Is there a 'shiver' experience for you?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:34 am

So like the title states, is there any gun that when you fire just sends a shiver down your spine when you use it?

For me, it has to be the Sniper Rifle, the kick of it, the sound of it, supressor or no, it's all beautiful for me. Especially when you snipe from far away, and you hear that 'doom' sound when you get experience points. :blush2:

Anti-Material Rifle. My first time firing it it THREW the guy... I threw my controller because I had to sit there helplessly crapping myself for a good ten minutes. When I finally got back to playing, I shot another guy who was wearing armor. He didnt die from the shot, but he flew... FLEW 50 feet in the air and died upon landing.

Needless to say, we had to call a sanitation specialist to clean my room.

Dynamite sticks. It was really satisfying popping bark scorpions with them early in the game.

Believe it or not, my "Oh YES!" moment was with a night-scoped-Varmint Rifle. It just felt...right. The gun is tactically small enough to be handy in stealthy situations, long-raged enough to pull off a headshot (though, I do have an auto-aim disabler), and shoots a moderately common round. Perfect for my use, as a "Burglar". (Kind of like prospecting without killing anybody, if I can help it.)

The other "Oh YES!" I had was when I got my hands on a cowboy repeater. Not quite as good as the scoped Varmint Rifle, but it's the next best thing.

The very first experience like that was when I picked up the Ratslayer, my very first scoped weapon in NV (before that I was trying to snipe with a non-scoped Varmint Rifle which was not bad all other things considering).

Ironsights are cool, but nothing beats a scope for long range death. Cant wait to get my hands on the Sniper Rifle and the AMR...

Even though it's useless, Mercenary's Grenade Rifle.
I just love me some boom boom.

The sniper rifle for me also. I've always been a stay back and pick them off kind of guy and hearing just the one shot from that gun is music to my ears.

Alien Blaster with with the Meltdown perk. Loved to catch a group of anything bunched together. Too bad there's so little ammo for it. :(

I love a plain old cowboy repeater. The noise it makes is just satisfying and I love how the iron sights cover like the entire screen except the little tiny spot you're aiming at.

Actually, nothing has really made me "shiver" but, I'm trying to get my loadout down to close to what you would realistically carry, so I've been trying to decide on what I like best. My loadout before cutting it down was basically: Marksman Carbine, Lever Action Shotgun, 10mm SMG a few grenades and a Sniper Rifle. At one time I even had the 40mm Grenade Launcher in there too, but it just seemed like too many weapons to carry to be even remotely realistic.

So now I'm down to the Marksman Carbine (or All American in later levels), Lever Action Shotgun & 10mm SMG. If I know I'm really going to need to do some high damage longer range sniping, I'll switch out the Marksman for a Sniper rifle. But the Marksman is actually a decent sniping weapon on it's own. So since I found it, it's been my primary weapon.

Tough choice. It would probably be either the Sniper Rifle or the Displacement Glove.

Sniper Rifle: I like to stick a silencer on it and just sneak headshot people. Especially fun in places like Helios One. Sniping people with their friends right next to them, with no reputation loss because their friends didn't see me. I sometimes kill people on my own side when I do a mission for them and I don't feel the reward is adequate.

Displacement Glove: Woh nelly. It's an unarmed weapon (+) with high damage (++) that kills people by, from what I can tell, opening a portal around the victim, slicing off any limbs in it's way. (+++++++)

The Ratslayer is my favorite. My first character was still getting a lot of use out of it a level 30. Yeah, its one of the least powerful scoped rifles and its bolt action. But it can still take down most of what you'll run in to out in the wasteland with one well aimed shot. Anything you can't kill with it you can just go around. Unless you need to kill it. Then you come back with that gosh awful big red "I WIN!" button the AMR. I like the way the Ratslayer sounds. I like the way it shoots. And most of all I like the way it looks. It is a kind of sinister looking thing. The kill marks on the stock are pretty cool. I like its shape better the the Gobi and the Sniper rifle. It doesn't look rickety like the varmint and hunting rifles do and it ain't fugly like the AMR.

Though the other rifles may be more powerful, have higher rates of fire and larger ammo capacity. The Ratslayer has light weight, low skill requirements, high crit chance and accuracy that is second to none. Combine it with Boone's hat, the right perks and it becomes a real killer of all but the biggest most heavily armored game. Plus it uses pretty common ammo and it easy to maintain.

I get a kick out of taking really long shots with it ( as long as possible in this game ) and seeing my target's bodies drop like rock while their heads go spinning off in to space.

From the first moment I used it. The Ratslayer felt "right" to me.

That Gun gives me the 'shiver', since I first found it. I love the futuristic revolver feel of it (stemming from Blade Runner).

Lucky did cause a trooper's head to shoot 16 feet straight up in the air, and his body to shoot about 30 feet in the air, but that was probably a glitch. It's a great gun, just doesn't feel as shivery as That Gun.

Super Sledge on maxed out melee.

It's a one hit kill on almost any NPC.

I love walking into about 4-5 fiends and just going beserk.

Oh yea, and it's even better with bloody mess perk.
