Is this 1.2.0 patch worth installing?

Post » Fri May 20, 2011 2:32 am

Topic says it all.

I heard about new issues caused by this patch. So I wanted to ask: is it worth installing or is it better to wait until they release the next patch or a hotfix?

I, for example, do not use d3d9.dll fix and the game runs fine, nor do I experience any bugs with water. I have never got my saves corrupted (knock on wood), my Steam Cloud is off. All other issues in the changelog do not seem critical. These fixes would be welcome, of course, but if the patch causes more problems than it solves, I may well wait until the next one

Not going to vote any, the patch release was botched but fixed in the same day, I say kudos to the developers for doing it so fast.

So, is that hotfix already online? But what was fixed in it?

Nothing in the patch notes really affected my normal gameplay (I had none of the bugs, video problems or save corruption issues listed). The patch did, however, break my game for no logical reason - I can no longer use any lever action gun without causing massive amounts of lag to kick in, commands to fail, and getting to run in place for anywhere from 10 seconds to a full minute. If I could roll it back to the older version, I would.

The hotfix, fixed invulnerable critters.

The hotfix, fixed invulnerable critters.

Thanks for info.

However, the invulnerable critters seem to be not the only problem with this patch.

As far as I can tell, the only other problems are either very minor (Victor showing up on the map as a companion) or extremely rare (worse performance after patch than with the D3D9.dll file/CTD on launch not caused by .ini edits).

It should be version 1.1.1, not 1.2. At least that's what Steam is pushing out.

To keep thing comfortable I had been using the D3d9 patch and reduced water textures. With this patch in place, I've been able to set everything to Ultra without a single issue. Though subtle, there is definitely an improvement in lighting, shading, etc now that the proper DX is running.

Nvidia 9800 GT 1GB
AMD QuadCore 965

If you've had to use the D3d9 patch, then you need to get this patch and remove the D3d9 patch. You'll be glad you did.

Breaks the entire game and it won't even startup now. DO NOT download it until they fix this (Most likely be another month at the rate they get things done)

It's happening to like 90% of PC gamers, look at the threads in this forum

Didn't have a choice. Steam automatically did it.

Well, you could switch off auto-updating fo New Vegas (which I have done now, it's the only game in my Steam library for which I have auto-patching disabled).

From what I'm hearing, if I'll switch auto-update back on, I'll back up the game content using Steam's backup feature first, hoping that I'll be able to roll back if the need arises.

My patch initially caused my game to crash. I did what the Bethesda guy said to do (verify game cache files) and it was fine after that. I was able to get rid of the .dll fix too.

I just started a new character for another replay. :)

I think you got the version # wrong.

I ran into a bug, I can't use any Rad-away. Everytime my game crashs.

I had that bug. I dropped some of my Rad-away / Rad-X on the floor, saved, quit, and reloaded. I played a couple more hours then magically it was okay again. I don't know what fixed it exactly. Maybe some of the specific instances of rad-away are screwed up and if you pick them up it crashes?

That was before the patch too.

Well, it's what the "Game updates" topic says. So, where is the mistake: in that topic or is the new patch not the same as the one described in that topic?

The patch fixed my save game crash bug problems. I was finally able to finish the game today. I was pissed at first because of all of the bugs, but thanks to the programmers for fixing the issue.

this patch has worked well for me, i got rid of the d3d9.ini and gee what a difference. pretty much solid 60fps with maxed out graphics. prior to this it was a little jerky even with the d3d9. the 5970 i have is now handling this game fine and i agree, looks far better with the higher direct x working. the save game corruption i had previously from vault 3 has gone and can now load once corrupted saves.

all in all very happy with this patch.

however i have seen victor pop up as a companion. dont really care, that is a fair trade off from the previous problems i was experiencing (even though you shouldnt need a trade off!)

My view is NO at this point .. I am at the point of uninstall and reinstall to old version (I hope steam won't force the patch on me when do so). Did all the fixes they say and still can not save the game. Initially had the bomb on starting the game, got around that by unistalling all mods .. after that all worked. So on a dare I reinstalled all the mods using and everything worked fine and could save. Went back and got all the stuff lost and was motoring along and now again can't save, nothing new added the game just refuses to save without a crash to D. When fast travel and it auto saves it doesn't bomb but the autosave didn't really occur. Oh yeah when I unload all mods again after the 2nd occurance of fail to save, I can save again and then can reapply the mods and save works but for how dang long I wonder. Something was definately hosed with this mod. Not running with Aii ... but no matter as mentioned above, get to a point and the game refuses to save with mod's enabled. No idea what the issue might be so back to troubleshooting .. a new game I presume

Another thing is I keep getting 1 file wrong when do the steam test ... it d/ls a fix but when ck again same thing occurs, so not fixing something with the steam prop check also.

Patch made it so the game crashes after going through any door to a different area a second time. Really annoying and very random. So wait, I guess.

so weired that this game behave difrently

i even use alot mods and this patch did wonder for me.
Sure you not overcloakcing, bad drivers, virus, spyware bla bla so much that can effect gaming.
For me the game is very stable, try dissabling all mods then enabling them 1 at time with an hour between or something.

Good patch :) woho
