This series is spiraling out of control. Please stop the dum

Too much was cut. Staples of the series are gone. At least mods will finish the game Beth started.

Sadly, console players like me are SOL when it comes to cut content (like spell making). :sadvaultboy:

Money talks, and Skyrim is selling very well. So complaining that the next game should go back to it's Daggerfall roots, isn't going to fly. Why should Bethesda fix what is working, because a few people on a message board just wants Morrowind 2?

In modern day business money is king. There are a few indie developers out there that feels otherwise, but the only reason why they can feel that way is they don't have the need to earn x amount of money to support the everyday part of the business. If you can earn 700million on making a game if you make it a game the majority of players can enjoy, there is no way how they would be able to defend choosing to make the game for hardcoe players only and earn only 50-100millions. If someone made that decision they would most likely be sacked and replaced with someone else really fast. The only thing a discussion like this can lead to is that the developers see what people feel is not good and improve on it in the next game. However that requires people to post constructive criticism and not something like "Skyrim svcks ass!!! it's not even an RPG trolololololololol", sadly some gamers seems unable tom realize such a thing. ;)

Well there are elements in Skyrim that is far from good looking at it as a RPG.

Few dialogue options - The game would have been better if the player was given more choices in dialogues, like they could decide to end a quest in a different way by lying to a person who gave them the quest if they had high enough speech, of course there would be a chance that the person found out of this and then caused problems and kept giving the player a bad reputation.

No real consequence system - You can literally take items from a shop, or steal all the items the shop owner have and sell them back to him without him recognizing them. Some items are even marked "steal" which makes it easy to pick out the ones that you can take and sell back without any risk of getting caught.

No reputation system - Or at very best it is bugged badly... Once you become a guild leader in a faction they don't really seem to recognize you, you are still Brynjolf's newest protege even tho you really are the guild master. By stealing and killing as long as the last witness dies you risk nothing, there is no system to pick up the player as a good or bad person.

These are 3 things Skyrim do lack to become a really good RPG game, I do enjoy the game immensly, but it is not a perfect RPG game. It's imo a really good game, it has decent RPG possibilities, but it does lack some things that would take the rpg elements from decent to frigging awesome.

I hope the expansion or similar will add some of the features the game now is lacking, or that the next game brings the focus a bit back on some RPG elements. However the new skill and perk system is imo finally a good system that allows me to crate a unique person.

Agreed man. If Skyrim had those three features in the game I would be calling it the best RPG of our decade, but instead of improving on and correcting features from previous games they decided to simplify EVERYTHING instead of actually addressing it.

that's because you're a friend of the shopkeeper
they don't explicitly tell you when this happens but it's usually if you do quests for them I think

and besides the items that aren't considered stolen is pretty much only potatoes and [censored]

Could be because you are a friend, but in my world I would have loved if the shopkeeper went "hey these are my things!" and you then had to either fix the friendship or sell to a different store. Most of the items that is not marked with Steal are usually items of no real value, that is true, but yet it seems wrong that you can clear out these and sell back to the storekeeper without anything happening. Having a consequence system like this would add a lot to the game as your actions suddenly would have more of a meaning, and in RPG perspective it would also bring in elements that allowed you to play the character with this in mind.

I always found it weird that the majority of fan boys and blind defenders of the ES series are newbs, not vets, unlike what you would find with other Titles/series. Just an observation.

I for one support this thread. I don't hate Skyrim, but Skyrim is severely lacking in many areas including magic, factions, dialogue options, companion interactions, birthsigns, and an attribute system. I don't like features being progressively stripped from the series, so I hope others post their distaste for cut features in the hopes the developers will stop cutting and/or add more features back.

^ This. I like Skyrim but some things like: Very short questlines, annoying and repetitive dialogue, the fact that coming close to 5 meters from someone makes them spout how we're never going to the cloud district, or if I have tried mercenary work, or maybe how they enjoy selling vegetables and fruits, the point is no one in real life passes by and tells you their life story just because they're close to you. That [censored] is so [censored] annoying I want to murder everyone. Don't even get me started on the [censored] children.

Also the dungeons; they all look pretty and different but its the same thing, go in, kill and then take the fast-exit way out, the one that every dungeon in skyrim magically has.

Also the 1-way dialogue which comes down to basically "yes" or "no", and sometimes..just SOMETIMES you can be sarcastic or doing it for the reward only.

This is of course not everything that bothers me with Skyrim, but I don't want to keep going or else I'll just look like a whiny brat and I'm not.

The GTA fan base is the same way. The veterans of the series are often the only ones criticizing the cut content and poor design choices that have appeared after San Andreas.

My favorite part about the Bethesda Defense League is that they tell anyone who dares criticize the game to leave the forums. You would think that people were insulting their honor or something, judging by how defensive they get.

The proper course of action to take upon thy honor being insulted is to challenge thy opponent to duel. :toughninja:

fan boys and haters are equally as bad as both sides are blind to obvious facts and if you don't feel the same way it means your an idiot that don't see the reality for what it is or something like that :P

Is this really necessary? This topic has been discussed to the point of exhaustion.

No one is going to change their mind at this point. If you really hate the game, cant't you just move on with your life?

Just watching the trend of profit versus "streamlining" should tell you exactly what to expect from the next TES installment. There really isn't anything we can do except hope that the CK lets us change the direction of the game.

Really, we have a right to complain. This series was built by aiming at a small, loyal demographic. Skyrim is a scattergun that aims at a giant mass of drooling idiots. Sure, it still hits that small, loyal demographic of Gygax [censored], but the love just isn't there anymore. It's been replaced by execution sequences and magical GPS compasses. Questing through dialogue is no more. The act of questing has been replaced by a magical quest marker. You can play without the marker if you want, but you only end up wandering around blindly because the dialogue that supports such a playstyle has been removed. Dungeons are all created linearly to help you not get lost. Just aim your compass at the marker, hold forward and swing your sword a few times.

I just feel like a stepping stone to that one billion dollar demographic.

I still enjoy Skyrim, but it isn't as good of a roleplaying game as its predecessors was.

You have insulted my honor! If proposed methods were not too spreadsheety, you not labeled an essential character, or if I were given an opposing dialogue option I would be defending it! :P

It wouldn't be so bad if games as ambitious as the ES were a dime a dozen. But they're not. Its basically the last and only of its kind. Of all the games that can be sacrificed to the unreceptive demographics, ES should have been the last.

Lack of quest markers made this unreadable to me. Hold my hand harder next time. Also, regenerate my health for me.

That's too much to remember. Simplify it and put it in a pure quest log rather than a journal, cut down the number of directions so they can look better and we can get more posts on screen, and don't forget to make sure everything is always tuned to my level with no consequences to me not directly doing as told.

If you look at it based from the "I'm running a business and I have a family to feed" vs. "well these guys on the Internet said I am going down the wrong path"

If I was making more and more money, I would totally [censored] streamline it. At least they give out the CK so you can make the game more to your liking.
