Timetable for 2nd DLC Announcement

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:48 pm

I'd imagine we're getting pretty close if there really is 5 planned.
Could anyone think back to how long the gap between DLCs was when FO3 was out?
I thought we'd be getting an announcement for it perhaps mid January with a release in early to mid February.

Mid Jan is too early, think Febuary.

I could see that yeah, but I'm kind of curious as to how long it took for all the DLC's to be released in Fallout 3 then, as my next question.

It seems like we're on pace to go almost a full year before all the DLCs are finally released.

Which I suppose is a good thing..

Nah, I expect ten months for every DLC (Which I believe will be six DLC.) to be released, but then again..

Well the Fallout 3 DLCs had a two-month delay between each of them. Operation: Anchorage came out in January, but The Pitt didn't come out till March. The only DLC that had a one-month delay was Point Lookout, which came out only a month after Broken Steel (BS came out in May, PL came out in June).

So I'd expect late January to be the announcement of the 2nd NV DLC, and February to be the release date. Probably mid-Feb.

Expected Timetable (DLCs may trade places):
February 21st - The Lonesome Road
April 21st - Old World Blues
July 21st - Honest Hearts
September 21st - 6th unknown, final DLC
November 11th - TES V Released

I think they don't care about Half-Life anymore.
TF2 and Portal are their new babies and they don't really give a crap about any of the other franchises they have, it even seems like they consider it a chore to care about L4D or HL.

You do know that Portal is in the Half-life universe, and that Chell (The main character) is going to appear in Half-life 3?

This.

Portal 2 maybe have some hints, and HL2 EP3 wasnt announced, but the Valve said that they had it in mind

If someday they really doesnt give a stuff about HL, then that day must be the fall of Valve

I think this is too optimistic - what your not factoring into this equation is the fact that Bethesda had 2 different entire teams making DLCs. The reason they could announce/release them only months apart is because Team 1 worked the Op. Anchorage, then likely Broken Steel while Team 2 made the Pitt then Point Lookout (or something like that). There may even have been 3 teams at play - Bethesda has a much Much larger staff than Obsidian.

That said, I don't think we will be getting 5 DLCs the way we did with Fallout 3 - and the first being exclusive means we are in a new world for DLCs. There may be fewer of them, and more of them may be exclusive from New Vegas - so I would not get my hopes up. This may be the Only DLC for New Vegas for all we know. At best though with one team, its going to be 4-6 months between DLCs IMHO.

That's really naive of you to think there will be less DLC's or no more made at all. It's all about the money. They could make more money of the DLC's than the game itself and although they may be a smaller team, the basic structure of the game is there, they only have to add more quests and design a little (by Fallout standards) map. You get just a single person throwing together quests and maps with the G.E.C.K who have next to no experience or training and they aren't getting paid to do it. Put a team together and it doesn't take nearly as much time as you think to spew out little episodes for big bucks.
The chances are a couple of the DLC's were made before the game was even released.

This is a great chance for them to milk as much out of this game as possible and don't think for a second they won't make the most of it.

I think the 1st week of February there will be an announcement about the next DLC. I'm gonna dig a bunker because I'll probably need it if the next DLC is XBox 360 Exclusive.

Actually, I did not know that.
Still, they said they were going to do an Episode 3 right?
And they said that before they announced Portal 2 right?

Not wishing to turn this into a HL2/3 thread, but:
There was an interview with Gabe Newell on gametrailers a few months ago, and he was asked if Episode 3 was so big it had turned into HL 3 - he laughed and refused to comment. He also said that they were still working on HL in response to a question asking if they'd abandoned it - 'of course not'.
Mind you, in the same interview he said Valve weren't doing anything with the PS3 - 'not in any serious way, no'.
And didn't he say more recently that he thinks HL needs to be scarier?

Ah, thanks for the info.
I'm rarely up to date with games other than Fallout, Skyrim and L4d.

Really, only 2 months or so between DLC releases?

Interesting proposition.. seems a little soon to me, but I'm only used to getting DLC for Call of Duty games prior to Fallout, and COD's usually take a good 3 maybe even 4 months between each other.

A shortened period of two months for an even more addictive game sounds nice.. :disguise:
