroyed.
Caesar could be dead.
And most of the cities are evacuated.

There would have to be separate and unique quests from each possible ending. And the Mojave would be physically changed too, adding even more of a change to the game. I doubt it will ever be done just due to the vast scale required for the DLC to make sense.

Yup, would have to be the final DLC that wraps up New Vegas.
And hell, before starting this DLC there could be another pop-up explaining things to the players.

Take a little break and play the originals :fallout:

There will be no DLC to continue like Broken Steel. It will destroy the game.

You know, Styles, maybe we're underestimating the developers. I sincerely doubt there will be a continuation, but if anyone could make it work, Obsidian could. It would have to be an extensive piece of work, but who knows? Did you see that clip of Col. Moore? That was definitely post-main quest. Or a hoax.

I actually wouldn't mind some random bounty quests introduced in the last DLC. Just to add a bit of fun. You're at end game, and by that time we'll have seen everything 3x. A bit of interest just to switch the game on for an hour and play with a tiny bit of purpose.

No, but he does have the power of deduction and has deduced, like a lot of us have, that there are far too many things to tie up to make a Broken Steel-style DLC.

Ever watch the show "Psych"? It's like that. Astuteness can be mistaken for clairvoyance by those who lack it.
