Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Thread #57 w hard

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:44 pm

Thinking of getting this for my PC but wondering about performance...

System is about 6 years old replaced video card over a year ago
Vista 64 Home Premium

CPU: (Quad-Core)Intel? Core? 2 Quad Q6700 @ 2.66GHz 1066FSB 8MB L2 Cache 64-bit
HDD: 500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM
RAM: 4GB PC6400 DDR2/800 Dual Channel Memory Corsair XMS2
Video: Nvidia GTS250 1GB
Resolution: 1680 x 1050

Will it run, and any estiamte on how well it will run?

I would think that Skyrim may struggle a tiny bit at that resolution, if I am remembering that GPU right.

It should run, but I don't think it'll be a very enjoyable experience and you may experience stability problems.

If I read that right, it may struggle on that integrated chip. Perhaps you have a budget to get a new GPU and PSU?

Laptop right? If so, all bets are off, however you should try low and see how it goes. It might just about be playable.

I must complain. I'm running on a dated ATI HD 4570M listed here as low end, but I'm still able to run on high with OK 25-30 FPS. If I switch to Med graphics, I get around 45-50FPS. My GPU was insulted

Radeon High End has the 800 and 900 numbers (the first digit is generation only, for features, not for any performance indicator). Gaming Mainline is 600-700. Low End is 400 and less. 500 is "Budget" between Low End and Medium.

30-50 is the lower middle of the hundreds, 70 to 90 is the high end within hundreds. Skyrim runs quite well on HD 6570s, not so well at all on a 6450.

The HD 5570 was the first Medium I know of that worked well, the HD 4550 was not very good.

Laptops get no official support, and laptop cards generally run well below whatever is equivalent as a desktop card.

What's your budget and your screen resolution? What level of power does the power supply offer?

You have to open the side and read the label on the power supply. That screen resolution won't work at all well with the least powerful cards that can run the game properly, such as the HD 6570, you'll have to reduce that somewhat.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%20600083901%20600144218&IsNodeId=1&name=Radeon%20HD%206570

There are several HD 6570s on that page for $50, after the rebate.

I like this one pretty well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150543

I hope someone can help me. I received this game for Christmas and have not been able to run it properly on my laptop. My laptop is a Toshiba with Vista using Intel. I have all the necessary requirements listed to run Skyrim. The game downloaded fine. I can launch it fine. The intro sound and video is fine. However, when it starts to run the actual game itself my video starts flashing different frames, but the audio is fine. Please tell me what I need to do to fix this. I appreciate your help. Thank you very much.

We need some more information about your system. If you can go start->run and type in dxdiag you will see a tool pop up with useful information. Hit 'save all information' and then open the dxdiag.txt file and copy the information into a post here - please wrap it with the 'spoiler' tag so that it doesn't make the thread hard to read. (alternatively just copy the system information and display devices section)

As to this so called list, it is by FAR off, I run an ATI Hd 6770 on 1080p with out lag, and updated textures to about 2x-3x higher then the stock. Ie.everything on ultra, max view, anti and antro at max.

IMO this list should be taken as a reference, not a fact. I installed Skyrim in my pc at office just to see how much gain I got compared to my dated laptop at home. This computer has a Geforce GT 430 listed here as Medium to Low, but I'm able to run in high with FPS over 40-45. The overall gameplay is quite smooth. If you have a dated GPU you can still have a nice Skyrim experience, just don't go greedy trying to play at 1080p and beyond.

For those wanting the best graphics card for the money to run skyrim it would have to be radeon 6870 or :

http://www.techspot.com/review/481-amd-radeon-7970/page10.html

at 1920x1200 resolution: the average fps from 6870 is 50. the average fps from 6950 was 54 only 4 more fps for ~ 60 bucks more.
how well you run skyrim will depend on the power of your cpu as based on the charts, the game is ridiculously cpu bound.

I personally play skyrim at 1080p (i have no idea why benchmarks never use this resolution) all settings on ultra/max, shadowdistancedraw 2000, loads of texture mods and i have 60 fps everywhere except on the world map where i get 40-55. lowest fps is 35 in cpu bound areas like whiterun and markath.

Hey ! I know you guys hate when people ask if a computer can run Skyrim or not, but I can't help it, you guys are the pros ! I'm building my first PC and I was wondering how good this would run Skyrim, this is my first time so don't be harsh.

Specs:

Processor: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=650177

Motherboard: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=638763

Memory: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 16GB CL9 Kit w/4x 4GB XMS3 modules, CL9-9-9-24, 1.5V, Vengeance Heatspreader, 240

Graphic card: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=657063

Harddrive: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=627518

Power supply: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=376060

Would this set-up run Skyrim atleast decently ?

Edit: No need to click the links, and I didn't know where to post this. Is this the correct forum ?
