Unofficial Area 51 Discussion Mega-thread

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:07 pm

Ok guys, I think I speak for all of the frequenting members of this forum when I say I'M SICK OF ALL OF THE AREA 51 THREADS!
So why not have an end all Area 51 discussion megathread? I said the same thing.

Let's start this off by saying what http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_51 is.

"Area 51 is a military base, and a remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base. It is located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States, 83 miles (133 km) north-northwest of downtown Las Vegas. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large secretive military airfield. The base's primary purpose is to support development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems. The intense secrecy surrounding the base, the very existence of which the U.S. government barely acknowledges, has made it the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and a central component to unidentified flying object (UFO) folklore."

So now that the explaining is out of the way. Here are some of the past Area 51 threads that you can continue discussions from here.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1140912-area-51-dlc/page__p__16677808__hl__Area%2051__fromsearch__1&#entry16677808 -I Was Out Of Name Ideas

And many more for which I will not list

If you have any thing you want to say about a Area 51 DLC, PLEASE STATE IT HERE. DO NOT MAKE ANY MORE THREADS
Talk about the story, if you would want this idea, etc etc.
If there is anything I should add in the OP let me know. :tops:

90% underground, first 2 levels are raided and full of critters (wastelandy).

Next couple levels are blocked a locked door or something and have areas that are caved in and dirty, with skeletons etc all around. There's a big hard to open door that requires effort to open, like You Gotta Shoot Em in the Head.

There should minimal fighting, and a huge amount of story. Keys, computers, notes, bodies, holodiscs, and confused old robots would make it worthwhile.

There has to be something super crazy. We don't really need a special flamer or a different type of T-51b. We need a moon rover, or a gravity gun.

Maybe aliens contained somewhere in the base have taken over a key section that you have to recover.

Maybe everyone is dead, victim of a white noise frequency like in the music vault from Fallout 3?

THERE HAS TO BE A MASSIVE STORY! One that you figure out on your own, like the vaults.

Maybe you're exposed to something that causes you to have strange dreams you must play through?

There are so many options, I just know there has to be one that Obsidian can decide on to be the worst possible and throw it together in a week.

Would rather have the first DLC makeup for the gross lack of content for Caesar's Legion. 23 side quests for NCR and 4 for the Legion says it all.

I think most of us can honestly say the game was really lacking. Not so much story wise but mostly for the rest of the game, at least in my opinion. If they make an Area 51 DLC (which I do very much want) it has to be amazing with a very deep story behind it. It cannot and I pray to god it will not be some trash Obsidian throws together in a couple weeks. And one more side note that it most likely won't be the first DLC but hopefully a future one. I'm just going to throw out some random ideas for this DLC. I wouldn't mind fighting aliens or at least having them locked away in those cylinder tube like containers. I don't want something as major as the alien itself to be determined whether it will show up or not in the game if you chose the Wild Wasteland perk or didn't. I would hope that it at least contained one or two special weapons relating to aliens or a pre-war weapon that was the only one created which was going to be used against the Chinese before the bombs fell. Heck it could even be post war, just something unique and nothing from the ordinary sort. I want there to be an amazingly deep story to make up for the lack of depth in most of the locations in NV. I want there to be holotapes, notes, terminal diaries, etc. etc.. I hope you are reading this Obsidian. Don't even bother making this DLC if your not going to put time and effort into making it.

What they should do is attempt to redeem energy weapons.

I think my illustration is needed here

http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/628/irreputiableproof.jpg

I dislike most games that involve aliens, there are very few exceptions. Mothership Zeta was not one of those exceptions and I can't see any Area 51 DLC being any different.

I think most of us can honestly say the game was really lacking.

I will make use of my right to disagree with you.

Only if it is a big DLC and have Enclave in east coast armour. And supermutant in power armour, and your own mind control DeathClaw.

Considering the extreme amount of threads about this one DLC. I thought it would be best to just have one thread devoted to this so that new members will recognize this is the place to talk about Area 51 and not starting their own thread. In the other thread you talk about anything where here it is devoted to the most popular theory of what's in store DLC wise.

What if they aren't even allowed to make DLC of area 51? I think that the americans wouldn't want a videogame of one of their most secretive areas.

And no saying that the video game wouldn't be the real thing wouldn't work.

Area 51, yes, alien AI no, no hack n slash unless really needed, and no uber weapons.
I'd prefer it to be a place of intrigue as it's viewed in reality, maybe a hint of aliens, and something more sinister like finding information that humans had been experimenting on the aliens, but let it maintain an air of mystery, dangers for the player could be things like critters and BoS.

I'm gonna say the thing that most people are thinking: ALIENS AND FALLOUT SHOULD BE KEPT IN SEPERATE ROOMS, WITH ONLY A KEYHOLE TO LOOK AT THEM THROUGH.

Sure, Area 51 would be pretty cool for some new energy weapons, and maybe a hint of aliens (like malformed skeletons from the supposed Roswell landing, or an autopsy room covered in blood hinting that one escaped). But that should be it. Of course, there would be aliens, as it is Area 51, and that would be expected of Area 51, but this would be such a cool way to do it. Also, IIRC, isn't it already a military base? So why can't we just go there on account of the BoS to find some pre-war tech and find that it's been overrun by raiders/ghouls/mutants/whatever.

Totally agree! personally I think area 51 needs to be a BIG dlc, possibilities are endless for it really, a great oputunity to use loads of 50 sci-fi references. Though I feel area 5 should just be part of the dlc, the goal at the end of fighting through the whole us base, filled with new quests, fractions and enemys.

I just hope like with point lookout it has a decent story, but links more to the main game, for example your going there on a ncr quest, but you can double cross them and get whatever they sent you there for another fraction or for yourself etc

I think that Area 51 would be a great DLC, but I'd love love love it if there were no aliens, as I think it would be too predictable. Considering how good Fallout games are at cooking up dastardly conspiracies and underhanded plots (like the best of the vaults and such), I think it would be much more fun to uncover either a scheme that a government at some point was working on, or even one that some organization is still part of. I know this won't be liked by most people, but for me, the perfect Area 51 DLC would play up the fact that the alien landing was a cover up for something much more sinister and, imo, much more interesting. Maybe you could come across an old room which has alien costumes stuffed in a closet lol.
But to be honest, I think the rest of you are bang on the money - I can't see them passing up on the opportunity for an alien/sci fi themed DLC.

What about finding an alien, in the lower level of the base, maybe in stasis, with whom you find a way to communicate and which tells you what happened in the famous 2 hours? Maybe aliens saw everything, maybe a recon craft (not the fo3 one) which was observing was captured by area 51...maybe they found a way to talk with aliens. This would be kinda awesome. Seeing the fallout world from a "different" view. Of course i dont want a kid story, but something really immersive. Suggestions accepted!

I think that what they need to make something like Area 51 DLC an expansion. They could make as though that Caeser's Legion, NCR, Brotherhood and House(if the player did not kill him) are lured in by a mysterious signal from Area 51. The first few levels should be filled with power armored ghouls and such. Later you find genetically manipulated creatures......

Yes. I would love to see the "Area 51" Groom Lake Airfield.

Here's the catch. I want the place to be -functional- and -active-.

The Groom Lake Facility is one of the United States' most closely guarded secrets. This is the same facility that designed the Harrier, several variants of our stealth aircraft, and the Mother-of-All-Spyplanes the SR-71 Blackbird. From this site, the tools with which America intended to 'win' the war against communism were born. And since approximately 80% of the labs and testing facilities are about a mile and a half underground... there is no reason to believe these facilities would not be intact.

So therefore... I think they -ought- to be. Alive. Functional. And still producing weapons.

But a couple centuries underground, with a lab full of the brightest brains the military think-tank can assemble, would be a nightmare of evolution. Such nerd-dom would, unchecked for so long, would no doubt result in a super-race of 'Uber-Dorks' capable of calculating even the most complicated of equations with the speed of a ZAX. Their society, of course, would be muddled-up and mired in deep scientific debate and study, with little progress ever being made in one direction or the other for very long.

The moment one drug is proven effective, or one theory presented as being plausible, an opposing party swoops in to provide as much damning evidence as it takes to quash their rivals into silence. And then once they present -their- findings, another group rushes in to cut them down to size as well.

By the time the player finds the place, the first words you hear should be "I'm going to put my quantum harmonizer in your photonic resonation chamber!" coming from the mouth of a very frenzied looking man in a lab coat. He must be carrying an item called 'Quantum Harmonizer"... which may or may not be some kind of energy weapon capable of 'harmonizing' your cellular structure in very unpleasant ways.

Make sure he doesn't get it into YOUR resonation chamber, yes?

After the scientist is gone, or dispatched and disarmed, you can begin your exploration of the levels of the facility to which you... as the first outsider to actually breach the surface-level security in 200 years... are given clearance. Quests abound, and a number of interesting sights are seen. Some technologies should be made available to the player, as well as interesting or curious scenes explored. Great deals of Fallout Universe lore should be preserved here, as well, and could be uncovered through your explorations should you be so inclined.

Eventually, you come to the 'heart' of the facility... where you learn that the Supercomputer which operates all of the vital systems and operations of the facility is completely fine and requires absolutely no assistance from you whatsoever. Instead it merely asks you a few cursory questions, decides that you're either an alright sort of chap or a complete bastard, and proceeds to issue you one of three ultimatums.

1.) Leave or Die.

2.) Remain Independent or Join the Staff.

3.) Paper or Plastic.

Later, one of the female technicians who works closely with the AI will inform you that this last bit was a joke... and that the computer was attempting to be funny. She will then provide you with any other information you might want to know about herself, the computer, the base, the people who originally worked and lived there (the ancestors of the current staff) and so on.

If you have the Lady Killer perk or Cherchez La Femme, you may be able to seduce more information out of her, or even her AAA-Class Security Badge.

More ideas to come...

Stay tuned! Or... don't...

I'd love to see an Area 51 DLC, if theres an Alien Easter Egg/Ship/Technology, I'd be happy, I'm hoping its held by the Enclave, so I can kill them all and take their Tech. Hopefully the Power Armours will be a little more diverse with better modifiers than what was offered in the New Vegas game, Experimental Armour using Alien Tech perhaps, my favourite Armour was the Tribal and it had excellent modifiers, anyway the Area 51 site doesn't have to be overrun by Aliens, but walking into an Alien Enclave underground war could be interesting :) or indeed a completely new species of beast to fight, something maybe the US Army had created as a weapon and has breed and evolved underground and of course the Enclave has engaged this fearsome Military Predator species ;) Or a biomech lifeform, half droid half thing. Oh the possibilities are limitless :gun:

It was done in FO3, I'd be horrified if they brought it in NV because given the status of all the so called "new" things in NV, Area 51 would basically be the Broken Steel base with a MZ ship in the middle and the same ol' guns and same ol' alien skins - just being lazy really. I wouldn't put it past them, sadly...

If they had to do Area 51, I'd rather put the cliché of aliens to one side and bring around some sort of High-Military experimentation base where humans and creatures are being experimented on and there are lots of surreal guns/effects like the deathclaw control. For example, anyone who has played GTA:SA, the military base there is high-security and has a deep underground base - please don't make it a vault. I would really enjoy that sort of DLC but I do not know if the FO lore has sufficient details to give evidence of a massive military complex that has reasons for experimentation in post-apocalyptic wastelands.
