A Thread for the Uber Ones

If uber is not your way of playing Skyrim, join us in playing a permanent level-one character.

Start a new character. You cannot level up. No assigning health, mana, or stamina.

That also mean no perks.

You can do some smithing and enchanting, but not very much.

You live of the land mostly as far as upgrading armor, weapons, etc., is concerned. You do need to make some money, for buying new stuff, but I'm keeping the money right around 16K. No looting dungeons of every item you can find - I put this limit on myself because I'm a dungeon looter and don't want to do this on this character.

Other limitations you can impose on yourself as you want.

But with no leveling up and not using perks, you already have limited yourself quite a bit.

Good luck.

I play on Master with a fairly stacked character. Nothing truly "uber." The weaker enemies I can tear apart, the stronger ones take effort and can kill me very quickly if I'm not careful. I enjoy it very much. Deadly Dragon is great, too.

Currently I'm running around in full Blades armor + Otar, even though I have a full set of unmodified ebony armor in a chest in my house. Waiting for 100 enchanting to switch to Ebony, and I never intend to use Daedric. Ebony looks way better

I also don't max out sneaking. I like Assassin's Blade and the other sneak perks, but I will not put more than one point in the % boost. I'm playing with double perks per level, and even I feel like max sneak is lame!

I love my character feeling as weak as he/she was at the start of the game, and having to spend 10 minutes killing something without making a mistake is a lot of fun for me. I can take hours trying to kill a boss and it's much a great feeling of achievement when I finally take them down. I don't like to be uber because it does not feel very rewarding when you kill something, it's almost a chore to have to attack.

I'll make my character uber if it fits my current roleplay (as is the case currently). He's an ancient vampire, he should be extremely strong and fast. And yeah, I still roleplay as much as any self-proclaimed "hardcoe" aficionado out there. Changing things like attack speed and combat health regen via the console add quite a bit to immersion, as my ancient vampire should have both of those things. Using mods that ramp up the difficulty help quite a bit as well.

Uber? no thanks!

My high lvl nord still runs around in one of the lowest AR sets in game - fur. Weapon wise he uses a steel battleaxe and sometimes dwarven greatsword. He has no ranged weapons at all and no shouts as I didn`t start off the main quest this time around, so no Dragons. It`s so much more challenging and actually revitalised the game for me.

One-shotting everything and being a virtual tank in enchanted daedric armor just doesn`t appeal to me at all.

What are the benefits of uber? Off the top of my head:
  • It lets me carry on quickly.
  • Travelling becomes saver.
  • Fighting turns from a challenge to an entertainment.
  • I can let my follower do the fighting when I feel lazy.
  • It feels like an achievement (but it is gained a bit too easy, imo).
  • Retiring a character does not leave me with the feeling that the character is undone.
  • Requires less attention to play and real-life does not feel like a "disturbance".

I am not a very good fps-action gamer, so I need a bit of edge to my character, for me the diificulty at adept level scales quite well to my approach and I don't need to gimp or impose restrictions on my character to keep that aspect of the game alive.

And don't tell me you don't feel at least a little satisfaction when you step into a bandit fort, decked out in fully enchanted ebony armor with a huge flaming greatsword and go:
"Allright, WHO stole my sweetroll?"

I find it satisfying to have a strong character after 100+hrs of game play. It gives a sense of accomplishment. Unlike Oblivion...

Isn't that oxymoronical? (That's probably not a word)

If you're uber, then you are very strong, thus able to kill stuff easy. You expect the game to challenge you, while you can kill everything with a swat of the hand?

Nope, because if I am uber, I expect some things to be godly. Godly > uber.

No I must pass. I find certain perks to add to my experience of the game. For example, I'm RP-ing an Alik'r warrior who is a master at one-handed combat and pretty good at sneaking, so I invest perks exclusively in these skill-trees. I simply cannot pass up on the decapitation perk as it is so satisfying. Instead I make sure I am nothing near "uber" in other ways; I only wear redguard clothes, only carry the bare minimum (torch, lockpicks, weapon and apparel), I use my scimitar exclusively, I don't use magic, scrolls, potions or other forms of self-boosting, any crafting is totally out. I also make sure I don't abuse the economy because I only loot items I could logically carry like soul gems and precious jewels, so I'm not going to pick up the enchanted ebony cuirass at the end of the dungeon. How can I possibly resist? It's all a state of mind. I say to myself "I am getting by fine without that armor/weapon, so I don't need it" and "I could sell it but I don't need the money for anything" (can't remember the last time I spent a septim on anything other than food and board). At this point the item becomes totally irrelevant and my Alik'r moves on with his mission of sabotaging Thalmor.
