ThiefMageWarrior Only

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:16 am

Has anybody tried going Thief, Mage, or warrior only? What i mean by that is only leveling and putting perks into what your stone increases.

For example, I wanted to try out Thief only skills (Sneak, Pickpocket, Alchemy, Light Armor, Speech and Lock Picking).

Seems like it would be a lot of fun and more challenging.

Has anybody tried this out? And with Mages and Warriors as well?

What is a "stone"?

I have a thief with all of that
-Light Armor and Alchemy
+One-Handed

Fun, but still low level

You wouldn't be able to attack a single thing o.o

If you stayed stead fast to not leveling anything outside of what your Stone boosts.

I made a thief and nly put a few perks in pickpocketing and lockpicking (only for treasure hunter perk and better prices for loot) and then only took assassins blade in sneak. He is fun to play and works very well as the lack of perks keep a degree of difficulty throughout. Perks are a quality of life increase, they are not needed to achieve anything in this game.

A pure thief does not get into battles, but sneaks or runs by them. That is why a Pure Thief is such a challenge. Most people play a Thief who has some combat skills.

That's... kind of what I said?

Assassin's blade perk is possible to get within his rules so he can attack if he wants.

I have a thief with points only in Sneak, Lockpick, and Pickpocket.
No weapon skills, no magic, no potions, and no armor.

All the level points go into stamina....for running away.

Level 27 with about 70 hours played and zero kills.

Because she doesn't kill there is some content she'll never see...but it's a fun challenge.

He can't level up One-Handed Weapons though.

interesting idea OP.

and, good find demo. though, i guess h2h would have to be used at early levels until the appropriate offensive perks would allow it.

definitely, would be tough and unique.

i think i might try it on a DID playthrough.

yes, but, once you reach the assassin perk, one can then make game rules where one-handed is a given at that point. the training is now sufficient.

My thief/assassin character has most his points put into those skills, as well as marksman. I think there are too many styles of play for someone to stay pure warrior/pure mage easily.

If you sneak attack through the first mine before riverwood, and then through bleak falls barrow you can have assassin's blade before you clear bleaks falls, you will also be around level 9 or 10 when you come out (tested myself on master).

I think once alchemy is leveled high enough tho it won't be soo bad, since you can use fortify 1h and all your other weapon skills with it.

I've always liked sneaking around and not being caught and i'm pretty good at doing it, this time around i plan not to use any weapon perks as much as possible.

However, OP said "I wanted to try out Thief only skills (Sneak, Pickpocket, Alchemy, Light Armor, Speech and Lock Picking)", taking One-Handed Weapons would break that self-imposed rule.

yes, but, assassin's blade falls under sneak.

of course, it's daggers only and not all 1-h.

i like the DiD and rp use possibility of playing as the OP suggested.

edit: i gotta keep using whatever i can to keep skyrim interesting. otherwise, it's back to the others...

Oh...and I would strongly suggest using a Khajiit.
The Nighteye ability is quite useful when you know you can't attack anyone. You want to mak sure you can SEE everyone that you need to sneak past.

Like I said...it's a unique challenge and I'm loving it.

I think you'd still be quite viable in combat without perking out the tree. If you're talking about not skilling up any combat abilities... that could be tricky. Once you level alchemy enough and get the "poisoner" perk from pick pocket that'd be the only way you'd be allowd to kill someone. Lawl.

Well, I kinda play a pretty much pure mage. No melee weapons, not even a staff. No armor. Destruction, Conjuration, Enchanting, Restoration and I guess Illusion are my "major skills". Other than those I only train Alchemy... can't really say I train Alteration at all.

Other than those, my Lockpicking is ridiculously up since this game really forces you to manually pick locks if you want to pick them at all. And this guy wants - he's also a Thieves Guild associate. But how about Alteration spell(s), anyone? Like before. Shouldn't have been too much of a problem to let them remain in the game.

And yes, I read skill books (too) so my other stats have raised a bit as well. Can't say I use them, though.

Doesn't using a dagger raise your One-Handed Weapon skill though?

darkside-

hey, i absolutely get your point. just thinking of how to use something other than claws/fists and potions, only.

though, a pure thief character using only claws/potions could definitely be an interesting roleplay.

Which is why I wish we had an actual Monk Skill tree.

Unfortunately that wouldn't fall under Thief either >>;

no kidding!

but, when i've thought about that issue: the absence of being able to play a monk pacifist, it really annoys the hell out of me. because that goes right back to a lack of development by beth.

and, the lack of choices and alternate playstyles becomes obvious.
