This game needs a "hide helmet" feature or something

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:09 am

Why such a feature: Some players prefer seeing their characters faces rather than the helmet. However, playing without the helmet causes severe stat loss (for instance, you would automatically lose a drastic amount of armor that is granted through perks because you took off one measily head piece). Lets face it, some like to play without a helmet for RP purposes, or maybe because we spent a lot of time designing our characters.

Method 1: Patch in a hide helmet feature

Method 2: Make perks like "well fitted" and "matching set" require at least three out of four matching pieces for you to gain the benefit. This way if we want to leave a helmet off, we still get the armor bonuses for the other three set pieces as opposed to losing all the bonus because we only took off a helmet. This makes playing without a helmet far less taxing from a stat standpoint and at least still provides players an incentive to play with a helmet on, unlike Method 1.

Method 3: Include a hide helmet feature, but this time when you choose to hide the helmet you keep the bonuses of the armor perks like "well fitted" except you lose the armor provided by the helmet only. So in this sense, the game recognizes that you are wearing all four pieces, but since the helmet is hidden you will not get armor that would otherwise have been granted to you by the helmet. This method, like Method 2, makes it less taxing if we choose to run around with a hidden helmet and still provides incentive for players to show their helmet.

Thoughts?

Is this really a big problem? Just hotkey the helmet and take it of when you want to RP or look at your face.

You also have a higher armor cap without a helmet, because you get a hidden +100 armor bonus when you have all 4 pieces on. The armor cap is 666.6 (80/0.12) btw.

Great suggestion something_awesome. I agree completely. And, yes you can hot-key, but then you use up a hot-key slot.

I dont understand people's arguement against features... Why is an added feature detrimental to you? And hotkeys do not help console players.

Ok but if they implement this feature should you be able to find the helmet again?

I agree with this.

Honestly, helms are annoying, and hardly heroic. Why does a helm make it easier to fall from great heights, or regenerate stamina faster?

However, the game already has a Hide Helmet feature - and you can get it by doing the Smithing Tutorial! And then you can upgrade it!

I disagree completely with having a "hidden" helm. I play without a helm because I wanna see my characters head, and I understand the consequence of that, I do not take higher level armor perks because of it. I think that if you really want to, then take the suggestion to hot key the item.

But there already IS a hide helmet... *reads topic* oh! well I agree, that feature would be awesome. Hell, the only things I wear on my head are either a daedric helm, a glass one, or a hood/cowl. I never like wearing the others because I think they're ugly (ESPECIALLY the ebony helmet. They made the model cool but the proportions WAY OFF)

What makes helmets worse is that the Khajiit and possibly even Argonian versions are "Stripped-down", with the backs taken off of the helmets for no reason I can discern. The Elven and Glass helmets look cool, but I end up with something stupidly small and round when I wear it with my Khajiit.

The "Caped" helmets go the opposite way from the "smooth" helmets though - with stupidly large, flared flaps behind them that make my khajiit look like she's wearing a lampshade on her head.

Agree I was thinking the same thing

You have my full support! Most RPG's have this, and if I was a hero in real life I would not wear a helmet, so I don't want my hero to.

Wouldnt mind the option but theres no way I'd do that. I want realism and if I want to get the protection of a helmet I'd have to wear it. If I want to look good I'll risk getting my head smashed.

A bit off topic but the game is hardly difficult enough that you need to care about the stat loss from not wearing a helmet. If you dont want to look bad then just dont wear it. Wont make the game hard.

I don't really see it as a problem. I have the helmet in the favorites list, when i need the extra armor and/or perks effects it's quick to equip it, and remove it again afterwards. Of course, there's no reason to not approve of this idea. Such feature was requested for Dragon Age Origins, and was included in DA2 as a response.

True but the helmets are pretty cool in this game.

So, you want the bonus from wearing a full set of armour, but without wearing a full set of armour....

There's just nothing people won't complain about, is there?

Actually, i though that was a nice little detail, it's propably because the head shape of the beasts isn't at all like humans or elves. Nice effort, but i wonder why they didn't make beast versions of the masks?

However, for the most part, the backs of the heads ARE - and the backs are the removed parts. It's not like what part of the helms they do wear accommodate for her ears or an Argonian's horns anyway. I like the wings on Glass and Elven helmets!

And it's because those masks actually EAT YOUR FACE!

Why should I have to wear a full set of armor to get faster stamina though?

That one makes no sense.

That perk should only break if you wear any heavy armor.... I should be able to have open, or non-armor filled slots without it breaking that perk.

Matching set? yah... I can see requiring all armor on to get the armor bonus...

but reduce fall damage/ stagger/ and improved regen shouldn't require full armor of weight... but rather not allow armor of the other weight class
