I think Oblivion is better then Skyrim...

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 11:01 am

Ive came to the conclusion that oblivion is better then skyrim, unless the expansions somehow blow my mind. Skyrim is very "dumbed down" I know these two words are very controversial, but it's true! Oblivion had far more weapons, spells, summons, bigger cities, better guilds, bigger world, (although not as detailed). Although skyrim does win in combat and graphics, I LOVE SKYRIM. But so many things have been takin out, it's starting to get a bit ridiculous. Of course all of this is my opinion. Now feel free to state yours....

The only thing I feel that is true about your statement is the summons part.

Oblivion's landmarks were generic and dull. Each cave was the same cave of bandits and zombies. Places in Skyrim have stories and backgrounds, as well as the cities and people in them.

Oblivion was my least favorite of the series, always will be. Skyrim was a major improvement to me.

Oblivion's art style is too cartoonish, the level scaling is terrible, and the voice acting is awful, but apart from that, I'd say it's superior to Skyrim in almost every way.

I do agree the voice acting is border-line terrible.

Most everything including weapons and places in oblivion were generic. The statement you made is not fact its a opinion, unless you have numbers to show for it.

IMO Skyrim improves what Oblivion had, accept the guilds are terrible and no spell creation which ruined the mage gameplay for me.

I've said before that as a video game in general, Skyrim is better, but as an RPG I'd take Oblivion. Does that echo your sentiments at all?

Your gonna get a lot of hate with this but I'm with you. Oblivion is still to this day my favorite game ever and it's the only game I haven't traded or sold. I got mine when it came out and I'll never get rid of it. I'll never get rid of skyrim either. Plus I preordered from GameStop and people who get it from there know how there numbers and line works and mine was number 111 which was awesome seein how it came out on 11/11/11. Still got the wrapper and receipt with the numbers on it :)

The only two part of Oblivion that is worse than Skyrim is the world and the level scaling, i agree with the OP at this very moment for now. What I am waiting for is the bugs to be squashed out and then I might say Skyrim will take my number two spot but bugs have been stopping it from upping Oblivion. The level scaling and the world hurt Oblivion bad but not as much as the bugs hurt Skyrim.

Bigger cities is true. Bigger landmass is a close call because skyrims dungeons add a lot of more land, but I still say oblivion is bigger. 90% of TES players would also agree that oblivious guilds are far better them skyrims

I don't know I love both games but whenever I play Skyrim, it just doesn't have the feeling the Oblivion gave me. I miss the first person horse riding and the medieval town guards. Plus I like the Havok animation system better, Skyrim feels a bit bulky and too barbaric

This basically. I tend to like Oblivion better than Skyrim. In fact a lot of things in Oblivion would've been great in Skyrim.

Are we really breaking it down now so that graphics decides a better game?

But more to the point, Oblivion to me is more immersive, which makes it a better game. In Oblivion NPCs have complex schedules, guilds have better stories/actually mean something, and a lot of other things, both big and small, that make Oblivion better IMO.

Have you ever seen an NPC in Skyrim make trips to another hold that was not part of a script for a quest?

Skyrim is WAY better then Oblivion.

There are very few things Skyrims not better at (one of which is spells)

Morrowind however IMO is about the same as Skyrim.

Magic was severely cut back on in skyrim as well, this a huge negative.

Roughnecks is Oblivion your first Elder Scrolls game? It was mine I have same feeling I enjoyed Oblivion more then Skyrim, but this is because Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game, going back and playing it a week ago Skyrim def upgrades on it for most part.
