Ok this will sound weird, but....

I`m probably gonna get a load of ribbing after this, but do I care? NO!

Have you actually ever held your breath in real life when swimming underwtaer in game?

I do. All the time. I think I started this with Morrowind. Maybe it was because I saw it as a good way to exercise my lungs for real swimming.

Most of the time it teaches me to watch for a route back before I start or to carry some water breathing potions (then I can breath).

Kind of a pain when your character drowns though.

Yes I do. it is not that wierd.

You ever turn your body when playing a game and something requires your character to turn like snow boarding or racing etc etc. Same concept I believe.

I don't want to be reminded that my character has better cardiovascular conditioning than I do.

I can't say I hold my breath under water but I do when I zoom in view and try and get a touch longshot with the bow (xbox with no crosshairs)

also I occasionally shout/scream when a spider sneaks up on me and I turn to see it jumping at me in a dark cave (I wear turtle beach headphones) so the sound does it... silence and then spider knee's cracking and then that squeel .... *shudders* screw that! hate it... but love it.. brrr *shivvers*

Interesting, I forgot that it was probably a natural reaction that may have just caught on to me doing it all the time conscously.

Well, I guess I really aren`t the only one then.

Shout and scream. No I never do anything that obvious, although I did actually dodge to an axe coming for my head (in 1st person you do that a lot).

Nothing strange about holding bretah as character is underwater - you'll probably find a lot of / most players do it at least some times. Some folk will even do the little sigh / exhale followed by 'did I really just hold my own breath because my toon was underwater?' routine followed by a secondary reality check!

My favourite 'trick' though is catching myself physically trying to look up to what is above my character and off screen! When this happens, I sharply return my view to my monitors and exclaim a loud "DOH!" then use my (PC) mouse to change the on screen view! :)

slow exhale is necessary, because the oxygen you breathed in has been made into carbon dioxide and your lungs fill with that as the oxygen is used up through respiration... an instinctual thing to do, is breath out during a long breath because your body starts trying to use the dioxide and realises that is not what it needs to function

nice I have dodged an axe or two... same as I leaning when I get vertigo looking over the edge of a cliff at a big drop (fallen tree across waterfall in eastmarch) apart from the over-confident bandit in the middle... looking down sometimes does make my head go :s

I find myself doing that sometimes, just like I breath shallowly when I sneak or listen to my heart beat when I snipe an enemy with my bow.

Lol. When looking over a very deep cliff or building I find myself automatically placing both feet on the floor!

I also take deep slow breaths before diving (to saturate the body) before one long breath. Some of the most nerve-wracking times I`ve had is when trying to open a lock under water since you have to be patient and careful at the same time as holding your breath. I have to remember to come up several times before I manage to open the lock!

My character never seems to hold his breath as long as I can, but then I consider that he`s physically having to swim too while I`m just sat down.

For movies, because I want to roughly know if the scene is realistic or if the character supposed to be aquaman.

Not for skyrim because I always have water breathing potions if needed.

I can manage 2 mins on a good day, not that fit, skinny. Dunno why, but it seems odd how in games (I'm thinking about call of duty and battlefield) a trained soldier can't run for more than 10 seconds, when in reality they're pushed to run 10 miles with 30kg in weight.

There's a guy on these forums who plays on a treadmill-- when his character walks, he walks. When his character runs... you get the idea. So no, holding your breath isn't weird.

I can proudly say that there has never been a video-game character that has been able to hold their breath longer than me, well, besides Argonians.

I'd like to see what you would do if someone railed you in Quake III.

I`m a UT fan myself. You should`ve seen what happened if I got killed by a ripper...
