So you got it for a console? Your first mistake.

you can find all the racial bonuses here:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Races

But it doesn't really matter that much, just pick whatever you want and play however you want, your character is going to progress exactly the way you want it to pretty much automatically.

how does that indicate he got it for console? He's obviously talking about the forum, and even if he wasn't, you still need to log on to steam to play.

Character min/maxing is not required for a game like this, unlike WoW.

One thing I think you will need to get used to is having to aim. You won't have an ability to just auto "target" something and spam attacks. You will have to manually target and spam attacks!

Don't rush the game. Take your time to learn and appreciate it.

That's all the advice you'll need.

wow, I think TES games are best on consoles on my first playthrough. Sure PC players got mods, but not many now is it? (NOPE) I'll buy Skyrim for pc later, but I still think consoles is the best way to play a rpg, imo. No need to bash others for their opinion, PC elite

...

I'd rather even say min-maxing should be avoided as much as possible,it just breaks the game and makes it less fun. Try playing around a bit, go with what feels fun and then set the difficulty level according to that, you'll most likely have to change it along the way as well to keep it challenging. Races are mainly cosmetic as well, so go with what feels interesting ^^

I'd also recommend staying away from Smithing and maybe also enchanting for your first character, they aren't that greatly balanced and it sort of takes the fun out of finding loot and makes the you a bit too powerful if not used in moderation.

Of which only 10% are good. So 386 mods are worth downloading, at the moment.

And that number is already outdated. Watch http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/ page to keep up to date - and remember, this is BEFORE the Creation Kit is released.

I mean....that is still a HUGE amount.

And wait until the creation kit comes out. People will be able to effectively create entire new games using the engine. Look what happened with Morrowind/Oblivion.

You'll have a great time if you just go into the world and live in it. Just go in there and be somebody. Talk to people, help them or don't, just do things in the world and see where it leads you and what your story is. The weapons, skills, achievements, etc., all of that will come. Have a great time!

Addendum: Oops, forgot about OP.

OP, on your first run, I suggest you just play the game without trying to figure out the ins and outs of the mechanics. Skyrim was created in such a way that you create your character through action rather than choice. So if you get into a lot of melee combat, you'll level up your weapons and armour; if you use a lot of magic, your magic will level; etc.

Just start the game up and follow the story and your whims. Forget about gaming the system and min/maxing your character at least until level 25.

You'll be doing yourself a huge favour.

I mean....that is still a HUGE amount.

Oh ja, it's definitely a good amount; I didn't mean otherwise. And a good portion of that 10% significantly improves/alters the game.

Quality over quantity.

Welcome! Just want to say, in this game, the race you chose at the beginning won't affect you too much later on in the game. Sure, you'll have some +5 and +10 skill bonuses, but those are easy enough to overcome with other skills. Just pick what race you want and play as you want to play. Joining one (or more) of the four guilds may help you earn some money. There's a warriors guild (the Companions), mages guild (College of Winterhold), thieves guild, and assassin's guild (Dark Brotherhood).

Finding any of them shouldn't be too hard.

if you want to be a mage, the Altmer are good since they have extra magic. For an assassin the Khajiit or Argonians are good i hear. I usually go Dumner just because i dont like looking like a cat or lizard. For warrior i guess Orc or Redguard. But really it doesnt matter which you choose. If you dont like how one looks then even if he starts out slightly better i wouldnt choose him because the other races can quickly catch up and with them you'll be playing something you like. Since this is your first time playing i'd suggest going on a lower difficulty than Master. Don't just powerlevel enchanting and smithing becuase then you get overpowered much too quickly and it ends up boring. Lets see what else, dunno, just have fun and try stuff out until you find something you like. The beauty of this game is you can do pretty much anything you like until you die . Oh and make good use of the quicksave feature (F5).

Don't do many quests at first, just explore so you have locations on your map. Don't go in many caves/towers so that the level doesn't get set at low levels. Save exploring inside for later unless required for a quest. Don't do quests quickly. Spend most of your time just wandering. You can build up enough cash by random ecounters or fighting outside of forts. Unenchant the low level enchanted items you find at first so that later if you want to enchant you'll know some spells. I know they are worth money but learning the spells is more useful and you can get enough money selling unenchanted items or those you already know. Buy the house at Whiterun. It is easy and cheap to get and fairly central to the map and you need somewhere to store loot. Play the game slowly, don't rush, just experience and enjoy.

Many, many WOW players turn up here saying the game is too easy, because they ground Smithing and Enchanting up to max at low level. Try not to grind, and if possible don't take both. This is a sandbox game which has to cater to all playstyles, and there is no competition with other players.

I also would recommend to stay away from tradeskills altogether. It's too easy to ruin your experience by making yourself over-powered. Sure, you can avoid doing that, but if you simply just don't do tradeskills (especially smithing and enchanting), you'll never even have a temptation to do so.

You might consider making a commitment to only use gear that you find, making money only by K/L/S (kill, loot, sell), and not using fast travel. Note that I personally do use fast travel, but those times I didn't, I found that I really enjoyed the trip, and I always vow to use it less often, each time I try it.

The most important thing to remember is that there's no rush. There's so much to this game that is easy to miss if you try to rush through, get the best gear too soon, or skip stuff that's not relevant to the main quest.

Just remember that in Soviet Skyrim, The best gears comes from 'Crafting' instead of 'Raiding'.
