thats just the news being pariod. Just like saying don't go on the internet for the same reason. I think its mostly to do with crouption dew to the certain mods and virus mods, which consles just wouldn't handle with no firewall being about.

True but It seems more appropriate here right now because Todd got the console junkies all riled up about mods when people are doing dumb stuff like this.

I have only one question:

Why in the hell are you watching CNN and not Fox?

On topic, well, I having nothing to say really.

I wasn't to excited about mods on consoles when I first heard about it, the only ones I'd use would be bug fixes and "total conversions"

I fail to see what a false home invasion report has to do with some fifteen year old's Xbox, unless "hacking" it meant figuring out his home address from his info, be it a credit card or his account info or simply an IP address. Either way it's not really news and it has nothing to do with video game mods in any capacity.

Because he wants to watch something that can pass for news rather than just blatant propaganda.

You should go to BBC for real news anyways. They don't follow meaningless non-stories like this to monger fear to generate ratings.

The major reason companies dont want mods on consoles: Because why give them free stuff when you can charge them?

Yeah, it's just like using a web browser. Don't talk to strangers and give them your personal information. This really has nothing to do with mods. I think it's funny how they don't give us any information on how it was hacked, just Xbox 360 + Internet = BAD. They don't know anything or they probably have some weird agenda against Microsoft.

Think about what you said just there...

HACKERS HACK XBOX WITH HACKERS ON STEROID HACKERS SKILLS, SENDING POLICE TO HOME WITH HOME! HACKERS! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACKERSSSSSSSSSS!

No, seriously, it's very tenuously associated with video games at all. They could have hacked his Facebook account and you'd have not even the flimsy justification you have now to post it here. It's got nothing to do with distributing user-made mods, and even your title's not accurate. Sony has no problem with making user-made mods available on their system. Unreal Tournament 3 is the only evidence you need of that. The company that's in the way is Microsoft, because they don't allow any free content on Xbox Live.

That video has nothing to do with mods on consoles. Todd Howard has already said their concern with adding mods to consoles is that they can do it in a way that is safe (ie: not corrupting old save files or breaking the game)

This is true, though Sony did allow a crap load of free mod content for UT3 while M$ did not. Todd probably wants it to be as close as what you can get on the PC though im sure there would be some screenings for whatever would be allowed on the consoles if this is allowed.

I fear though that the two companies in question would not allow the content unless people are charged for it in some way shape or form and that would hinder any attempts at this by alot.

It would probably be a payed update to get the ability to get mods, but after that they are free. Because the companies probly know that if they charge per mod, no one will get them, just because of the amount alot of people would like to use.

This doesn't have anything to do with mods.

Console companies are far more concerned with what they (or social power elements) deem "inappropriate" content from mods than this.

"You don't know who you're talking to on those games..." Yes, and you don't know who you're really talking to when you talk to someone face to face, either, at least until you know them for a long time (and sometimes, not even then).

Sure, security is an issue, but not only online. It's just as much of an issue for face to face, physical interactions.

Because Fox (not me) blames every murder on the gaming population (US!!!).
