Torchlight

I'd be playing a hell of a lot more games if they didn't all have that stupid WoW look.

Not to mention the fact that Torchlight 2 is going to be very moddable, doesn't require an internet connection for single player, and is a lot cheaper as well.
This. That and the RealID thing (I know it's been lessened, but I can't stand where Activison/Blizzard seems to be headed).

Torchlight was kinda fun for a while. But it lacked that certain something that Diablo had that kept it interesting. Each new level felt like the same blah blah blah in Torchlight.
But also this.
I originally played quite a bit of Fate (the precursor to Torchlight). It was a lot simpler than Torchlight but still a lot of light action fun. Torchlight added more Diablo like town, quests and some gameplay enhancements but gameplay was fairly similar. Anyway....neither game quite had the same longevity appeal Diablo1 and Diablo2 had, for me. But still a good game. I may try TL2 when it comes out.

Gameplay video from PAX

The first act of Torchlight 2 is longer than all of the first game, at roughly 7 hours.

I'm looking forward to Torchlight 2 more than Diablo 3. I liked the first Torchlight, but the lack of a co-op component was a huge flaw for me.

for me Diablo 3 isn't even on my radar but every so often I find myself checking Amazon to see if they have TL2 listed for order or pre-order

So will T2 finally not be just like FATE and every previous ARPG they've made, but with a couple minor changes?

(In general - yes, I enjoyed Torchlight. And I'm looking forward to T2. Don't really see it as direct competition with D3, though. Yes, they're in the same general genre, but..... Don't feel the need to pick one over the other, and I'm sure I'll end up playing both of them eventually.)

Torchlight 2 can now be http://store.steampowered.com/app/200710/. It's $20/€18.99. If you pre-order you get the original Torchlight for free immediately, which can also be gifted to a friend.

And as promised, the system requirements are very modest.

    • Processor: x86-compatible 1.4GHz or faster processor
    • Memory: 1GB System RAM
    • Hard Disk Space: 1.2GB free space (subject to change)
    • Video Card: DirectX compatible 3D graphics card with at least 256MB of addressable memory.
    • DirectX?: 9.0c

I like the look of the new pets & the overall style seems to suit the game IMHO

I have started to look a bit into it lately(never played the first one) and it looks promising. It is not unlikely I buy it, though not on release.

Perhaps I'm seeing it colored by my personal thoughts, but does...

Multiplayer - Play co-op with your friends via LAN or over the Internet for free. No subscriptions, no item sales. Our new matchmaking service lets you find friends, start new games, and join existing games. And, as always, you can play single-player offline as well.

...seem like it has a great big "Unlike Diablo 3" all over it, to you too?

From what little I've seen, this could finally be the version of this game/engine that keeps me playing for longer than a month or so. I liked Fate, thought Torchlight was ok....but with the new features (not just the MP stuff either) it sounds a lot more replayable/interesting this time around. I'll definitely be checking it out.
