[STEAM]This game is currently unavailable.

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 7:21 pm

So a full report then it is. Since people are unwilling to help without.

Situation:
Tried to play the game along with anyone else at 2 AM (GMT+1). Didn't work. Just brought up the message above "This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time.".
Checked game files, they all were decrypted properly. File verification tells me everything is dandy. Defrag makes no change. Still says "This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time.".
Restarted, reinstalled, rebooted, re-downloaded, still says: "This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time." Short of reinstalling windows, I am pretty much helpless here.

Just to put it into perspective: I have been trying to make this game work for 13 hours now. I just want to play it! I am beat and tired and I am honestly giving up here. I have been up for over 48 hours now. It's just getting ridiculous, it can't be so hard to play a game I have on my Hard-drive, which is decrypted AND activated, and still I am denied to playing it. I am *this* close to just demand a refund and download a pirated copy that has the DRM cracked and just play that. I don't usually say that, but Steam is really making me angry here. And it's either that or jump off a bridge. So please for god's sake help me.

And the worst thing is, nobody pay's me any attention, like I am some kind of madman, running around town and rambling on about flying raccoons. I just want to play this game!

Already tried:
Closing/Reopening Steam - 30x
Reinstalling Steam - 4x
Rebooted PC - 2x
Deleted FNV and let it re-download - 1x

Exact the same Problem on my side. Steam Support only tells me to reinstall the game and steam - but that's what I did - I wrote but they don't care - same copy & paste anwer again.

FU.. steam

I had the problem myself.
I have a german copy of this game, and i only get the error while trying to start it with the english language setting.

If u happen to understand another language and your fallout allows it, try in the steam library:

Properties (of fallout new vegas) / Language / "whatever" (for example i had to take: German/Deutsch)

Now the game, atleast my does, downloads a 2gig patch ... and afterwards it worked.

Now if anyone can tell me how to get it working in english, that would be great. The german localization is total crap and its heavily cut to boot :P

Incindentally I also have the german version (but set to english), just tried setting it to actual german and it is downloading the 2Gb patch now (although I think that might be language files? I dont know if the voices are dubbed too). I hope after this it finally will work. Still, I would welcome any other suggestions. And especially how and if I can switch back to english.

*great experience*

I guess I will spend my weekend on MoH rather then Fallout :( Last Game I tried to buy on steam.

Yeah, we poor germans.

I hoped bethasda/steam would allow us to play the game atleast in english, and then uncut. Or just english...
But to implement a bug where we arent allowed to set it to english -.-

I mean whats wrong bethesda? We, the german fans who couldnt wait for a week longer cause of import issues, are getting stuck with a downgraded game, while Austria has a completely uncut german version ... what the [censored] is up with this kind of customer support -.-

I would be really glad about an option in steam to verify my age and then play the way its meant to be played.... but noooooo

Argh, how i hate this!! :swear:

Yay.. now this is great. So I am punished with a heavily crippled game and a disgusting german translation, just because Im currently living in germany to study. Even though the choice to select english language is given? Ehm.. yeah.
I'd like my money back please.

IMO, this particular choice was Valve's, not Bethesda's, I'll bet.

Is it really importand who made the decision now? I more or less wasted good money on something I did not ordered.
If I order a medium stake and get a blood soaked piece of pink beef Im kicking someones ass in the kitchen. And I'll defenitly not eat nor pay something I did not ordered.

I do agree this is rather inexcusable. I could see if Steam had a notice saying that there is a down time as the new patch is readied for release but currently that is not the case right now all we know is this game has been disabled and there is no way to fix it.

I found a trick so far and see if this helps you. I disabled the steam cloud support for the game and it allowed the game to start.

Hi guys, I also got this problem for hours but my case is a bit different and i got a work-around.

I pre-loaded that a week ago, and when it's released I immediately played it for half an hour, but seems that my PC aren't catching up with the graphics so I wanted to go out and lower the settings a bit.
BUT THEN i got this error message "This game is currently unavailable." and told me to try about later. I tried re-installing steam but that didn't help. Being able to play King's bounty: crossworlds made me think that it's not entirely steam's problem, so I focused on Fallout itself.

I REMOVE and RE-DOWNLOADED it (that waiting was killing me though sigh), and I backup-ed the files.
This time I am able to get into the game!

BUT when I tried re-entering the game, this failed AGAIN!
so I compared the files with the backup, and found that:
X:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\FalloutNVLauncher.exe (X:\ = your drive)
is actually deleted by the system / steam everytime you exit the game.
With the launcher gone, you will get the error message.

So what I did was:
1) delete the game
2) install the game again
3) BEFORE RUNNING FALLOUT, copy the FalloutNVLauncher.exe to somewhere safe (this is the backup)
4) play the game happily
5) Exit the game
When you want to play again:
6) RESTART YOUR COMPUTER (otherwise the error message will appear no matter what -_-)
7) replace the FalloutNVLauncher.exe with your backup
8) start steam and play again

This is EXTREMELY ridiculous, but before they get a fix for this, better try this solution out *cry*

If you're at all proficient with first person shooters MoH won't last you a weekend, I sat down to play it last week and I blew through single player in exactly 4 hours and 10 minutes, and that's including all of the buggy assed checkpoints that made me restart entire levels from scratch.

Though I am sure you have all looked at it, I'll post this just in case. (I didn't see some things mentioned that are in this troubleshooter.)

So far what it seems is that when the game is unsynced from the Steam Cloud the game force downloads that data to the game and that allows it to start as normal.

Yes, I did. Deselected, closed steam, opened it again and clicked on play.
Same as before, not available, yadda yadda yadda.

Try going directly to the directory containing the game and running it. This was working for me prior to finding the workaround.

Thanks for the Link, I tried now every single of those tipps but unfortunately nothing of it worked out. Still unavailable. I now asked the steam support for a refund but I expect nothing more than an other copy & pasteish answer.

I have an idea, can anyone upload me their ORIGINAL(!) falloutnv.exe and falloutnvlauncher.exe? I have a hunch that might fix the problem.

Sorry if this isn't allowed, just testing a theory.

No, that is not allowed.

There has been enough piracy talk in this topic - those who advocate or intend to pirate will receive at least a warning.

I am sorry, but you have to understand my situation here. I have a product which I paid for, which is downloaded, decrypted, unlocked, activated. But I cannot use it. Do you have at least any other recommendations?

Thats really strange. I even tested too. When I checked the box to re-enable cloud syncing it immediately didn't work. Deactivated, it worked. So strange.
