There needs to be a realismhardcoe mode

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:33 pm

So is everyone else aware of all the food, drinks, and beds that we havent even bothered to use since we started playing the game? I know that alot of people think that getting hungry, thirsty, or sleepy is pretty [censored] and annoying and that its real easy to replenish these basic needs but it has to be there! Only as an optional choice of course but it bugs me so much that I see all these barrels filled with food, all the food/drink shops all over the game, all the inns that have no purpose other than decorating the landmass with something more than natural foliage. There needs to be a hardcoe mode or realism mode, whatever people want to call it. I would love to have to deal with the cold weather and keeping my character from getting hyperthermia. Having limited gear (basically the stuff you can carry on u realisticly like you cant carry 200 potions on you its just not possible), having all diseases kill you if you dont treat them in time, having to prepare myself by buying food and drinks before I head out onto the road, no fast travel, maybe introducing limb damage? Who knows but still hunger, thirst and sleep need to be there as optional just to add alot more fun and realism into the game.

I understand that people like to "imagine" these effects but actually feeling the effects is alot more real than imagining it.

Who agrees that this option should be in the game?

The food and sleep bit can be done without mods, just takes a bit of discipline - so too hypothermia - but if you're on pc, you can actually experiment with the host of mods offering that sort of immersion. I haven't downloaded them, but I stick to a rigid routine of stopping to heat myself up with my own campfire, avoid swimming, and regularly sleep and preparing food (buying/hunting) then eating and drinking. Try and do that if you're on console! :)

The eating, drinking, and sleeping should just be a small part of it.

I would have these features as well.....

2) No fast travel.
3) No level scaling.
4) Can only drink two potions an hour. (In-game hours)
5) Health does not regenerate during combat.
6) NPCs are racist and will not serve your character or even allow you into cities based on your race. Also, if your character worships Daedra, have people react accordingly.
7) A player can only master four or five skills.
8) Diseases can't be cured at a shrine.
9) The more tired your character is, the weaker he is. Same goes for hunger and thirst, but not as bad.
10) Have more dangerous creatures (Vampires, Werewolves, ect.) roam at night.
11) Swimming in freezing water should hurt you.
12) Dead is Dead. (This one would be optional)

Anything else that will enhance roleplaying!

I actually eat and drink regularly and sleep. Purely for immersion.

Also I'm a Nord, we don't feel the cold. We used to hunt Ice Wraiths naked as a rite of passage.

The last two I'm in full agreement with.

Would that me more entertaining if you "had" to do all that stuff? Like if u don't eat u die of hunger? If you dont make camp u die from the cold? I don't have any incentive to do all those things. Its just pointless which is why there needs to be an incentive for that for us "console" gamers.

Same here, and if I plan to stay the night in a city I rent a room in the inn. I've also heard of people, as Khajiit, not entering the cities that you must zone into.

food is helpful. things like vegetable soup for endless powerattacks or the very strong elsweyr fondue

sleeping gives you bonuses + i hate playing at night.

i already use all the features. i just don't drink anything.

No not at all. It would just irritate me, for example it took me several in-game days to fully explore Alftand and Blackreach.. If I had to keep resurfacing every now and then for food when I was on a long dungeon trek which I'd forgotten to bring supplies on, it would just become tedious.

I prefer to have my celebratory cooked beef and wine after I've cleared a dungeon.

Yeah I always pay for a room unless I have a house in the city. Which I do in all the major one's.

If I'm making a long journey on foot I'll usually sleep until 6am if it's late evening or night. Adds a sense of realism, up early for an adventure, snack on some cooked beef and wine for energy and to boost the spirits.

I certainly can see a purpose for such a mode, but really you could do it yourself! It takes weeks for someone to starve, and a good period of time to die from thirst, so you judge it from the game time - the cold is a lot more tricky mind... especially if you are on console as you can't make use of the camping mods to help with the immersion of combating hypothermia... I just can't see why you couldn't do this yourself with a bit of imagination and discipline, give it a go fella!

Alot of people not just me dont sleep, eat, or drink on there characters without reason. I can run around the game without worrying about getting hungry, thirsty, or sleepy so why would I want to do that? Its a waste of time without incentive, I'd rather be chilling out in a dungeon and killing something than "pretending". Having reason to do stuff like this makes it ALOT more fun to me than just pretending to do it.

I too would love a "hardcoe" option in Skryim. It would add a sense of urgency to higher difficulty exploring. Being forced to hunt for survival would be so much fun if it was done well.

If I'm sleeping on a bed roll or anything of that nature I capture from Bandits, I always cast a lightning rune so they can't sneak up on me.

I agree, a hardcoe mode would be perfect because when you just have discipline alone to go on I find it's difficult to remember or bother. Maybe an icon at the bottom of the screen would give me that little extra push that I need to play realistically ....................................…….......................................

Well as realistic as you can get in a game with dragons, vampires, werewolves, magic, walking undead, enchanted and ancient swear-words from eons ago, etc...

Picture your character really hungry and you need some food like right now! You see a tasty looking deer and and you realize now you have to chase that deer to keep you going for a good-while. Just make sure you have a camp-fire nearby! :)

I can already do that though through choice rather than being forced to.. It's much more satisfying.

I have camp site mods that I sometimes use, I dont fast travel....a lot. I like being able to play the way I feel like at the time, and I dont always feel like playing the same way.
You can play by 'house rules' and have a lot of fun playing the way your mood is at the time.

Fair enough, I still think there's better things the devs could be spending their time on though.

Not at all, I think you're missing the purpose of adding something like that in the first place - for immersion, if you can do it without it, I don't see how that's any less fun.

i agree 100% i made a thread about this yesterday in asking what types of things people would like to see in a hardcoe mod. I cant believe the devs haven't done it, but i doubt they will, because it is such a simple thing to do to create so much more immersion in this game. All the ground work is already established. If they did make such a mode it sure would be a treat for us hardcoe followers. Besides, i'm sure "the masses" that have bought the game have already traded this game in for the next best thing. However, those of us that will play a signal EOS game for years and years would sure like it, you know the loyal fan base.

There is a mod on Nexus to force eating, drinking and sleeping. but if you really want a realistic mode, play it on hardest difficulty and then play "dead is dead" where you stop playing your character after he dies the first time. Good luck getting past level 10.
