Does anyone else play? My 14 day trial just ran out and I plan to purchase the full version as soon as possible. From what I've played I enjoy it a lot more than World of Warcraft simply because of how deep it is.

If anyone would be interested it could be a good idea to start a BGSF corporation. I've also made a user listing above, so just ask and I'll put your in-game name on the list.

Discuss. :)

I play. Not so much at the very moment, however. A rival alliance has put out a Declaration of War on us and are more or less slaughtering us for the time being. Oh well. At least we can walk around in here now.

I'm Jon Joringer in game. Feel free to add me. And as for a corporation for us Beth guys, I don't think there are anywhere near enough members to form a corp and actually do anything.

And pssst.. You should so let me recommend you before you upgrade to a paid account. A free month would be nice.

It would be nice if all the forum players could get together at least though. :)

Sure, I'll be buying the game off Steam, so let me know what steps I need to take.

Ah, never mind. Apparently it only works if I recommended you before your trial period. Oh well.
And yeah, getting the few BGSFers together would be fun. Let me know if you want to fleet up for something.

And Shaker, EVE is certainly a long-term kind of game. Things may not be so exciting when you've just started and are running tutorial missions. But when you're in a corporation that's part of a larger alliance that's at war with another alliance and you're in the middle of larger-scale fleet combat etc., it gets really cool.

I've always wanted to get into this game, but I've tried the trial twice and always get turned off pretty quick. The game just seems so complicated, definitely not like your typical MMO. It was always pretty annoying to know that I couldn't get out of my ship either, I mean what's the point in making an avatar then? Although, I did purchase X3: Terran Conflict during the Steam sale, so maybe that will get me a bit more acclimated with these space sim games.

I've downloaded the demo, played it and uninstalled it twice now. Being a sci fi fan I'm intrigued by the game but both times I've played I've been defeated by the seemingly infinite menu options and the skill training system which means you're sometimes just paying to wait several days before your skills increase. I'm still tempted to play it though, I just wish it were a little more user friendly.

checked out some you tube vids of it... a friend let me play WoW for a bit on his account once and it was okay, not something I would pay for.

but this... looks amazing. I just dont know how I would ever find the time to devote to it...

That makes it look like Sins of a Solar Empire more than anything to me. Of course it should always be counted in a MMOs favor that battles can look like battles in RTS:es.

EVE isn't actually all that time intensive. Sure, it takes time to learn everything, but no one is going to know everything. Most people don't actually know much at all outside of what they do (PvP, industry, etc.). So in that since, there's not a literal ton to learn just to play. Besides, EVE uses a training system instead of levels. The only thing separating older characters from new characters is how well educated they are. Educating your character takes place in real time and even when you're not playing. So if you're really busy in life, just put a couple of big skills on that will take a few days to train.

And if any of you guys that have downloaded the trial a billion times but got turned off and would like to try it again. Feel free to contact me in-game if you need some help.

I have played it, but the fact for me is the battle system seems a little too easy for me. It is more brute force than it is skill. If the battle system allowed more acute control over weapons and a more human touch, i would play again in a heartbeat. played for 3 days then just stopped... perfectly good waste of 40 dollars and a cerebral accelerator... :banghead:

EDIT: at least in the beginning it is... looked at the video above and saw what you REALLY can do. wow.

You didn't decide to do the trial before you bought the game?

And as for the combat: sure, in one on one combat, it can sometimes boil down to who has more firepower / who can tank damage better, but not always. There is a good deal of strategy involved (especially in fleet combat) and a good strategy can give you the hand up in an otherwise unwinnable scenario.

Edit: Mirglof, EVE allows for two deaths, more or less. Once your ship is destroyed (first death) the capsule your character is in has a chance to escape. If whoever is fighting you feels especially vindictive, they can destroy your capsule as well (second death). Though that's not death for players, who are all so called 'capsuleers.' These highly trained and skilled individuals can have their conscience uploaded to clones, and so in that respect are basically immortal. Although any clone that's destroyed will lose all implants in its head, and possibly some training/education if your insurance isn't up to par.

Yes. I noticed that after I watched the video on what you really can do. I only played for a day or 2 so I did not get a firm grasp on the game. There is strategy involved now that I see and I would play it again if I were able to keep a subscription to it as my income is nowehere close to fixed. A.K.A:not haviung a job combined with an overprotective mother who i had to beg just to get fallout and XBOX live. (she treats my little bro like a king and tells me to get a job if I want money. I ask her to let me get a job and she always says "how will you go to work and home every day?" I am 16, I can easily get a driver's license (florida's test is a JOKE!) and my grandfather can get a nice used car for cheap as he is a car dealer. what is wrong with this picture?(besides the creepy eyes and mouth and facial region of this dude...me gusta.)
EDIT: I saw the game at wal-mart and thought it looked cool so i bought it not knowing it was a p2p mmo.

Yeah when you ship explodes you lose all the stuff on your ship and you escape in a pod. If you die in you pod you reactivate in a clone, losing in implants you have, which is costly. So dieing has a pretty hefty cost in this game, that's why it can be so intense at moments.
You can add me too. Crazey Monkey and OneAngryMiner are my two profiles.
If there is an active group in september I'll join a BGSF corp. I've been playing thus game up for a more than a year now.

This would be probably damn near impossible for a beginner, but just throwing it out there: although to play EVE you need a subscription, it is possible to play without spending real money. An in-game item called a PLEX (Pilot License Extension) can be bought with ISK (in-game currency) and used to renew your subscription. The reason I say it would likely be impossible for a new player to use these is that they're quite pricey (current market value in my region of space is about three-hundred-sixty million ISK).

Anyone have any tips for making some ISK? I'm planning on getting a mining barge tomorrow, but mining hasn't served me so well thus far. Maybe no one needs the type of minerals I've been mining at Trossere,

Anyone have any tips for making some ISK?

There are so many ways to make money; it's almost hard to recommend just one specific way. You say you're getting a mining barge soon? By that I assume you mean an ORE mining barge? If so, be sure you're skilled enough to A.) pilot the ship and B.) use it to its fullest (be able to use modulated strip miner, to start with). Minerals are always in good demand (a lot of ships being manufactured out there need a whole lot of minerals) and you'll almost always get a good price for them. Odds are, you're just not mining very efficiently and not making a whole lot of ISK because of it.

Another popular way of getting cash is by running security missions. You'll only have level 1s open to you, which don't pay that well and aren't usually very exciting. The good part is that running missions increases corporation standing for the corp you're running for, which will unlock higher level missions and rewards via loyalty points, etc.

Personally, I make money by manufacturing various odds and ins (low-end ships, drones, some ammunition, etc.) and by playing the market a bit at that (selling high buying low). I run missions for fun, too, but my character's combat skills are less than amazing (most of my education has gone into mining/industry skills).

Mining barges are the way to go for making money mining, especially if you get someone trusted to haul for you. Planetary interaction is another way you can increase your income. Missioning is a great way as well. You can make a fair amount of millions in an hour found level 3s.
