Unbalanced Game And Other Comments.

Post » Sun Jul 03, 2011 1:06 pm

I have concluded something about FNV.

It ia awesome game. But it is unbalanced in in factions.
As in. They made the militery oppositon to the NCR so freaking horrific and vile, that they ruined that part of the game.

When I first got it, I though I could choose a interesting or at least lucrative evil option at the end.

But instead of a evil militery enemy you might want to side with, they made Caesers Legion.
A enemy that is so vile, disgusting, beyond evil, freaking sixist, and completely phychopathic and sociopathic, that no sane or sensible person would EVER side with them!
They don't even benefit the EVIL groups and factions!

They literally have no redeeming features AT ALL! They a r'nt interesting, they ar'nt even lucrative! They are completely insane!

In Fallout 3, every single faction or group apart from all the idiots in the Pitt dlc, that I don't count anyway, had something that was interesting or lucrative about them.
Brotherhood Of Steel. They're cool.
Brotherhood Of Steel Exiles. Bad, but cool also. Not completely evil, just very, very predjudiced.
Encalve. Absolutely vile. But they have vertibirds and a huge base. So something to look at at least. President Eden means the best for the race as a whole, his plan is just completely evil and insane.
Paradise Falls Slavers. Evil, but cool to be around when you are evil, very lucrative when you enslave people. If it is only the money from slavering, there is a good reason to work with them.
Tenpenny Tower. Cool, pays well, makes a cool explosion when you blow up Megaton. Gives you a nice place to live.

Basically, theres a reason for most of them to be worked with. Theres something about them that would make you want to work with most of them.
I don't count ANYTHING to do with The Pitt. They are all worthless idiots.

But FNV.

NCR. A militery faction, not perfect but they are aiming for the right things. No place will be harmed if they control it. Mainly good, aiming for peace and conquest.
Mr House. Main goal control and and money. But not so repellant you would'nt want to to work with him. Lucrative.
Independance with you. The best option for endings.
Great Khans. Scary and brutal but in no way completely unpleasant. Interesting. Definately powerful. Papa Khan cares about his people and wants glory for them. They get a happy ending when you tell them to make their own glory. They reconnect with the Followers Of The Apocolypse and make a a great and powerful empire. Good for them. They get one of the happiest endings of the lot when they pursue their own glory.
The Kings. For a gang leader, The King is a decent guy. He wants respect for all. He wants to clean up Freeside. Good for him.
The Omertas. Obviously a evil gang but once Cachino is in control not anarchistic.
The White Glove Society. Slightly creepy but otherwise ok.
The Followers Of The Apocolype. Good people. With some dubious methods sometimes, but 99 percent good.
The Chairmen. Fair enough gang. Once Benny is dead, a lot better.
The Brotherhood Of Steel. Good, a bit predjudiced but cool.
The Powder Gangers. The most anarchistic of the lot but you can sympathise with them, considering they were treated like slaves rather than prisoners. The leader, Sam Cooke, a ok guy.
Boomers. Aside from the vault suits, they are awesome. :)

They is a reason to work with all of them. They are either good, interesting, or lucrative. There is something worth bothering with in all of them.

Apart from Caesers Legion. They make no sense. They are completly insane, phychopathic, sociopahic and beyond evil.
They are the enemy of of every single faction and group in the game.
They ar'nt lucrative. They most definately ar'nt interesting.
Caeser is a spoilt, childish, phychopathic, sociopathic, completely and utterly insane, f**ing sixist, b***tard who is beyond evil and any sanity.
He just cherry picked stuff he liked from Roman culture, ignoring that Romans were very, very sixist but not as bad as him, thats a feat. Romans had female gladiaters. He does'nt want females to be anything other than slaves or officers wives. That is obscene and beyond vile.
In a world were sixes are completely equal. He is a obscene travesty of a creature.
He does'nt even have a proper plan for the conquered lands.
CL ar'nt a enemy you would ever want to ally with. They are more like a ravening hoard of monsters from a game were you fight a horrific never ending hoard of monsters as the hero. Not something you would ever choose to side or work with!

It ruins that part of the game. Even the cretinous, vile, horrible, stupid, hypocrite Ashur in The PItt dlc in Fallout 3 had a proper plan.

Why did'nt they make a proper enemy that MADE SENSE AND YOU WOULD WANT TO WORK OR SIDE WITH! A proper militery enemy to oppose the NCR, that actually had something interesting, lucrative or redeemable about them!

A militerised Great Khans. That could have been ok. Or a tribal warlord that is brutal but interesting or even charming that wants to combine the tribes to make the area better and retain independance from the NCR. A ex prisoner like Sam Cooke who hates the NCR because of some of their brutal methods and has got a army together. A combined force of the the Viper Gang, Jackel Gang and Great Khans working together. With a outside gang leader or a independant leader leading them.
All of those could have worked. If they kept them logical and sensible.
Basically anything would have been better than CL!

CL are the worst enemy that you can choose I have EVER SEEN in any game ever! They make no sense. They destroy every single thing they touch. They are beyond cruel, they destroy any gang or group stupid enough to ally or side with them. They are beyond evil. They do things the most evil of the other groups would'nt do. And the obscene sixism. Why the hell did they make them that f**ing sixist! They made them so foul, evil and horrific that they ruin the parts of the game they are in!

What the hell were the makers thinking when they made them?! You're supossed to WANT to side with evil factions, they've got to have something about them that is interesting, lucrative or even redeemable!
Not so horrific they stink up and ruin the game when they are in it!

Did they actually think that you would want to do anything other than massacre every last one of the CL?!

And anything that is'nt condeming CL is a freaking desperate excuse as far as I am concerned. There is no reason ever that anything they do is'nt pure and utter foul, obscene evil.

They ar'nt even functional evil! A evil faction has to have a logical goal! Something that makes sense beyond pouring as much evil as possible into them!
Something that makes you, as a evil character, want to work with and side with them. You've got to like them!

Being evil is fun on most games. But CL has absolutely nothing that you would want from a evil faction. Theyre not even fun!

They're just a a foul, evil, horrific, cult led by a petulant, childish, phychopahic, sociopathic lunatic, sixist b**tard with no proper plan for conquered lands.

I will NEVER side with CL, in any playthrough, beyond doing the trophies very quickly.

I absolutely and totally HATE CL. I loathe and despise them. I always will.

The makers made a terrible mistake making CL. They ruined part of the game.

Now other things.

There should have been perks at every level like in F3. Instead there is half the perks and 30 levels. They should have made 60 levels and perks every other level. Or 30 levels 30 perks.

The same xp all difficulties. Hmm. Better than F3s diferent xp with each difficulty. Less slow leveling up when you play on lower dificulties. But you level up fast! A bit too fast almost.

No continuing on from the ending.

That is stupid and archaic.
The ending is'nt any freaking diferent from F3! It's exactly the same, slides showing what happened.
There is no reason that Obsideon cannot make a Broken Steel style DLC were you continue on from the end. Theres 4 endings. Thats not hard! Fallout 3 has more than 4! Just make 4 diferent openings for the dlc, set parameters for any descisons you made and alliances you made, get the same game world and voila! A follow on from the ending dlc. Loads of games do it. Games with more than 4 endings.
I think they are making excuses why that have not made a follow on dlc and there is no reason they cannot do it. Bethesda did it.

Hairstyles.

I cannot believe they kept the same freaking hairstyles from F3. Come on! At least make new ones! That's just lazy! There is 3 good hairstyles for female and males. That is it. The rest are just horrible.

So what do you think Obsideon did right or wrong? Put what you think. :)

Some of think it should have been perks every THREE levels like the originals.

Agreed. Levelling should take a lot longer.

No continuing on from the ending.

They announced long before release that it would end.

That is stupid and archaic.

No, it isn't.

The ending is'nt any freaking diferent from F3! It's exactly the same, slides showing what happened.

Really? I don't remember Fallout 3 having three different factions that you could choose to join. Nor do I remember a Purifier and big stompy robot in New Vegas. Also the FO3 ending just told you that you were good or you were evil. New Vegas fills you in on the results of your actions regarding quests, decisions and companions.

They've said they won't do it. And yes, there's four main endings, but there are dozens upon dozens of variables based on decisions, quest outcomes and choices made. They cannot account for all of them within the limtis set by a DLC.

Also name ten games that allow play after the end. And you can't name a Bethesda one. So far no one has managed it.

Also Fallout 3 had one ending basically. The result of whether or not you used the FEV was negligable.

I stopped reading after the first paragraph: you wanted to play evil but felt Caesar's Legion was too evil? What would be just evil enough? In FO3 was the Enclave's goal of mass genocide in the Capital Wasteland by poison evil enough? But not too evil because they were equal opportunity employers and didn't take slaves? Evil should be evil for the purposes of playing evil should it not?

that aside, all four endings in FONV come with a caveat. THe NCR are the democratic, egalitarian force for good but are corrupt bureaucrats and te very embodiment of "big guvment" complete with annexations and heavy taxes

the Legion is safe, secure and peaceful but very brutal and take slaves and treat women like dirt

the Yes Man ending kicks everyone out of the Mojave but leaves every single faction to fend for themselves with no unified management

and Mister House also kicks everyone out of the Mojave while leaving New Vegas under the control of a government albeit one that is completely arbitrary and not based on rule of law but force and the idea that "you can do what you want as long as it doesn't cross the Boss"

it makes for an amazing game playing and story telling experience because the player must truly weight the consequences of their actions when choosing one of the four endings because there simply isn't a true "good Guy ending" or in your case "Bad guy ending" either

eh playing for the Cl factions is the hardest to actually try and get motivated to play but unfortauntly not for any of the reasons that were stated above. the reason is so hard for me to play a CL faction charector is that the couriers this badass but no matter which faction u talk to except for CL they all know that once Ceaser dies, CL will basically fall apart. I just cant get motivated to align myself with a faction that is only gonna last one man's lifetime. Mr House is set up on robotics to where its possible he'll live forever and u get a chance to maybe live forever also. Yesman/Urself u could be a teenager so thats gonna be a helluve lot longer than with CL and with both of mr house/yesman theres soemthign thats gonna survive after u/them gone.....the independence for new vegas with the securitrons.
long story short, cant see a badass align and follow someone whos gonna die soon then the whooe thing was wasted.

Well, like i said in a recent thread, Obisidan failed to show the good side of the Legion, so i'm forced to kill them as the slavers they are.

I support them, I don't think they're "evil", psychopathic or sociopathic.
Does that mean I'm insane and not sensible?

I feel bad when I side with House or NCR and have to kill them. :(

This disappointed me heavelly in FO3. Yes, I want to be a psychopath and see the Wasteland choking to death on the modified FEV. Creeters, mutants, deathclaws, I want to stomp in their corpses!

Instead I sided with the Enclave, unleashed the FEV and after Broken Steel I have to work for the BoS?
WTF!

The fact that you consider Cooke an "OK guy" renders your opinion null in my eyes, if you think Caesar's Legion is worse than Powder Gangers. You are also seem to be ignoring that Caesar's Legion isn't downright evil for the sake of being evil. They are unsavory and have unsavory methods, but siding with them essentially makes for assured stability, something other factions can't provide nearly as well. They probably would have done well to not have prejudice against females (honestly, I see no justification for a woman siding with them), but to say they are don't have any good sides is just plain wrong, and that's not just an opinion.

Now your spoon feeding me bull crap. They are far from peaceful. I wouldnt call Enslaving, Crucifying, and sixist leaders "peaceful" They may be secure but they are just the lowest of scum.

I agree with what the OP said about the CL.

Errr, couldn't be arsed to read that entire post since every paragraph began with something like "I hate CL"...

But at the end of the post, with continuation after the ending, it's not archaic. There are hundreds of games, and I do think that a huge majority (like a really huge one) do end at the ending. As someone else said before me, try to name ten games, no Bethesda games, that let you play after the end. No one's managed to do it so far from what I've seen when we get to that point. Try to name ten games that ends at the ending. Yeah, like stealing babies from candy.

Oh, and another reason. Making post-ending gameplay in Fallout 3 was easy because there was only one ending with a few variations. Either you, Sarah, Fawkes, Charon or that robot activates the purifier, and either you add the FEV or not. Then the ending slides just told about YOU, your character and what his karma was. It didn't tell about the outcome of your actions during the game, what happened to the settlements and characters you helped? The FEV didn't even do what it was supposed to do - kill all the mutants (that is, all humans, animals, ghouls and super mutants) in the Capital Wasteland. And you could only help one out of three major factions through the whole game (I count the super mutants as one major faction, although they are dumb, have no leader and there's no option to interact with them like all the other games.)

Fallout New Vegas had, I believe, 183 different ending sliders that it had to adapt to for post-ending gameplay. Fallout 3 had less than 20 different, I think. Making post-ending gameplay for FNV would equal a sequel. Also, it's not Fallout tradition to make the ending sliders obsolete (except for F3?). I guess they could have post-ending gameplay in future Fallouts if they remove that very big part of the Fallout franchise.

Myself I don't think they got much wrong, it was a matter of choice, consequences and how far you dug into the factions past and future actions.
However they did not give as indepth a view as I would have liked, but the major factions were not the real focus, the Mojave was imo.

Only thing I disliked was the very linear ending, no matter the faction it was a fight, it was the dam, it was just too damn linear and forced on the player t be the "hero".
If one faction existed or at least had an out, where you could just say "screw it, I'm off into the sunset let you lot wipe each other out." it would have been fun.
Or even all the tribes and minor mojave factions forming up and becoming new powers to themselves.

The three ( and a bit ) similar endings just felt anti climatic to me.

The first post was a bit of a rant but I agree that CL is too cartoonishly evil. I'd prefer them to have the more ambiguity and for all but a few minor factions to allow the player to be as evil as they wanted to be as long as they got the job done.

W/out Beth games, I'm not sure I could name 10 off the top of my head, but the Might & Magic series let you play after the end-game was over. I don't recall if every single one did, but I think at least the later ones did (6-9?). I don't think they really altered the world much, however.

...and that's not to say I support continue-game for FNV. I don't. But I'm fairly certain you could, with some thinking, come up with far more than 10 that did allow it..altho probably not all top-tier AA releases or whatever they call the big-name releases now.

The few games I know you can do it with usually have play after end to make it easier to flog DLC to people who had the game since day one.

Dragon Quest = Complete game. All vanilla quests locked off. DLC quests still availiable, but feel disjointed post game.

Mass Effect 2 = Complete game. A few DLC quests, again a bit pointless as the rewards are better used during the campaign and there's very little else to do.

Hm.
Fallout 1, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3 (vanilla), Fallout New Vegas, Baldurs Gate I and II, Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Alpha Protocol, Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2.
There's 10 games with an ending, now come up with 10 more games that can be continued to be played after the ending.

Bah, nvm.
