I put it in my top 25. I think they did an excellent job with really making you feel a part of the game. The lack of a game over/start over feature makes for some interesting plot twist. If you can get past the slow start and your okay with the controls you'll love it.

Also, I was considering purchasing that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD remake pack as I've never played the originals and I'm sure I can already anticipate the response, but how are they and, specifically, how is the HD remake pack? How long are the games?

I have and idea.

Post the game you are asking about then hit "enter" so that it's easy to skim through these pages.

You heard correctly. Heavy Rain's plot is a mess. Worth a rental for the curious, but that's about it.

Also, I was considering purchasing that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD remake pack as I've never played the originals and I'm sure I can already anticipate the response, but how are they and, specifically, how is the HD remake pack? How long are the games?
I played a little bit of the HD SotC. Graphically, it certainly has a few improvements over the PS2 version, but it's still, at the end of the day, late PS2 quality. Not really worth repurchasing for anyone who already has it for that console. It has 3D capability, though, and it looked...quite impressive.

As for the game itself, definitely one of the best games in the PS2 library, and the gameplay holds up reasonably well today. It's not a very long game, only about 10-12 hours long, but they're fairly packed. The boss fights, of which it consists entirely of, are suitably epic, puzzling, fun, and distinct from one another.

Can't comment on ICO, never played it.

But its just your word against a bad demo...

Fine, I will likely need something before KoA is out, if I have money left from my sisters birthday and KoA I will buy it.

I'm looking for clear RPG character progression, choice, and customization in stats and story, lots of refreshing, non-rehashed gameplay (It's not any shorter than other BioWare RPGs pre DA II, is it?) and settings (setting looks so cool... and setting is a major part of my consideration for any form of entertainment), a bit of breathing room to explore (Is it like other BioWare RPGs pre DA II in that regard?), and likeable characters. Basically, I'm looking for a game a Baldur's Gate, KotOR, and DA: Origins and general RPG fan may enjoy. It is blatantly a well-done BioWare game not "dumbed-down" to the point of DA II, right?

Edit: Oh, and I will not have played the first one, so will I be lost or still in the clear?
Also I dont play on ps3, it may be buggier, but. Alpha protocol. Thegame sold poorly, I loved it, so tend to look for oppertunities to reccomend it.

The story, I will admit, not that great. A few things suprised me, but overall not the highlight.

Characters re awesome imo. You have shallow ones like Sie, but others have things you may not notice on your first playthrough or two.
Consiquence is amazing, for example, I did Moscow before Italy, my interaction with one character, effected the reputation of another. Or in a mission, I killed few people and went ndetected. This had less of them in the next one. There are bigger things, but trust me the C&C is amazing.

Gameplay, well on lower difficulty there is choice, harder difficulty I found impossible to not use stealth. Your accuracy is based on stats, you hold down the aim button, to increse accuracy, or if its a shotgun, to knock people down. Personally I just like stealth. There re different ways to do things, e.g emp a fence, kill everyone and take time opening it, or sneak around.

There is no explortion.

Try and rent the game, trust me if you dont like it, it gets better after sudi, they let you respec nd specialise, then you find the more interesting characters.

Oh and the dialouge system is awesome imo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb7RUY1jzQI of when you meet up with a chracter, its not spoilery, but I love the character, and it shows the dialouge.

If your even mildy considering picking up a new semi open world RPG then please read my review of Two Worlds II ( on sale on Impulse for 15$ USD ), you can find it on the first or second page under the Deals thread.

Now for my question: I remembering playing The Bard for PS2 after picking it up for 10$ at a truck stop electronics bin and can't really remember much about it. However I see its about 10$ right now on Steam and was consdering a purchase. The MC scores dont really tell a whole lot about it but it could be an interesting playthrough what I imagine is a Fable-esque style RPG.

Also, for some strange reason, I have had a desire to build things. Cities, castles you name it I have tried it. This included a purchase of the decent, but not worth my 50$, Stronghold 3 ( one of the few times revies and scores did not deter me from purchasing a risky game) as well as the Focus Entertainment Pack, semi worth 50$ because I got Divinity II and DLC as well as Cities XL which is basically what I imagine SimCity would be like if they gave it a new coat of paint. Stronghold has its own issues to work out, basically the fact that there is not much to do since the Warhammer II styled RTS missions are rather boring and the only thing worthwhile is free build. Which does include a nice menu tab that allows for user generated sieges to test out castle builds. However both games share that same feeling of being sort of a building sandbox ( although Cities has a bit more progession as you can expand from a small town with dirt roads and farms into a megolith cities with monuments and airports). So my question......

I have spotted two games, Anno 2070 and Tropico 4. One seems to be perhaps a more futuristic and mission based city buildier, while Tropico seems to be more of a setting and objective driven tycoon style game. I have played the Tropico demo and found it to be interesting, and I love the fact that you can interact with individual citizens as you could in Rollercoaster Tycoon or Zoo Tycoon from the days of yore. Which game would you reccomend and why? Keep in mind Anno 2070 is a new game at a price point of 50$ and Tropico 4 is available on some sites for 20$ or less, with the equally as well recieved Tropico 3 selling for 10$.

This is a pretty quiet thread usually (also because people tend to ask about games that are on sale, and do that in the more active Deals thread instead) so I don't think bumping it daily will help much.

I will repeat my question:

How are the newer games in the Heroes of Might and Magic series? I've only ever played the original and three and remember having fun with them.

Somebody tell me what they thought of Rage. I'm trying to decide whether to buy it. Haven't been able to find a copy to demo, so you're all my last hope. Don't lead me astray, Bethumites!

I believe there is a demo available on Steam, or maybe it was just for consoles. I am not really a huge fan of FPS and this game stays true to the formula that Duke Nukem, Quake,Doom and all the others helped create. I can say that I did enjoy the minor RPG aspects of the game and the weapons and overall gunplay was well done. Still a bit short to buy for full retail price though.

I'm around halfway through and I think it is a great deal for $30. But would I have bought it for $60 when it came out? That I am not too sure of. But regardless, do NOT get it on PS3. id did an especially bad job at of porting it onto that system. As in, it takes 2 seconds for the mega textures to pop in wherever you are looking, so it is a big immersion-breaker.

EDIT: Definitely not worth the $60. I won't spoil anything, but the story is poorly written, doesn't pull you in, and the ending is completely anti-climatic and abrupt. The gameplay and visuals get my thumbs up, but the story is a big letdown. And I am even accustomed to games like Borderlands and Brink.

Yes.

Now, I don't know how "immersive" it would be to you (and frankly, I really [censored] hate that term) or how much of an RPG you woud think it is, since you don't design your own character, you play as Geralt, who has his own distinct appearance, voice, and personality. But there are lots of choices to make over the first game's campaign, all of which can and will affect you (or bite you in the ass) somewhere down the line. There aren't quite as many in the second game, but it has some much bigger choices that permanently alter the plot's direction.

Is Civiization IV any good? My brother would also like to play it because he really liked civilization revolution. I read that it was much harder, but that isn't what I think he would care about. Just how you build stuff up and combat and things like that. Also we couldn't run Civilization V (I checked).

I haven't played it (not really a genre I have much interest in) but Civ 4 is by many considered the best in the series, with a good modding community behind it as well.

I loved witcher, it wasnt a one night game, it was a good character, the npc's were interesting and actually had character, and its also an advlt game which i liked, geralt morals are at the least to say loose but it is set in a fantasy medieval period, they say and do things which seem more realistic to me than alot of options they give you in computer rpgs.

The second is a bit different havent finsihed it yet, ive been way to lazy mostly because, i dont want to miss parts of the game and im trying to be careful to get the sequence correct, but the start is very interesting, you wont see that in skyrim.

My brother loves everything about the Civilization series(I personally think that RTS games are superior to turn based) and did play and really enjoy Civ Rev. Though he did say that Civ Rev was like a watered down version of the PC games.

According to my friends Civ IV Complete (with both expansions) is supposedly not only the best Civ game, but one of the best turn-based games around. I just got it this week and am going to start playing some MP this weekend or next.

I have a chace to buy one of these games for less than a dollar: here's the full list http://www.gram.pl/sklep_grupa.asp?e=6grk0 (it's in Polish but you should recognize the titles, there's two sections A-G and H-Z on top).
I'm mostly interested in:
-Fear 2
-Company of Heroes + first addon
-Chronicles of Riddike Assault on Dark Athena

Which one is the best?
