The weirdest story you will probably ever hear, here.

I can see your reasoning, but I do find I disagree.
Because: If you became as powerful as them, where would the challenge be? They should be more powerful than you - because that's the way it should work.

I would say that the last bit is wrong, if I can come across as not being too blunt or rude, because I don't mean to sound like that at all. I think what you've said is how it should work on the hardest difficult settings, not on all difficulties. Difficulty settings are there for that reason, to change how powerful the enemies are (among other things). But a theme of the Elder Scrolls games is that your character can become truly powerful. (Something that is not true if the enemies are your equal throughout the game).

When playing on 'normal' difficulty, I want to be able to defeat anything if I am of a high enough level, 50+. Say, If I'm a pure mage. I am a master of all the schools of magic, according to the lore, that would make me one of the most powerful mages in Tamriel. This is how I like my RPG's :) But say other people don't want that. Say they want the game to be a challenge throughout. That is where the difficulty settings come in, to make the enemies equal to the player throughout the game. I'm not saying I want to one shot these high level enemies, just that I want to know I don't have to run around like a headless chicken waiting for my Magicka to regen...

My level 81 assassin/thief just now did that quest early this morning. I was 1 or 2 shotting every enemy... and when I got to Morokei, I 1-shot both of his shield-charger buddies while sneaking, then shot the priest himself once, which paralyzed him, and then the 2nd shot killed him. The subsequent challenge with the Staff of Magnus was far harder to get through than fighting that dragon priest. His stealing of my Magicka was laughable at best.

Of course, my story differs greatly from yours in terms of character level and the fact that I wasn't using magic, but an enchanted Daedric bow in conjunction with a 100-level Archery skill.

I've never had a skill reach 100 yet but it might happen with my current character just so I can see what it's like. I tend to like the building of the character and the lower levels the most but I might enjoy the later part of Skyrim because you get some pretty cool shouts and calls in the later game like Call Dragon. That could be a lot of fun. I always find that battle with Morokei to be a challenge and that's what makes it so memorable. :) :tes:

Of course - I did not at all intend to diminish your story. I just thought it was a fun coincidence that you posted your story so soon after I had completed that very same quest. Also, my posting was intended to show what happens when the College storyline is completed using someone who is already level 81 and the head of the (new) Dark Brotherhood. Morokei stealing Magicka and taunting you is like... "Well, okay, man... have all that Magicka, but I'm still going to defeat your little situation in 4 bow plucks that you won't even know are coming." :)

I didn't take it that way. That was the difference in our stories,...our levels. I wasn't sure at all Kiir Srinna (I), could do it and you absolutely knew. I wonder if there's any difference at all in Morokei's strength when we each fought him or does he stay true to his own level in his "Encounter Zone?" I tend to go after great rewards at early levels, at least in this game, just to see if I can and the battles are really something. Tonight it was Potema and I didn't count how many times I died (a really lot) but her remains are now sanctified. whew. I think a nice home in Solitude with a WabbaJack on the wall sounds nice, don't you? And a vacation to slow things down. Now all I need is the home and the WabbaJack. :tes:

I honestly have no idea. I'm sure there's a level cap somewhere in there. He still apparently takes ALL of your Magicka, regardless of how much you have.

Wow - that IS a tough quest to get done - and you did that at level 20-something? Kudos! I recall that one being tough at 50-something.

I'm all for the vacation home and the Wabbajack... but you know an adventurer can never stay sated too long. Soon, the feet get itchy...

I can tell you that I did a LOT of running. :D Also, my Destruction skill had leveled to 50 but I didn't have the Adept perk yet so that was like having your hand tied behind your back. I tried using staves because of that but they would then Disarm me so I had to go back to spells. Then, sometimes Lydia died and I'd reload. I'd heal her more so she could fight because she's my weapon too, right?...my sword and my shield. So that finally did work but it was a great and tough battle. Take that, Potema. It's funny how they taunt us. Talking with Sheogorath was like a vacation after all that but you're right...I'll get the itch. There's plenty of dragon priests and dragons to come. Now I just need more loot to sell so I can get the second home. :tes:

So you understand my insanity. In Fallout 3, I made mods to make the travelling merchants unkillable. I guess I care too much about spending so many hours in a game where people can die forever.

Don't read or watch Game of Thrones. You will not be happy.
