Unofficial Final Fantasy Thread V

I enjoyed FFXII, much more so than FFX (which I consider to be the weakest FF game of 1-12). The main character is weak and the story isn't the best, but as far as gameplay go, I think it was top notch and certainly the way the FF series should have continued to go instead of going the FFXIII route. FFXII with a better story and a better cast would have been awesome.

What are the best PSP RPGs?

The only worthwhile PSP games I own are Chinatown Wars, SC: Broken Destiny, and Kingdom of Paradise (at least I think that's what it's called).

Seems like all the RPGs went DS. I have FF Tactics, but I can barely win any fights and am stuck near the beginning. I don't really want Crisis Core either since I STILL haven't beat FFVII.

012 Dissidia is very fun even if you don't know all the stories of the different Final Fantasy games

You might also want to try the Persona games as well

I've also heard that Phantasy Star Portable 2 is pretty good and you can play it as an MMO (with no subscription fee)

I agree. I finished FFX, but it's the only FF to this day that I cannot imagine ever playing again. The characters did not capture my imagination, and the mechanics never managed to really engage me. It was just...dreary. FFXII had a lot more going for it, imo. Ivalice as a setting, for one, was a huge good thing for me, as well as Hitoshi Sakimoto's soundtrack. Maybe it was nostalgia, since I was reminded in some places of Vagrant Story. Hmm.

New characters, additional voiceovers, online functionality, etc. Spring 2012 in Japan.

PlayStation Vita is looking mighty nice right about now. Definitely picking one up at launch.

Honestly, how did they make the chicks in FF13 so hot?

Not just the chicks! And not in just FF13! :P

EDIT: And since I've never posted in the FF threads before, I will say that my favorites of the series are, well, most of them.

I love 7 because it was the first I played and got me addicted to the series. I love 9 because of the great story and it was my second game. I'm one of the weirdos I guess, because I really loved 10&10-2. I will admit I had to grab some Kleenex during the best ending. Haven't played 13 yet though. I think if I could only have one of them, I'd choose 10&10-2 (as a whole story unit). For me, I really loved the story. It was so bittersweet, and very emotional. But still, I'd rather just have all of them (and I do! well except 13 lol).

After about 10 hours into Xenoblade, I'm finally starting to realize just how http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAYBui5ghJ0 this game's world is. The game takes place on http://nintendoartwork.com/gallery/xenoblade/xenoblade-giants-artwork-2.jpg, each with a good number of areas and each area being fairly large. I haven't reached a point yet where my backtracking or exploration have been hindered. So far I can go all the way back to where I started, either by foot or teleporting. I don't think I've ever seen anything like in a JRPG before, and it's the first time such a large world has actually been appealing to me. Perhaps because it manages to feel unique despite the amount of space there is to cover. The game also retains the linear narrative of your typical JRPG though, which certainly helps.

This is the kind of JRPG I was hoping to see more of way back when the PlayStation 3 was announced. Five years later and a Wii game put just about every PS3/360 RPG to shame. Lost Odyssey is probably the only one that tops it so far.

A Wii game, eh? That's it, I'm going down to SCEA's main offices and giving them a piece of my mind. :swear:
