Troll in early game. Bug or just luck?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 9:45 pm

Skyrim wasn't starting anymore so I reinstalled it. When I loaded a recently played savegame and was just running towards Whiterun a Troll came my way. A Troll!
What does he do here? I'm level 1, he knocked me the f out with one punch so I don't think he belongs there.

Bad luck. Ran into an ice troll about level 4 when I went high enough. They're out there...

Luck. Bethesda heard too many complaints about Level Scaling in Oblivion making it too easy at lower levels, and fixed it.

Trolls are present in the game world starting from level 1.
Was this an ice troll or a normal troll?
If it was an ice troll it could possible have wandered from the ruined tower east of Whiterun.

Just a random Mob spawn point getting the best of you. Yes, there really shouldn't be a Troll right of the gate like that. Only advice, run and stay running till you get guards to help you. I fought a Frost troll with Farkas, Level 7 and barely won. Even if I used him as a meat shield.

You see those things behind the Troll in the screenshot? Those are mountains and the higher up you go in the mountains, the tougher the enemies are. So, yes you can met up with a Troll at Level 1 if you go up in the mountains. The game has a path to get you to Whiterun from Riverwood that keeps you down low so all you have to do is deal with Wolves and maybe a Bear or two. If you take any of the shortcuts over the mountains, then a troll will come to collect the toll.

They fixed it between games, not in a Skyrim patch. People who continue to whine about Level Scaling (Especially those that bring up OOO as "Better", despite Skyrim using that system anyway), are merely talking out their ass.

@CCNA He actually spawned right after I crossed the bridge in Riverwood, I didn't walk up to Hrothgar.

He probably chased something or someone to get there. Like CCNA said, bad things lurk in the mountains.

Bad troll, bad.

If you look at the pic it's not mountain. It's first turn after the bridge.

Hrothgar is not the only mountain in the game, it is just the highest one.

However, Random Spawns are just that, Random. While a Troll is rare at low levels, it is not unexpected either. This is not the first thread I have seen on a Troll outside of Riverwood. Also, that is a relatively low level Troll, so it makes sense that it might come up at a lower level.

@CCNA Accept that he pretty much punched everyone out ina breeze and didn't took any dmg at all! It actually compares to those frost trolls you see up in the mountains who you may have a chance against when you're in your 20's.

But i sure was creeped out having it jumping out of a bush. Totally done for today, DONE.

Is that near the river / waterfall? If so, that's a troll spawn point. I encountered my first troll there at very low level as well.

i've seen things like the spriggan matrons and frost trolls at less than level 10 so yeah, it's just random bad luck, which is good, makes exploring more dangerous..

I believe there are some locations where Trolls or Frost Trolls always spawn. I won't mention them for fear of spoilers.

That said I've never seen a Troll near the roads around Riverwood and Whiterun. At any level, and certainly not level 1. So maybe it was just (bad) luck.

That looks just like the regular tolls in my game. Frost Trolls look a bit different, mostly due to the white fur.
