Ice mages are overpowered, yet people also say destruction is uselessly weak. Strange world!

Smithing itself is certainly not overpowered; I have a smithing skill in the mid-eighties and it's allowed me to use steel plate to level 35 without either being indestructible or have a glass jaw. I agree that you'll have more fun if you're out there in the world doing stuff, however.

My advice is just to go see stuff. Wander the world and try things out. Skyrim's really pretty cool.

Don't listen to anyone here. Go with what you feel.

There are no classes in this game like in WoW, you can be whatever you want and your skills in that area will improve the more you do it e.g. use swords to get better at using swords, use magic to get better at using magic etc. Don't grind anything and don't treat it like an MMO, its not supposed to be played as one.

Hi,

Here are my tips:

1. Do not power level, grind or use exploits as this will rapidly unbalance the game.
2. Exploration is king in Skyrim: the more you explore the more you find.
3. Notice how you're playing the game. Using lots of Magic? Then pump magic perks. But think about your play style.
4. Above all else have fun. It's a single player sandbox game so there is no competition and no correct way to play this game.

Enjoy!

Best advice is first off don't try and just grind levels. It isn't an MMO type situation. Just play and immerse yourself in the world. Do some quests and explore, just have fun with it.

yeah sorry I really should have checked the races before I posted that , thanks again for all the help...nice to see the forums are helpful. Makes a change from all the haters Wow has spawned over the previous number of years...Still play wow and there's quite a few that are playing Skyrim from what I can tell so start getting alarms on those houses ppl

thanks again

Welcome to the forums. In my case, I'm the opposite of you. This year I played my first MMORPG. Is LOTRO and to tell you the truth, it kind of spoiled my experience with Skyrim. Lotro game world is massive and they have very impressive gameplay mechanics that I wish Skyrim had. The average age group for LOTRO is about 27 according to a veteran forum moderator. I feel right at home in lotro; most of the time folks are very mature in nature.
