Vampire and being underwater

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 6:32 am

How come vampires don't get the water breathing ability like the argonians? i mean since they are dead and don't really need to breath i see no reason why my vampire needs to come up for air. :\

I have actually had to role-play that using the water breathing spell adds gils to my neck which alows me to breath underwater lol.

I guess it really depends on your view of the whole vampire mythology, some of the mythology says that vampires are dead, but there hearts still beat and bodies act normally as long as they drink blood. So in that sense they would still need to breath, but they wouldn't necessarily die from not breathing... if that makes sense to you.

I like the idea of them being dead thus they don't need to do things a living person would do so it always bothered me that if i stay underwater with my vampire she will drown and die lol.

But they can't die if they're already dead...?

Not die, but say sort of pass out... there body wouldn't be able to heal because there not breathing, but once there taken out of the water there body would be able to heal and they would start to breath again. Like I said it really would depend on your point of view of the mythology, because it all has different ways of telling it.

It is very odd indeed. Never have I thought about this before, and I think ALOT.

And to clarify, the Vampires in TES games are dead, although, they still have blood coursing through their veins and a heartbeat, like any other living thing. Although, blood is the only thing keeping them alive, the ONLY thing they need. They are fueled on blood, although their actual bodies are cold, due to them being dead. Odd in a sense, but plausable.

But anyway, I believe it didn't cross the creators' minds. That's why they need people like Us to come up with these ideas.

I went with the assumption that Vampires aren't dead, they just don't age. Not feeding causes you to age, and feeding restores your youth. At least that's how I pictured it.

So yes, breathing is essential.

But TES vampires are dead though so its a bit weird.

Their heart beats, their brain functions, and their cells regenerate. Nothing about that seems 'dead' to me.

Well BS shouldn't have them classified as undead then maybe?

Who defines what undead means though? Forsaken need to breath in World of Warcraft yet I'd say they're definitely more undead than the disease ridden vampires of Tamriel.

Well im just going by what the usep and wiki says and there stated to be just as dead as other undead things i mean whats the point of saying vampires are undead if there still alive and breathing and stuff?

The game definitely recognizes them as being undead (thank you Necromage!), but I had never thought about this either. Now that you mention it I to wish my vampire could breath underwater

I love the necromage perk i also love how it makes any spell you cast on yourself better but extends the time for the spell like if i cast a dremora lord with one hand it will last for 6 minutes instead of 4 and a dual casted dremora lord will last for 12 minutes its awesome. :]

Heck, vampires shouldn't even be able to cross moving water, much less breathe it.

Why wouldn't they be able to cross water?

Why wouldn't they be able to cross water?

It's just part of the old mythology about vampires. Garlic repulses them, crosses definitely repel them, they can't cross moving water, they can't enter a home without being invited, sunlight destroys them, and a stake through the heart destroys them. So does decapitation and, I think, burning. Holy water hurts them but I don't think it's ever represented as being fatal.

Its not even just spells though, its any enchantment on your clothing/armor as well!
