I wish I knew not to watch any footage before I got to play it myself.

I know it each time for every game, and I can't contain myself. Watching some Youtube vids/Livestreams of people who have no clue is so wonderful.

I wish I knew you could eat ingredients.

I'm serious.

Also, I wish I knew that selling DP masks was a very bad idea.

That no matter what level I am, if I am using unenchanted weapons and light armor, bandits and Forsworn will pwn my sorry ass every single time I fight them.

Level 40, Axe of Whiterun with no charges left, Shrouded Armor, One-Handed 80 (with all available perks taken), Light Armor 51 (again, with the perks): three bandits killed me faster than I could swing my axe six times. How much damage did I do to one of them? You couldn't even see it on the bandit's health meter, that's how little.

So the only way around it is to cheat (on PC) or abuse crafting/enchanting systems to get ridiculous weapons and armor so I have a chance of survival in the world once I'm past level 6.

Yes, I wish I had known this when I started Skyrim. Actually, I wish I had known it before I even bought the game.

I love the slow time archery perk!

I wish I knew how important alchemy/enchanting was early in the game (altmer).

Playing on the PS3 selecting the right eye color at the char creation is a pain, causing many chars with "wrong", ugly eye colors.

I didn't know there is two stages to the shield bash, you can knock em back by blocking and hitting the action button, or you can shield bash em and make em drop their weapon by blocking and holding the action button  I also didn't know that companions would use potions if you give them to em.

the fact that Archery wasn't part of the thief guardian stone..

This.... I just found out when reading this. I guess I get to walk back to it now. I'm glad I read this topic now, just started an archer.

I play dead is dead so......

That lowering spell cost was better than increasing magic on a mage. Could have saved my first two mage characters. Both ran out of magic far to often and it caused their deaths.

That dual wielding briarhearts were FAR more fearsome than they look. RIP assassin character.

That you can not shout while in mid air, or at least it didn't work when I needed it.... tried using ethereal on my way down a very tall waterfall. RIP level 60 warrior.

That frozen water doesn't hurt you in any way. It should... really, the environment in every other TES game had dangers(lava, lava, dangerous plants, etc.).

I wish I had known that you only need dragon souls to unlock a shout you have learned. I thought that you used up a soul anytime you shouted, so I was always very sparing in my use of shouts, only used them when in dire need. Bangs head repeatedly on desktop.

I wish I knew I could set live enemies on fire with a torch before I played the game. Also wish I knew archery was awesome, but found that out when I was playing Morrowind a week or so ago and found that I could hit things that were 10 feet or something away from me. I just love shooting a bandit in the back without them seeing and them dying. Hilarious stuff. Being able to move bear traps around sounded cool when I read that was possible, but it isn't as cool to me since the only game I bother placing traps in is Naughty Bear, and that game is only really played anymore when my nephew is around and wants to kill some teddy bears that have the same voice as him. I think I am making that kid twisted...

Here's one thing I wish I knew before playing Skyrim, my nephew can figure out the lockpick minigame faster than I ever will. Kids these days. They got all these Wiis that come in different colors and say every game is too hard, then they try out skyrim's lockpicking and figure it out faster than their elder does. Is this insanity? How does a five year old figure that out faster than me?!

Also, sneaking is the best kind of way to attack in any video game. Skyrim has taught me that, and now I love to use sneak attacks and sneaky methods in games that allow it. Besides, a goon finding himself shot in the head with no knowledge of who did it before he dies is funny.

I'm on console but I'm curious.....Isn't there a mod that makes it so that by swimming in the the sea of ghost(for example) you can become hypothermic depending on what you are wearing??

Kids tend to look at things differently then advlts, us advlts tend to over think/anolyze things where kids look at stuff with a more simplistic view, they are also better at "thinking outside the box" then most advlts as well.

This is true. I was able to use a VCR when I was about 3 but forgot how to as I got older. I blame the DVD players.

Which perks to pick up and which to avoid. Since there is currently no way to reset perks, it's annoying when I find out later that I wasted points on perks that I didn't need or use.

You don't need enchanted equipment to fight bandits and forsworn. Having the quick reflexes shield perk greatly neutralizes the power attacks the opposition. Before an enemy can get their power attack off, they eat my shield. Also, having plenty of health potions is always a good idea, and alchemy is a good method of acquiring them.

I wish I'd known that catching butterflies is so horrifying. Before the game came out a bunch of sneak-peek reviews mentioned stuff about how they'd keep starting out on a quest or two, only to find themselves wandering off to chase butterflies... it was touted as an example of the many wonders of exploration and the sheer depth of the game etc etc. So of course when I finally got to play on release day I just had to go chase some butterflies! I skipped gaily through the meadows, full of child-like wonder, catching butterflies... and then RIPPING THEIR WINGS OFF AND CRUSHING THEM. I was so upset the first time I actually caught one and saw the wings added to my inventory and realized what I'd just done.

I wish I knew about fast travel and the quick menu…I didn’t learn fast travel till my first character was around level 32-34 and after I finished a lot of quests…I didn’t learn about the quick menu till my 3rd character.

I wish I knew how much help from mods the game needed before it became decent.

I wish I knew that too many autosaves + a new character save would overwrite my "main" character save. Damn you PS3. Damn you.

The PS3 also has this weird thing against making a third new character. Want to play as a gecko thing called an Argonian? Oh, you have two characters already so we'll just let you play with the chargen until the big dragon comes.

Anise's cabin, I actually went past this without knowing it was the perfect starter home, a minutes walk from riverwood with safe storage, bed , alchemy station and enchanting table.
