The Strongest Military Power of New Vegas

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 9:38 am

The BoS IS a full force, if you ally them with NCR, Paladins [censored] every single Legionary in the Dam Power Plants. You know their bunker is hundreds of meters deep right? Its supposedly big enough to sustain an army, so I'd say they match the Khans in terms of size at the very least. They are the best equipped and the best trained military force in the Mojave.

The BoS was outnumbered 20 to 1 at Helios One, and that was their full force. Plus there are 5 times as many NCR soldiers in the Mojave now as there were when they took Helios One, and half of the Mojave BOS chapter was wiped out in that battle.

So doing the math, the Mojave BoS is outnumbered at least 200 to 1 by the NCR now.

They aren't that large.

But the Khans are on this list, and they're worse off than the BoS is, so they should be an option.

I vote NCR. They have (probably) the greatest numbers, and much better tech and a better attitude to warfare than the antiquated Legion. The Legion have ruthlessness, fear and absolute loyalty on their side, but I'd take the guns of the NCR any day. House's robots are powerful, but they don't have serious numbers outside of the Mojave, which the other factions do.

I voted Caesar's legion because the NCR is spread out too thin in a slew of under-defended locations. Their morale is also terrible.

The Khans? They're pathetic. Not worth a vote.

Minor spoilers on this below:

Spoiler
Also, before the courier influences anything, the Khans are fighting with Caesar. No one else is fighting with the NCR without the courier's influence.

The Khans ... gah ... the Khans are supposedly this clan of "great warriors" who prize strength above anything. They raid and burn their way across the wastes. Then the courier finds them ... they're crying about losing some of their families to the NCR, like it's some horrible injustice that the same thing they visit upon so many others was visited upon them in return, even if accidentally. They moan about how they have to live in the canyon in exile or something ... when it could have easily been that the NCR decided to finish the job and wipe them all out, but that doesn't stop these great warriors from crying about their horribly unfair lot in life, like they had nothing to do with getting themselves there.

All I kept thinking when dealing with the Great Khans throughout the game was "BOO-HOOO". Lotta crying and wimpering about their plight. They were not portrayed as strong at all in my opinion, but rather pathetic, as I mentioned above.

I don't know, I'd have to say Securitrons come out on top, with NCR coming out on a close second place.

I mean, a Securitron is about as powerful as 3-4 NCR Troopers

At least before the upgrade, House acknowledges that the NCR could defeat him. But it would leave them completely vulnerable to the Legion. After the upgrade, there's no telling anymore.

Or do I have that backwards? Did House say that he could defeat the NCR, but that would leave him vulnerable?

Actually, you have a point, I've not done the upgrade quest in a while, so Im used to them being the trooper faced ones

An IIRC, Mr. House says it would be bad for twofold reasons, a. The war would be costly, as the Three Families and his Securitrons would win, but heavy costs. and B. The NCR would likely lick their wounds, place an embargo on the New Vegas Strip, and come back to try again later.

It's the same with the BoS, his reason for them is that he'd rather sidestep a war with them if possible. I read there was at one time an option to convince Mr. House to coexist with the BoS, but it was apparently removed during development.

considering a supply of Pulse grenades and pulse mines could really screw up the Securitron force, I go with NCR. Elite rangers and just rangers in General are a lethal force, the troopers are in such great mass it's almost unbelievable, and they have troopers with faux power armor. Plus they have Moore calling shots, and she is a badass anyway you look at it. I've yet to see a trooper or ranger that is poorly armed either.

SPOILER

I voted Securitrons, but that is assuming the ones below the fort are activated, and they are all upgraded. A force like that even sends the NCR back home with their tail between their legs.

But yeah, at the start of the game? It definitely seems like the Legion will eventually win if the Courier does nothing. NCR seems demoralized and not really into it as much as the Legion is.

Factor in that, if the Courier does not help the NCR, Kimball will be assassinated and it's an instant K.O. and Legion as a winner.

I know I was really unimpressed that the NCR couldn't take back Primm from 12 Powder Gangers and they all seem to quake in fear of the Legion, so yeah.

NCR is an occupying force, spread thin over a huge area. The Mojave might be the hottest of their war fronts, but it's far from their only one.

The full weight of the entire NCR military would be overwhelmingly powerful.

Yes, But the Caesars legion is bigger then the NCR.

By alot.

No it isn't.

Caesar's Legion is all of Arizona, New Mexico, and part of Utah.

The NCR Stretches from above San Fransisco down into the Baja Peninsula

Half of NCR is in Nevada.

None of the above.

The greatest fighting force is a single delivery boy, who in his quest to recover the stolen package and complete his delivery managed to leave a bloody swath of destruction though all of those groups.

The strongest military power is whoever can sway the courier to help them. Hell, an epileptic male stripper with Tourette's syndrome and a penchant for eating tennis balls could win with the courier fighting on his side.

If the NCR could stop shaking in fear of the Legion, getting their behinds kicked by the Legion and stop moaning about lack of supplies or reinforcements they might get my vote. The game makes it pretty clear that the NCR is in no position to fight and win against the Legion unless the courier does something to even the odds.

NCR already had a population of 700,000 in FO2, 40 years before NV. They also had access to a lot of advanced technology back in FO2. Caravan guards had combat armor and wielded impressive weaponry like automatic shotguns and flamers. They're even more technologically advanced now through trade with Vault City and San Francisco and from all the Brotherhood and Enclave tech they captured. They just haven't sent their best troops to the Mojave yet.

Obsidian really crippled Caesar's Legion in NV. They were a lot more powerful in Van Buren. They had a caste of priestesses that specialized in spreading propaganda, they controlled most of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah, they were more civilized, and they had these: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20050224150757/fallout/images/a/a1/Legion.jpg
