I think Oblivion is better then Skyrim...

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:19 pm

Ive came to the conclusion that oblivion is better then skyrim, unless the expansions somehow blow my mind. Skyrim is very "dumbed down" I know these two words are very controversial, but it's true! Oblivion had far more weapons, spells, summons, bigger cities, better guilds, bigger world, (although not as detailed). Although skyrim does win in combat and graphics, I LOVE SKYRIM. But so many things have been takin out, it's starting to get a bit ridiculous. Of course all of this is my opinion. Now feel free to state yours....
Agreed, They also had acrobatics.. But one thing Skyrim does better is Character models

Oblivion was my least favorite of the series, always will be. Skyrim was a major improvement to me.

I agree with this 110%. I probably only racked up about 80 hours total in Oblivion (plus expansions)..

Skyrims NPCS are so stagnant and dull, they barely do anything at all! Oblivion you would see someone in the market, then going to eat, then sleep, sure it's just basic stuff but it really felt like the world around you was alive, the AI in oblivion is better

I've said before that as a video game in general, Skyrim is better, but as an RPG I'd take Oblivion. Does that echo your sentiments at all?

as a Video game yeah Skyrim Blows Oblivion out of the water, as an RPG......eeeeehhh I dislike them both as RPG's my thoughts on Oblivion haven't changed and no offense to anyone but I didn't have that revelation that Oblivion is suddenly a great RPG, I still think its crap but that's just me.

sorry Its almost impossible for me to Say Oblivion is better than Daggerfall/Morrowind/Skyrim...

I agree with you, both are too shallow as RPGs go, but at least Oblivion has attributes and spellmaking. Actually, Skyrim not having those kinda makes it the red-headed stepchild of the series (if you think about it).

Overall I agree with the OP. I enjoyed the main quest in oblivion better, I enjoyed the factions better(Especially The Dark Brotherhood), the graphics were cartoonic but hey I'm pretty it was considered top notch when it first released.

Oblivion doesn't have more spells then Skyrim??? You sure? Oblivion had multitudes more and a spell creation system. Skyrim I think doesn't even have more then 80 spells which is why I hate magic in Skyrim. Spell Creation is what made magic awesome in first place IMO.

The guilds are SO much better in oblivion! C'mon man, the cities are much bigger overall compared to Skyrims "cities" skyrim also cut athletics, acrobatics, spell making, IMO oblivious guards were more interesting, they were actually cool and useful. How can you say skyrim has more spells them oblivion?!

Over half your answers can be proven false. Skyrim has more spells? With spell creation Oblivion had near-infinite spell combinations. More weapons? Maybe. Larger cities? Never got lost in a Skyrim city, still get lost sometimes in Skingrad and Leyawiin. Better guilds? Purely opinion, most will say yes Oblivions were better.

NPCs had regular jobs in Oblivion. They wake up in their house, eat some breakfast, and then go to their work, which is their job, which they go to daily, which makes it regular. And NPCs in Skyrim never travel every month.

Spell creation aside, having more spells is not necessarily a good thing. What is the point of twenty* different fire spells (largely different in terms of damage and usage cost only) if you'll only ever... maybe use two or three at most? Give me a much smaller and useful pile of spells any day of the week.

Back onto the subject of spell creation though, there is utterly no point in having a large arsenal of spells already in place when you have that kind of functionality.

He also said Oblivion didn't have better guild lol. I think hes first person I ever seen say that. Even Skyrim lovers who hate Oblivion would disagree with this.

Sheesh. Here we go again. Skyrim is *dumbed down*... coming from someone who says Oblivion is better. If you would have said Morrowind was better, then there'd be something to discuss. But this just tells me that Oblivion was your first TES experience and you got used to how it handled. You don't like how the new car handles so instead of just saying you don't like how it handles you have to say the one that you're used to is *better* and that the car that you just don't like is *dumber*. Thus, implying that anyone who prefers Skyrim over Oblivion is of lesser intelligence. This is an old and silly argument.

I def see what your saying, thou I think spell creation should be added in Skyrim at some point and time, also lower magic cost of destruction spells and allow mana to regen in combat.

Oblivion indeed was my first TES game but most of what I stated are either facts or that most people would agree on, like I said in my original post I love skyrim, but oblivion just beats it out, it's not just because it was my first TES game either, my first fallout game was fallout 3 and I found it rather dull, to this day I have never finished it, I love new Vegas and fallout 2, all I'm saying is that oblivion seemed like more effort was put into it
