Underwater areas.

Does anybody else wish that there were more worthwhile underwater areas with various unique treasures and locations. It would bring a lot more to the game and make the Argonian racial bonus worth it.

I totally agree. When I ffinally found an breath underwater enchant I was really excited. I wanted to explore the oceans and find all the hidden goodies. Well they must of really hidden them because I haven't found anything. There are a few things in the lakes, but nothing in the ocean. I don't play argonian characters. But your right their best special is almost worthless.

They make running from guards and enemies slightly easier by losing them in the water. But you don't really need that exactly to run away and lose enemies.

I agree with you though, I wish there were more underwater wonders to explore, perhaps even part of a ruined city or something. I haven't found anything worthwhile yet, curious to know if anyone has.

I'd love more underwater areas. I love going underwater and exploring the deep but there isn't much in the Skyrim waters or at least not anything I've found. I haven't searched much of Skyrim as I haven't played an Argonian and I don't consume under water potions or have any breathe underwater enchants so I end up drowning while exploring. I'd also like more enemies in the water.

Morrowind had Swift Swim. Also, Vvardenfell was entirely surrounded by water. Made getting about by the waterways a pretty decent alternative to going over-land. Oblivion killed that spell.
At least in Oblivion you could still water-walk... or just bounce across the surface with the master Acrobatics perk. Not much in the way of rivers mind you...
And now in Skyrim.... Water-Walking and Swift Swim are gone... and most of the rivers are too shallow to bother with breathing issues.

Afterall.... clearly gameplay variety elements are worthless and what we really want is a game focused entirely on hitting dragons with swords.

Oblivion had way more underwater locations. There were even a few areas where you could be ambushed by Argonian bandits gleefully swimming around in underwater caves. Except for one or two shipwrecks, I can't think of any areas that are actually inaccessible without water breathing.

Why swim through the sea when you can run on top of it?

Because it is faster to swim. Duh.

How about just a difference in geography?
Have you thought of that?

Thought what about it? Hmm?
Do try to be a little less vague in your questions.

Do try to be a little less sanctimonious.

I meant - just to clarify for you - that maybe Skyrim's geography does not lend itself to underwater adventures quite as much as Morrowind's or Cyrodiil's.
I'm VERY sorry for not making that clearer, for You.

It's true, you could say that it is simply because there are no deep rivers or lakes in Skryim that there are no underwater areas to explore. You can also say that the magic system was neutered because the Nords don't like magic and that there is no levitation because the spell was outlawed and that there is no climbing because they forgot how to weave ropes. You can make excuses all you want but basically I think it comes down to removed game elements. One of my favourite items to find in Oblivion was the Jewel of the Rumare ring you get with a constant breathe underwater effect - I just found a helmet with that effect in Skyrim and I have no idea where I might need it.
The lack of underwater exploration really is a lost and missed part of the game for me.

Oblivion doesn't have levitation in it either.
How is the magic system neutered?

but it actually opens up for more water adventures, being next to the sea of ghosts and all

How is the magic system neutered?

sever lack of spell effects is beyond the biggest problem with skyrim

NW of the mages college. Use your HUD. When you see the picture of a sailing ship disappearing and you don't see the wreck(s), it's (they) below you. Yep, more than one.

Good luck.

The lack of serious treasure underwater is a bit of a letdown. Usually when you're swimming around and see a chest you think "There's gotta be something cool in there." Then it turns out to be an iron helmet and 36 gold pieces. Yay.

I was very disappointed with Bethesda taking away our ability to fight underwater, and with it the ability to do lots of neat things under and on the sea. Likewise with the removal of waterwalking. Most of the water in this game is in an arctic region (the Sea of Ghosts), and they expect people to swim in there? Are they nuts? I loved the Jewel of the Rumare in Oblivion, and using it to poke around every underwater area I came across, especially the flooded dungeons. There are a few wrecks you can swim down to in Skyrim, with a few chests to pop open, but that seems to be all. Like Bacillus said, it hardly even seems worth the effort. It seems like they removed a lot of opportunities for fun in the game.

I was also looking for more underwater stuff. There is on location with

Spoiler
a ship

underwater.

And yes it seems to me that you should be able to swing a weapon underwater. I think Oblivion had it right (maybe Morrowind too as I recall) You can swing a blade or blunt and cast on-touch spells (which don't exist in Skyrim); but could not shoot an arrow or ranged spell underwater.

My main issue is that the rivers and lakes are so shallow. The only deep water is in the Sea of Ghosts,

Have you ever tried to swing a bat or sword or something underwater in real life? The physics of it....just can't happen. Then again horses ride up 90* inclines on mountains without any sweat, so **** physics...
