they learned how to open doors!

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:25 pm

So I just snuck my way carefully around a deathclaw nest, went into a safe shack (harper's) to sleep.

Wake up to a deathclaw standing over me looking rather irritated at me. Apparently I am a VERY heavy sleeper.

Is that a bug? do all enemies ignore "does not open doors" flag now?

Also, what's the best way for a level 5 character to fight a deathclaw in a room so small both of you barely fit?

Not sure on this but several types of animals seem to open doors after I close them. Drives me nuts but there's not much I can do being on console and all.

Apparently, enough to go to bed with a deathclaw

I just confirmed in the GECK that these are all flagged "do not open doors" and are simply ignoring the flag.

The best way? Probably strafing circles around it whilst shooting. It will still kill you, but that's the best way to fight it lol.

no this is not a glitch, they intended that for ever time you sleep, if something was following you it would appear next to you

The best way for a level 5 player to take on a full grown deathclaw 1 on 1 in a room so small you both barely fit...

Draw your highest DPS weapon, and then shoot/swing like a maniac. You will still lose (unless its a very powerful weapon because the deathclaw will one shot kill you), but at least you put up a decent fight.

Deathclaws are clever critters. They make the raptors in Jurasic park look like dunces.

Turns out if you bean it in the head with as much dynamite as you can throw, you can knock it over long enough to sprint out the door and run all the way to camp McCarran without looking over your shoulder once.

Deathclaw followed me in to the same shack. They can open doors, as can most of the critters in NV. Just look in to GECK if you are not sure. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1140580-victor-got-visitor/.
Best think to do in your situation is to use one of your stealthboys and RUN!

Try to run as much as you can to the door, and pass. IF the Deathclaw opened the door and followed you still, then get back and repeat until he will be pissed and will decide to leave.

If killing and eating the player is so certain (and at level 5... yeah that sounds pretty right) then maybe instead of trying to sneak-plant explosives on HIM you should just hold onto them yourself. You'll still die but you'll give him one hell of a case of indigestion. You can be proud to know that even in death you were able to cause a giant mutated murder machine mild discomfort.

If you have a stealthboy now would be the time to use it.

I freaked the first time I woke up to find Mr Crowly in my room in FO3 duno what I would do if I found a deathclaw standing there!

Note to self - ensure 12g shotguns are hotkey'd before sleeping.

Interesting. 120 hrs into the game I have (thankfully) not encountered this particular situation. It would fit in with Fallout lore however, as Deathclaws are supposed to be highly intelligent. That being said, I cannot think of anything more terrifying than to wake up with a Deathclaw standing over me.. :o

I survived a Deathclaw attack at level 2. I just kept running, and he gave up, once he'd taken half my health.

Lulz @ the Jurassic Park reference. My 3 year old twins love that movie, watched on the way to daycare this morning.
