Vampires, fun but not worth it. & mild werewolf talk

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:07 pm

exactly, but nobody ever says "i want the option", they just say "i want everything to be my way"

I don't think the people are complaining that they should've gotten their way and you shouldn't have gotten yours. I think they're just pointing out that it's really odd that a game that starts out forcing you in the first person makes two things: Riding horses or becoming a werewolf, forced 3rd person. For animations like sitting down and whatnot it's okay because it shifts you back automatically, but for gameplay it's just bizarre. It's like forcing you to play an archer 3rd person only, or saying you can only be a mage in the first person.

Untrue, those things require precise aim, while riding a horse or being a Lycan do not

Archery maybe, but it depends on the spell you're casting. There's no aiming at all with some spells, so it comes down to playstyle. Should you be forced one way or the other because someone else thinks that their playstyle is better?

I mostly use the werewolf transformation to travel faster, and I would much prefer that to be something I could do in first person. Being in first person (and sneaking, but that's another thing entirely) would make me feel much more like the great hunter that a werewolf is supposed to be than the current system, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone who wants to play in third person.

I think you should get the option to pick 1 or 3 but i have always fought in melee combat in 3rd person so that nobody flanks me, same with riding horses

Last i checked that is what Lycans do in...every worthy mythos. What more do you wanna do as a Lycan? A savage beast is not good for much else other than ripping up stuff

Some stealth and subtlety maybe? I would prefer to stalk my prey rather than flail my hands around.

Would you like to cure your lycanthropy? What, and lose immunity to disease with no downside whatsoever? Even just a forced transformation once a month would make the whole thing vaguely interesting.

It does not NEED to be forced, just roll a damn dice ever night and if it lands on [insert number] turn into the wolf, for the love of Tzeentch it really is not hard

Bingo.

Being a werewolf means being hunted by day and hunting at night, A 2 minute hulk smash killing spree is kind of dull.

On a side note, werewolves. I would like to see a first person point of view for them. Although 3rd person is fine, as i play in 3rd person just as much as i do in 1st, sometimes playing as a werewolf in a tiny space makes for a difficult time. And i'm not going to lie, seeing a closeup of those wicked claws would be pretty darn cool!

That, and transformation animation when you turn back into human would be awesome!

Never seen the point of either in Skyrim tbh. WW have terrible gameplay mechanics, and Vamps just are a pain to use if you intend to try to RP them. I havent bothered with either.

Most time my werewolf turns back is in combat so an animation would let the enemy get free hits in (Or you could be invincible while animation is playing)

Well, Daggerfall had a forced monthly transformation, and Bloodmoon forced it nightly, so just going by precedent.

Also, not a point I want to bring up really, but with the state of these forums sometimes, random each night would result in a whole load of "Turned into a wolf three nights in a row, when will Beth fix this broken mechanic, game's ruined etc. etc. blah, blah you know the score". This statement has nothing to do with my own views on the subject, just saying.

Skyrim's Lycans are not the disease variant of werewolf like BM and DF, they are a magical blessing from Hircine and do not follow the same rules.

Or maybe just have an animation that is quite short and doesn't really stop combat

Spoiler
Then hopefully they add wild werewolves that can give you the disease so you can be a normal werewolf with all its bonuses and drawbacks if you choose to cure it after the Companions quest is done.

I appreciate that, but Skyrim's vampires are supposed to be markedly different from Cyrodiil's, look what happened there. Anyway splitting hairs. Some kind of forced transformation is what we all would like, it seems.

Skyrim's Vamps are the same vamps from Cyrodiil, they are a strain that took the name of the OG Vamps of skyrim after they went "extinct"

That seems to be the overall conclusion of the community, but I haven't seen any in game evidence to really prove that's what Bethesda intended. Most likely they just decided to port over the Cyrodiilic vampires because it was easier.
