So, I wanted to make a thread combining the knowledge of the internet, as well as my own knowledge of Skyrim into one easy to access place. I will NOT be addressing glitching at all (such as fortify restoration/Oghma infinium etc… ) I WILL however game the system as much as possible sometimes. For example getting 3 free schools of magic for vampire/Necromage. Here’s what I have.
Spoilers are marked (I hope), but I didn't know how to do the fancy tags. Enjoy
1) Stamina regenerates whenever you are not doing something that uses stamina. You regenerate 5.00% of your maximum Stamina per second outside of combat (rounded down, Skyrim ALWAYS rounds down) and 1.75% inside combat.
2) Hold R3 (ps3 zoom button) and use the left stick to zoom in and out.
3) Hold down or up on both the D-pad and the stick to fast scroll through menus.
4) You can attack butterflies (and torchbugs and luna moths etc.). They turn into wings or a thorax when they die.
5) Save. Punch a merchant. Reload. Their inventory (including cash) is reset now.
6) Daggers are not affected by fortify one-handed enchantments.
7) They ARE affected by fortify marksman potions.
8) When the player becomes a vampire, he is flagged as undead by the game. The necromage perk in the Restoration tree makes all spells 25% more effective against them. That includes your character. So all blessings, spells, potions and powers work 25% better and last 50% longer. This also applies to bad effects (like the fire weakness you get).
This also allows you to take the alchemy-enchanting loop even further, allowing you to make enchants that reduce spell cost by 33% at best (without the restoration potion glitch).
Next we apply the bonus from necromage:
33 * 1.25 = 41.25 = 41 (Skyrim rounds down)
With Archmage robes: (2* 41)= 82 + 18 (vamp/necro bonus) = 100% to one skill.
6 free enchanting slots, 2 enchants per school for full reduction, 3 schools at 100% reduction. –KaiserAfini
9) Followers can activate shrines. The blessings which DO NOT affect followers are: Talos, Mara, Zenithar and Dibella
10) Armor cap is 567 with full armor set (head, chest, hands, feet), there is a hidden bonus of +25 to EACH armor piece. This means in Robes (for example) the armor cap is 667. Without a helmet it is 592 etc…
11) When dual wielding, your offhand (left) weapon is the one that matters (for determining things). If it’s non-magic you CAN use elemental fury, even with a magic weapon in your right hand. If it’s a dagger, your swing speed increases.
12) The Ebony blade uses (and levels) the two handed skill. It takes perks from BOTH trees though (patch 1.5)
One-handed: Armsman, Bladesman, Fighting Stance (assumed)
Two-handed: Great Critical Charge, Devastating Blow, Sweep, Warmaster (assumed) –IlDana (and me).
13) When your follower can no longer accept gear from the trade menu, order them to pick it up. If you order them to “take all” contents of a chest, the items they pick up are flagged as stolen now, even a chest in your house filled with your stuff.
14) Dual casting spells increases effectiveness (which one (duration, damage etc…) varies depending on school) by 220% and cost by 280%
15) Outside of combat, your magicka regenerates 3% of your total per second (Skyrim always rounds down). During combat this drops to 1% total per second.
16) Cooking is overpowered. Making veggie soup, beef stew or venison stew allows you to regen 1 stamina/second. It only takes one stamina point to power attack. Elsweyr Fondue increases your magicka by 100 and regen by 25% for 720 seconds. You can use this to cast spells you wouldn’t be able to otherwise.
17) When decorating your house, drop the stuff you want to put somewhere, leave, and re-enter. This will prevent the “tornado of terror” going through and messing everything up. DO NOT put items back into your inventory, or you must do this again.
18) Don’t put the Ebony Blade on a weapons rack. You will lose it.
19) Save often, and manually. Don’t overwrite your first “prisoner” save that you get when you get off the wagon during the opening. The game will overwrite that the next time you start a character with another autosave.
20) You can keep quest items that you are “supposed” to lose, if they are weapons. Example: the rusty mace during Molag Bal’s quest. After you get it, put it on a weapon rack. Finish the quest. Return and it’s still there (and not a quest item anymore).
21)
22) Save before accepting a quest, before entering the location, and before turning it in (at least). That way if there are any problems you can reload.
23) Save. Dismiss a follower (non-essential) and then use WABBAJACK on them. When they turn into an animal, punch them then re-hire them. They are now leveled up properly. They CAN be killed by this, so make sure you save. They will return to their default armor, indicating it worked.
24) The headless horseman is NOT Ragnar the Red.
25) The wardrobes in your room at the college of Winterhold are safe storage containers. The barrels are NOT. This ‘house’ is free, and available at the start of the game.
26) Fast Traveling increases the odds of a dragon fight (and glitches, which are related to reanimating bodies).
27) If you are in a walled city (like Whiterun or Solitude) and you are attacked IN THE CITY by a dragon, and you don’t want to be, leave the city. The dragon WILL zone with you and fight you outside. This works in reverse (If you WANT to fight in a city, enter during a dragon fight).
28) You CANNOT remarry. Also, save before the ceremony. Don’t let the wife/husband leave before talking to her/him. Tell them to go to THEIR house, then meet them there. Then tell them to live wherever you want them to. This will stop the glitch with Lover’s Comfort not working.
29) Stray dogs told to wait outside dungeons disappear.
30) Don’t pick up named items (for example Joe’s T-Shirt). Also, don’t take books from “boss chests” those are ALSO quest items, and will cause quests to be unfinishable.
31) Lesser ward blocks all shouts, including dragon breath attacks, and draugr Fus Ro Dah/Disarm.
32) Using a staff does NOT level the associated skill.
33) Followers can soul trap with gems and a weapon with the soul trap or fiery soul trap enchantment.
34) Also, only these enchantments affect followers: Fortify Health
Fortify Heavy Armor
Fortify Light Armor
Fortify Magicka
Fortify Stamina
Fortify Unarmed
Muffle
Resist Fire
Resist Frost
Resist Magic
Resist Shock
Resist Poison (we added this one in).
35) Nighttime begins at 7:00 PM and ends at 5:00 AM. Relevant if you are a vampire. Also, feeding does not break invisibility, making it much easier to feed without being detected.
36) If you fill a large soul gem with a small soul (let’s say grand gem/petty soul) and you DROP it, it may clear out the soul and you can refill it. The trick also works if you store soul gems you WANT (say grand/grand). So if you clear a gem you WANT filled, just fill one more and all the others that emptied (identical ones mind you) refill also.
37) You can “attack” an ore vein with a pickaxe. Each hit mines the ore. This is MUCH faster than watching the animation. Dual-wield (dagger or another pickaxe) to be even faster.
38) Many followers can mine and chop wood, though not all will. They do NOT need pick/woodcutter’s axes to do it.
39)
40) Lesser powers (such as night—eye) can be used multiple times a day.
41) It’s a good idea NOT to ALWAYS fast travel. You miss out on SO many cool random encounters and situations you just wouldn’t see if you didn’t take a walk every now and then.
42) As a vampire, the necromage perk affects your other perks too if you pick them AFTER you get necromage. I.E. Your magic resistance and regeneration perks (for example) will be 25% stronger if you pick them AFTER you get the necromage perk. List of perks affected here: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1385179-perks-affected-by-necromage-as-a-vampire/
43) If you invest in the Riverwood Trader they get about +11,000 gold or so. Other shops (like Angeline’s Aromatics in Solitude) also receive more than the promised 500 gold, but the Trader gets the most by far.
44) When dual-wielding, if you tap both attack buttons (do not hold them or you’ll power attack) you hit with both simultaneously.
45)
46) Tapping the sprint button with a torch out allows you to continue sprinting, even when out of stamina. Console only.
47) Health regenerates 0.70% of your maximum Health each second outside of combat and 0.49% in combat. Again, these numbers are rounded down.
48) You can charge the Ebony blade to full power using only one “friend.” Use the ritual stone to raise them, and then kill them again. This counts towards the total each time.
49) Using potions with the effect ‘fortify destruction’ is the only way (outside of perks in the skill trees) to increase destruction damage. Each DIFFERENT potion stacks, so drinking a +10% and a +20% = +30% increased damage.
50) You can tell a follower to pick up a skill book. You can then take it from their inventory, and save it until your skill is higher, in order to get the maximum use.
51) Creating items (such as smithing a sword) from stolen ingredients (like iron ingots) removes the stolen tag. The new sword is NOT stolen.
52) “shield bashing” with a torch sets the target on fire. Shield bash perks don’t affect it (neither do fire… “burning” damage is a set amount).
53.) (if I may add) Take any stolen items to Dragonreach in Whiterun. Next to the arcane enchanter is the mages room. Place all stolen items in the dresser that says "search dresser" in white font. Command your follower to "take all" then trade with them and open your inventory up and all items including the "Mythic Dawn Robes" (for example) will now have the stolen tag removed. -illahstrait2
54) Hitting the jump button on a horse makes them jump. When they aren't moving they "rear up."
55) You can fast travel while overburdened on a horse.
56) If you're wearing an item that boosts magic, say the novice hood, you can take it off when you run out of magic and put it back on to quickly get that magic back (whatever the item adds) -Haggar
57) Horses can sprint. You'd be surprised who missed that one.
58) Another little trick is you can FUS pressure plate traps to activate them, or shoot them with arrows. -Haggar (and me). Works with trip wires too, if you're a REALLY good shot. I bet same with bear traps, but I haven't tested.
In the same vein, fire runes in that oil on the floor is a great way to ruin a draugr's day.
59) Also you can charge up master spells in battle while in ethereal form and take shortcuts off cliffs when ethereal with no damage or death. -Haggar (and others).
60) When enchanting, if you drink a potion of fortify enchanting, the timer stops while you are naming the item.
61) The difference between a Legendary Steel Sword and a Legendary Daedric Sword at 100 one handed and 5/5 armsman is 18 damage. That's 4 perks, for 18 damage. Don't take smithing perks for weapon damage. Also, a hunting bow out damages a Deadric bow by quite a bit, since it fires much faster. That's why Bound Bow is the best DPS bow in the game. It shoots MUCH MUCH faster (I've figured it to about 3-1 with quick shot).
62) Bow Range is affected by weight, the same as shot speed. A Daedric bow fires much straighter for much further than lighter bows.
63)
64) Your follower can steal in plain sight, as long as YOU'RE hidden.
I’d like to thank KaiserAfini for his thread 5 things you didn’t know about Skyrim. Many of these came from that thread.
Also, pms00 on youtube for making such awesome informative videos.
And finally, all the clowns in the zoom in thread who inspired me to start up this list. You know who you are.
These are all from PS3, if that makes any difference anywhere.
