This game badly needs more contents

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:59 pm

When I started playing Skyrim I thought it was a really great game, and that opinion has changed for me after I reached higherlvl's. The reason for this is the lack of content, I'm at lvl 51 now, got all perks I want, done all quests except college since my char isn't a caster, so only thing left now is to run around and do the boring repeteabel ones. I think it's sad that Bethesda couldn't manage to get enough content all the way up to endlvl, since the graphics and many other things are really great. But as it is now where you are finished with it around lvl 50 if you play a lot like I do, then it's just a waste of money buying it.

Did you explore all caves and ruins, yet?

Yea, that was my next question. Did you do all the quests in all the towns?

lvl 51 without using exploits translates in about 100 hours of gameplay, probably more, how's that lack of contents?

I ran a level 46(Dest, Alt, Sneak, Alchemy, Enchant, Speech 100, Illusion to 50) High Elf Mage on about a 220 hour play-through and I missed tons of content and I didn't even do the companions quest line nor did I do the thieves quest line.

I bet OP fast traveled missed much of the content and never even got to meet Maiq.

Hi there mate!

May I ask how long it took you to get to level 51? I'm guessing beyond 100 hours. Now, 100 hours for $60 doesn't seem outrageous to me, but I could be missing something here. Anyway, forthcoming DLC should keep your appetite satisfied.

This.

Most games on the market are considered a decent length if they take 30 hours to complete.

I wish the story was more diverse and organic. The whole "CRAP! dragons..." thing is only worth one playthrough

No not 'this'.
This isnt some random game, its a TES game.
It is held to a higher standard.
100 hours on a TES game is a trial run.

I don't really judge the "content" of TES games by doing the quests. There's so much random wandering and exploring to do, that just focussing on quests seems like such a limiting way to play.

(On my first play, I eventually got around to the Civil War and the last 2/3 of the MQ in the lv49-54 range. And that's without doing the Mage, Thief, or DB questlines. And that character still hadn't visited all the cities. Or found all the Daedric shrines. That char ended up lv56, at around 90+ hours. And there'll be more characters... there's still plenty of stuff I haven't done yet.)

i can't complain about lack of content, but to be able to get to play again, i need new content :-/ i really need fighting mods(don't find any in the workshop so i will have to search in nexus), so that i actually have something to do in skyrim.

oh and.... yes i did about everything that is there in skyrim. 414 hours in. only missing out stormcloaks(not planning to ever do them, since it doesn't interest me at all. changes nothing anyways) and some daedric quests. actually only reason to play with my evil character. my main is a good one, though.

Mmmmm, more content, or more recognition for the content you have done, seeing that you used the word 'needs'? The game has loads of content, and unless you fast travel everywhere, and play 'all factions and quests with one character' style, there is plenty for you to find with new characters.

And, as people have pointed out, the OP would have had to spend at least that much time to get to level 51. And it's highly unlikely that he's discovered close to I'm-going-to-guess-and-say-half of the game world.

Also, it's ridiculous to say "I'd enjoy this game if it wasn't an Elder Scrolls game, but since it is, I'm going to go ahead and say that it's no good."

There is PLENTY of content in Skyrim. That is the one thing I will absolutely defend. The problem is that the itemization, progression and difficulty dwindles to the point where that content is meaningless and boring.

Why it is simply a rinse and repeat process, Skyrim doesn't really need more content but better content, everything in skyim is an easily viewable patter of mediocrity. Factions quests are boring and predictable, main quest is horrible and the end is disappointing, civil war quest has the scope of an ant farm and of course the end of that quest doesn't resolve or change anything.

It's like Bethesda went out of there way to make sure no quest was memorable and no quest ending had any impact on the world.

Why even bother exploring every cave? The paths are very linear uses pretty much the same art assets and you are not going to get any good loot in them anyway.

Heh funny thing about video games, no matter how much content you put into them they have to end sometime, of course Bethesda did try and extend the life of the game by having random repeatable quests but lets face it they get old fast. I guess the only thing left is to either try out some of the player made mods, make some yourself or wait until Bethesda releases some Skyrim DLC, that is unless you are on a console in which the only thing left is to wait until Bethesda releases some Skyrim DLC.

Though if I may ask, how many hours did you manage to rack up? Also has there been any word on DLC yet?

And, as people have pointed out, the OP would have had to spend at least that much time to get to level 51. And it's highly unlikely that he's discovered close to I'm-going-to-guess-and-say-half of the game world.

Well to be fair considering that most quests follow a pretty linear cookie cutter design (find this item in the end chest in some random dungeon) and are only really there to pad out the length of the game one doesnt really need to see everything in the game to get the gist of it, I mean I know this game boasts over 300 hours but considering most of it is cookie cutter crap I am sure the OP isnt missing much by not doing a few fetch quests.

There are a lot of content and quests, but most of them have been reduced to "fetch this" or "kill that" with little to no story behind them. I lost my sword, go get it for me. That bandit chief is a meanie, go kill him for me.

So what the game really needs is more story. More reason for me to want to care.

There are many quests in Skyrim that only start when you discover or are exploring a dungeon. So if you see a ruin or dungeon you haven't visited before go take a look as it might contain a surprise.

Skyrim is very much an exploration game and if you don't go out and explore you will miss out on a lot of stuff.

That's not fun to me unless you consider doing the exact same thing over and over again fun with the same predictable results.

Maybe if just ONCE, i explored a cave and found this awesome unique item or a cave turned out to be completely different from all the other caves I might be motivated to go back in for more.

FUN? Explain that concept please! LOL

Yea, TES games are all about "living" in Tamriel! I guess some people lack the imagination... for shame!

Edit: The caves do vary greatly! The details, it's all about the details!

every single dungeon or place in this game has its backstory, it doesn't need to be always something that an NPC says, there's books to read, notes you find in dungeons and journals that explain what's happening, sometimes it's only visuals, like a dead necromancer surrounded by skeletons (maybe something gone wrong for him?).
i call this fun, as well as interesting and mindblowing sometimes.
It's not the game that lacks content, it's more like players lacks interest, in my opinion.
Up to you.
