This should help

Well, need to take into account that most of the more expensive ones are the 'named' or pre-customized variants of basic weapons. ie: That Gun for a .556 pistol, or Chopper (?) for a cleaver (not that you can mod a cleaver that I know of). Since they come pre-customized/modded, it makes some sense that you couldn't do it further. think of it this way. Because it's custom, not all the standard/default bolts/screws/etc are in the same places anymore, so the 'standard' mod just can't be attached properly to be useful.

Sorry, by expensive I just meant the weapons like the Marksman Carbine or the Anti-Materiel Rifle. I agree that you shouldn't be able to modify "named" weapons. They're already powerful enough.

Any by the way, you can mod a cleaver. Replace the handle with a carbon fiber body (to decrease weight), add a nifty laser (to aid in aiming it), and maybe a scope (so you can see your enemy that's right in front of you). Would be kinda pointless to mod it in real life though.

My computer costs less than that a a brand new Xbox 360 and I'm running the game on "Ultra" settings with zero problems, It's better to build the PC yourself than have some people you don't know do it, while also most of the time, lying to you telling you that you need stuff you actually don't, just so you'll spend more money. Also, never buy a "Pre-built" PC, rip off

Please! Give your head a shake.
XBox360 is like $300 bucks.
A good PC vidcard (like mine) costs ~$250.
So, what PC did you build for $300 bucks that plays New Vegas on Ultra!?
My rig doesn't play on Ultra (and just my CPU costs $300.)

thats a very douchy comment.

some of us cant afford great gaming computers

Not intending this as a bash, but rather hoping it's useful advice.

This response from console users is really uninformed. You can play FO:NV on most machines build in the last few years. If you wanted to build a PC for the sole purpose of playing FO:NV on ultra high settings, the minimum cost would only be about $350. The idea that "gaming machines" are incredibly expensive is completely outdated. $1000 is all you need to play the best games on the highest settings. $600 will usually be enough for the majority of us as a very good "budget gaming" rig. The people the spend upwards of a couple grand are just spending it for bragging rights, and the senseless theory that they need to be able to play games on their highest settings, five years from now. The truth is, CPU's have on average a lifespan of five years simply due to natural copper diffusion. So in reality you're way better off just buying a good case and power supply and replacing everything else for $300-$400 every three or so years. You'll still be playing games on ultra high settings, simply in a rational manner.

Back on topic now...

I'm on PC and my game has crashed three times in 35 hours of gameplay. I've never downloaded a patch and I've only come across one other glitch. From horror stories of the first patch for console versions, I think I'll continue to do nothing. Honestly, if your version is working, I'd suggest doing the same.

*blinks* A... laser sight.... on a cleaver..... ???

Am I the only one thinking that if you're THAT bad at hand-to-hand, that you need a laser sight for a straight-edge straightforward weapon (as compared to the trickiness of say, Nunchaku)... ... i can't even finish this.. I'm laughing too hard

I haven't gotten to the AM rifle or Marksman Carbine yet, so couldn't tell you. But yes, seems a bit silly that they wouldn't have SOME mods.. though those could come later with DLC possibly.

For the record, I recently built a computer capable of playing FFXIV on near-max settings (that game is basically setting the bar for computers at the moment, for those who don't know), and it cost me about $800 CAD. FNV has nowhere near the requirements that game has, so you can see the cost would be significantly less. And that's building it from scratch, by the way. If you happen to already have a relatively recent computer that you can just upgrade (all you'd really need is a new video card and maybe a new CPU, and maybe toss in a stick of RAM or two, all dependent on your motherboard), then it's even cheaper.

Not bashing the console users, of course. Just saying that getting a gaming-ready PC is not as prohibitive as you might think. (And don't even worry about the knowledge/skill involved; I knew only the absolute basics of a computer's innards before starting this, i.e., that a video card makes things pretty and RAM will somehow make it go faster.)

http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/11/02/25-best-fallout-new-vegas-mods/ should hopefully stop a lot of peoples whining. :celebration: There are many fixes in this link for all the crap I've seen people constantly whining about on these forums day in and day out.

Except for 360 and ps3 owners.
Man, the consoles soooooo need their own bit of the forum. I hate having to read rubbsih about mods that I cant use!lol!

My graphics card was $110 on newegg two and a half years ago. I'm betting you can find it elsewhere right now for about $70. (Sapphire 4830)

If your CPU is bottlenecking your system, it would have to be seriously slow. Any CPU over $90 from newegg will blow through this game.

Motherboards are as cheap as $40

A decent case/PSU combo is as low as $60

4 gigs of decent ram is as low as $60.

So $320 for the essential components. Hard drives haven't gone anywhere in years. So unless you're buying a solid state drive, you should just be resuing an old one. If you don't have an old one, buy one for about $40. DVD burners are like $20.

My computers components are worth about $500 on the market right now and I play FO:NV without any lag on ultra high settings at full HD resolution on a 22" Asus monitor. Please don't make ignorant statements.

P.S, your personal bottleneck is clearly your RAM, which has terrible latencies, and you only have 3GB at 1066 of it. Your processor should eat everything up.

Hey.. It could happen. I wouldn't rule out modding a cleaver.

More seriously though, I do hope that Obsidian works on expanding the mods. I mean, it says you could put a maximum of three mods on a weapon, but most weapons don't have more than two mods for them and some have none at all. You wouldn't necessarily need to be creative it what you make available, just create some generic ones. For instance, for assault rifle style weapons you could have a choice between reflex and magnified scopes, extended magazines, longer/shorter barrels (longer barrel makes it more powerful and accurate. Shorter barrel makes it lighter and easier to handle and perhaps lowers the AP cost to fire it in VATS), addition of a laser (increased accuracy), or even a single-shot grenade launcher.

The last mod wouldn't be easy to add into the game, but it would be possible to make it so it simply allows you to fire a 40mm or 25mm grenade from the weapon as a different ammo type.

Just ideas!

This post is ridiculous!
I have no bottlenecks. Who says I do?
Are you ASSUMING things again dude? LoL
My rig plays like the wind (60 fps minimum)!
A 4830 is junk - I have a 1GB HD4870 here that I'm not even using.
I have no bottlenecks, my latencies are NOT terrible, and your 'ultra-high' rig doesn't seem like any prize to me.
(I'll bet you are using the d3d9.dll, LoL)
So to be clear - I have no complaints except you can't build a rig for the price of an XBox360 that will play New Vegas.
I build rigs every day, you dont need to explain to me what things cost, LoL.
$300 is for the big-dollar XBox too - they have ones that cost less.
Hey I don't use one (I've never even seen one), I'm just saying.
So could you please identify for me, exactly which of my statements do you consider 'ignorant' Mr. Expert-guy?

Only if you are incredibly defensive about everything... If you decided against the additional cost of a gaming PC, which isn't nearly as much as you might think, then you lose out on the additional customization provided by modding. It's unreasonable to expect the original developers to create additional options that will please everybody or create content that fits a specific niche desire. If you decided on a console then fine, but don't then complain at people who do get to enjoy mods because of your own decision.

I don't see how SpecTre calling a douchy comment, that was clearly douchy, being "incredibly defensive". If he hadn't have said it, I was about to the moment I read it. Why? ....because it was very "douchy" in the way it was delivered. Not because I need to be educated on the advantages of a PC version of the game versus a console version. ...or due to a dissatisfaction of the lack of available mods. ...or that i need to be informed that the option of building your own PC exists.. blah blah blah blah.... It was just a douchy, arogant comment that wasn't necessary. Period.

There are usually read me files that come with the .zip or .rar. file that explain where to extract the files(s). Most of the time it is an .esp file that the mod is formatted in, In that case you would extract the .esp file into you "Data" folder, which should be C: > Program Files (x86) > Valve > Steam > SteamApps > Common > Fallout New Vegas > Data. When you start the launcher, click on the "Data Files" button and select the mod(s) that you installed to play the game with them. :wavey:
