This is why The Major Console Companies are Skeptical About

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 3:29 am

My guess:

1. Technical liability. Allowing any old mod is going to start causing people odd problems with their games left and right...who do you think they're going to call?

2. Content liability. Kid downloads nudie mods for Oblivion. Parents are mad at MS/Sony about making the content available

Basically, MS and Sony would have to dedicate staff to approving mods, and that would be expensive while still not ruling out support issues. I understand why they don't want to do it.

True but Xbox live isn't free. Unless...

By that logic this site isn't free either because neither is your internet access.

I find it curious that the media seem to have an almost deliberate ignorance of technology & how it works, especially when it comes to video games.

with developers it's not always about money. but publishers and platform makers it always is (they aren't the artists). the end result....this is not too far fetched.

Well....they do it less anyway.

Well, I know the actual reasons why people hate Fox.

1. They are conservative right wing.

2. They are the HIGHEST RATED news network.

People make up these, "Oh, they spew propaganda," to hide the fact that they hate them because they are Right Wing. By the way, MSNBC spews propaganda on the left wing, and they get no flak!! None! What the [censored] is this? If Fox gets flak for being biased toward the right, then why doesn't MSNBC get flak for being biased toward the left? My head is spinning.

So we are just lucky in the case of Bethesda? :celebrate:

What do you mean? We're never getting mods, at least not during the 360 generation.

Strange. I dislike Fox because they take sensational headlines, don't check the information, and intentionally sell the story on that sensational inaccurate information.

Did you play the [censored] simulator game that let you have six with all the other characters, full frontal nudity, and other stuff like that? According to Fox, if you played Mass Effect, you did. They even had an expert commentator to explain how bad it was. Of course, this expert hadn't even seen the game being played, let alone played it herself. Later, after the rather vocal gaming people flooded their servers, called them on the bs on several websites, and downrated her book on Amazon, she admitted she had never even seen the game when she did the news story; someone had played through the love scene between femShep and Liara for her since then, and she was shocked to find out that "six simulator" was tamer than a lot of programs on commercial television. But of course Fox never really admitted to screwing up the story. They got attention, they got publicity, it was cool for them.

I don't really pay attention to msnbc, but I don't recall ever seeing a story like that.

I would really stay away from political topics; they aren't permitted on the forums.

Bias media, its where the profits are at. The only good news would be from a neutral, independent, impartial media. honestly I think more people would be in the middle without external pressures and the like. The right is far too ignorant and the left is way too smug.

Then you just called me ignorant, thank you good sir. Before I became a conservative, I checked all the facts.

I called the parties that, although partisanship is ignorant for the most part. Making your mind up on a subject before you even hear it out etc. The far left is just as bad as the far right and vice verse.

Probably not, since two mods were in here and didnt lock it, and one even commented on the off topic subject, but you are right, we should stick to the subject of console mods.

I just can't see mods being allowed on the current gen consoles (at least with Beth's games) because IMHO it may highlight the consoles weaknesses.

This, not too mention staff support required to screen the mods would be rather expensive.

Anyways, back to the video, thats really [censored] hilarious.

Because he wants to watch something that can pass for news rather than just blatant propaganda.

Then he shouldn't be watching CNN. Cause, you know...

You should go to BBC for real news anyways. They don't follow meaningless non-stories like this to monger fear to generate ratings.

Consoles already have mods, it's called DLC and perhaps what Todd meant was that he wanted to bring user created DLC to consoles....not free either. Also, this video had nothing to do with mods.

snip

I have to agree. I certainly have no issue with anyone's political leanings (most of my best friends don't share mine). However, while all (IMO) news networks are biased, I find Fox to be the most deliberately misleading and sensationalist by a wide margin. There's nothing wrong with being conservative (most of my family is), but some of the programs that air on Fox News skate the line between being biased and outright lying. Not cool.

fear of hacking is not a valid reason to be skeptical of modding. PC games that have alot of modding don't have this issue, so if hacking like that were an issue for console's in context to modding the blame would be placed upon bad business model/practice on the console companies part.

I prefer CNN: seems a lot less biased and sensationalist. And if nothing else it isn't so bloody miserable!
