Or is it just an adventure FPS. 2 completely different things, is this gonna be like Fallout 3 or is it just gonna be a gun game where you walk around a lot..

I think it's Adventure/Action FPS with minimal RPG elements if any.

It is still listed as 1st person shooter but is in the brink of rpg.

This is not an RPG, this is an FPS. You will be able to explore a big open world, like in an RPG, and do side missions as well, but there will be no stats, or character levels. The character progression comes from finding optional upgrades for your weapons, and car, making them stronger and more useful.

You won't be just walking around a lot, first because you will have a car, and there will be car combat, plus you can take part in races. There will be lots of fun weapons (which like I said are upgradeable), and different clans of bandits with different features to shoot. There will be remote control bombs, buildable turrets, and bosses the size of a building, so there will be a lot of stuff to do, not just walking around.

It's mainly an action game, with (hopefully) tons of fun action.

A case can be made for pretty much any game being an RPG, but I think it's safe to categorise Rage as a first-person shooter (albeit with some RPG-like features).

I wonder if we'll be able to fire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket-propelled_grenade, though...

DEAR GOD NO!!!! Gameplay in borderlands got real tedious real fast.

Also RAGE is a fps with light rpg elements, kinda like metro 2033 I would guess.

But better.

And I certainly hope it turns out to be nothing like Borderlands. It was fun but if I wanted to play Boderlands I'd buy Borderlands.

That takes it away from the realm of "Fallout clone", but what takes it out of the realm of "Borderlands minus the RPG and plus realistic graphics"?
Also, nice name.

It's well thought out and has been in production before Borderlands. It was unvaled before Boderlands came out and then Borderlands 'mysteriously' changed their art style to something that looks very similar to RAGE.

Borderlands is RAGE's clone.

Hey, Metro was a fun game. It had some pretty damn PA weapons in it. I actually did a blogpost about "PA" weapons.

Borderlands is not RAGE's clone. RAGE is not an RPG. Borderlands is. So that's not a very good point to make. RAGE is firsst and foremost anf 1st person shooter, but with elements from other game genres in there, such as RPG and Driving, which is why I will almost definatly be purchasing this in september.

Crazy how people still can't get past the comparisons.

This is still another Id game-its a shooter. they ve just moved out of corridors and added racing, a 100% unique lanscape, brutally smart AI and upgrades for your weapon and player (nanites).

borderlands was just a lvl up grind that prided its self on lots and lots of guntypes.

fallout was a sandbox lite RPG

all very different

Well they are comparable? Because they are all set in similar conditions, and they are all FPS. So how are they not comparable? Yes they have differences, but it would be pretty boring if they were exactly the same. So really they are comparable, but RAGE isn't an RPG, strictly speaking it's a FPS.

Its a great game, just be sure you know that it is a bit of a horror game as well I guess. It's a rather unique Post Apocalyptic vibe as it has supernatural things tossed in as well.

Yeah, I guess it's sth like that, with the movement/controls/aiming hopefully being better. Id games usually controlled great, at least on the PC. The actual shooting in Borderlands didn't feel that great to me, but the exploration and the loot-hoarding aspects were fun. I guess that's the difference between being an RPG and an FPS.

Metro is PC and 360.

Btw Metro is not at all like Rage (or Borderlands), it's a post-apocalyptic game, but set in Russia, not some desert/wasteland. It's kinda like Stalker, except it's a lot more linear than all the other games I mentioned. It looks nice and is very atmospheric tho.

What is stalker? And what do you mean by atmospheric? :) Any reason it wasn't released on the PS3?

Stalker is a series of games made by GSC Game World from Ukraine, set in post-apocalyptic Chernobyl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:_Shadow_of_Chernobyl). They are available on the PC. They were inspired by the book and movie of the same name.

By atmospheric I mean that it has a strange, scary atmosphere aided by the graphics and the sound effects.

As for why it wasn't released on the PS3, i have no idea, but Microsoft wasn't involved with it in any way, so I guess it's not out of the question that they port it someday. Eastern-European devs usually come from a PC background (Metro was done by Ukranians as well, some of them worked on Stalker before), so I guess they lacked the resources and experience needed to make a proper PS3 port.

Great, when playing Fallout 3 I tried to make things as scary as possible (such as playing in the dark at midnight).

This thread is way too of topic.
