Is this "cheap", or just playing smart?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:18 am

So, I didn't realize until very recently that the shout Elemental Fury did not work with enchanted weapons.

However, on the UESPWiki, I read that it only checks to see if there is an enchantment on your left hand weapon, thus if you are dual wielding (like I do), you can have an enchanted weapon in your right hand, and a non enchanted weapon in your left hand, and the shout will work.

So, with that said, is it cheap to equip an unenchanted weapon in my left hand to have usage of the Elemental Fury shout? Or is that just a smart usage of one's abilities and gear?

Actually, with that shout, there is no need for enchantments, IMO. With the DW increased speed perks and that shout, you turned into a giant (Giant) blender anyway. But it could be useful. With a Paralyze enchantment...?

sure you can, the big difference here is that no one else is affected or cares so you're free to do whatever you want

I think it's stupid beyond belief that this shout doesn't work with enchanted weapons? Why? It's an augmentation to your melee speed. What the flaming sword do enchantments have to do with it? Any way to bypass this silly restriction is fine by me.

Well, i acquired 27 gold bars from the Halted Stream Camp thanks to the Transmute spell. If that spell had been added by a mod, i'd consider it cheating :hehe:

Bethesda just doesn't think these things trough, so play how you like. The game's balance apparently wasn't a big concern for the devs, so it doesn't need to be for the players either ^_^

Overall I agree with this, I don't understand why there is an enchantment restriction on it.

I guess I wasn't asking so much for justification, rather just opening up a conversation.

As far as whether or not one person's "cheating" affects another person... well, people spamming Smithing all the way to 100 with nothing but Iron Daggers has not affected me, because I now have a harder time leveling Smithing, as someone who didn't exploit Iron Daggers, and now it takes me an incredibly long time to level up Smithing, because I only use it on an "on need" basis instead of spamming it to whatever level.

If he is asking the question then apparently he cares if its a cheat. I also try not to use cheats in games because it ruins the experience. As to the question I am not sure if this counts because I do not know why it doesn't work with enchanted weapons. But if I had to guess i would say because it counts as a temporary enchant to the weapon and enchanted weapons cant be enchanted twice. If that is the reason then I think its okay to do it.

well, cheats and exploits are subjective. ive even seen people screaming that using potions is cheating whereas other people would openly use all exploits and say its fine

and cheats ruining to experience, also depends on preference.

do not feed....

or do, i dont really care

back i topic, yeah it seemed it a bit odd it didnt work with enchanted items

but considering its power even without enchantments its pretty damn strong. especially with a dual wield build with speed perks. especially with improved weapons via smithing

i dont see the enchantments a big loss, but then i never really did use enchantments. found refilling the charge all the time a bit tiresome, even with azura's star and a soultrap enchantment

There is no way to cheat in a single player game such as skyrim, the only problem is when people use these exploits, knowing perfectly well what they're doing, and then they come on here and complain about how the game is too easy.

The extra damage done by enchants is pretty minor compared to what you can do with smithing, so the restriction is a bit silly.

Orc racial with a vampire necromage plus the elemental fury shout - that's cheating :teehee:

Frankly, I thought it was exceedingly cheap to not make it work with all weapons, not just unenchanted ones. Saw no point in doing that, it's just a stupid, random choice that was made with liquid dumb.

Exactly. OBVIOUSLY, the OP posted the topic in the first place to garner opinions and criticisms, not stupid "do whatever you want" posts.

Anyway, yes, OP, I would consider it kind of cheap. It's an exploit of the system that sought to balance (albeit poorly) the fact that you'd be swinging weapons at ludicrous speed by disallowing you to use enchanted weapons.

You should still be more than powerful enough under the effects of the shout, anyway, so it's more like a waste of charges, if you want to look at it that way.
