Vampires, fun but not worth it. & mild werewolf talk

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 9:00 pm

In Oblivion, being blood starved vampire was amazing. You got tremendous boosts to multiple stats. However, one step into sunlight equaled instant death. In Skyrim, being a blood starved vampire is also very cool. And you can step out into the sunlight, which is fantastic. But, there is one downside. One major downside, you can't even ENTER towns or villages without being chased off. I'm okay with the being a monster aspect, but i don't think you should be chased out so quickly. My idea is that you're only noticed when you get really close to someone, or you talk to someone. Being for people to know what you are right off the bat is a bit silly.

On a side note, werewolves. I would like to see a first person point of view for them. Although 3rd person is fine, as i play in 3rd person just as much as i do in 1st, sometimes playing as a werewolf in a tiny space makes for a difficult time. And i'm not going to lie, seeing a closeup of those wicked claws would be pretty darn cool!

Please look at my forum suggesting more ideas for the future Skyrim. It's worth a read!

In Skyrim as a Vampire I was incredibly disappointed. Lycanthropy could have done much better than a 2 minute killing spree, I want to feel like I am a werewolf, not a man who can turn into a wolf whenever he wants with no downside.

Okay wait. In Oblivion sunlight was not instant death, and the bonuses weren't that great. In Skyrim I CAN walk around towns and noone cares. As long as you arent in 4th stage they won't be hostile. And the bonuses in Skyrim with necromage are much better than Oblivion's bonuses. Morrowinds bonuses trumps Oblivion too. Once you become a vampire in Morrowind you become lightning fast, and can jump onto houses. If you couldn't hit a rat before you can now hit most anything. That is depending on which clan you joined. In Morrowind though you are always hated as a vampire and cannot trade with most normal merchants. So you basically have to live as an outcast and call your clans home your home.

I think vampires in Skyrim ARE worth it with necromage. Without it though it really only benefits sneaky characters.

I wish you could gain the trust of the citizens of Skyrim when being a vampire, let them know that you won't drink their bloods or anything like that.

Oh well that is realistic. At that stage you are no different than the vampires living In caves and attacking adventurers. That is how everyone sees you atleast.

But cmon, how can they know what you are the second you walk into the village? I think mild communication is required for someone to notice you

I have a vampire character right now, but after reading the UESP article on Skyrim's vampirism i couldn't help but download a mod for it beforehand. Which was difficult because i was laughing my ass off.

Seriously, only no health-regeneration during day time  And people wonder about the "hand hodling" argument in regards to Skyrim :shakehead:

Vampires in Skyrim losing power from sunlight is actually very accurate to how Dracula is effected by sunlight in the actual novel. I know the TES series has lore for vampires of its own, but the whole losing power thing is just nice to see. Too bad you can't become a child as you grow stronger. That would be hilarious. Dracula takes the form of a child as he grows stronger in the novel.

All children in Skyrim are now vampires because they can't be killed and must be using their looks to get adopted for the sake of having an easy source of blood. This is why there's more kids found in wealthy families. The "kids" get a near endless source of high class blood once adopted into such families. This explains why they are so bratty, as well.

I'd argue against it for ignoring the loss of max Health, Mana, and Stamina, but... well, even then, it's not really enough. If it's only 100% reduction, I'm still godlike with my regen thanks to my Necromage Enchants. If you were to add another 50-100 reduction in regen, you COULD get a -100 regen rate when without the right enchants... meaning, you lose vitals at the rate you'd normally gain them. Now that'd work a bit more.

More than anything, though... WHY ARE THERE NO QUESTS? The Vamp and Lycan effects barely have any presence in Skyrim. No Factions, no questlines, and the Lycan "questline" is just the freaking normal fighter's guild. The lack of motivation other than stats is what really turns me off to them.

Let's hope Dawnguard fixes this. I'm holding off on Vamping up my mage until that comes out, in hopes that we get new types of vamps to choose from.

I like being a vampire. But the abilities you get with being one svck. In fact the only reason I become one was so I can benefit from the necromage perk.

Some of them, you can. You can also play the entire game at S4. Become a member of a guild and if the town attacks you the guild members will fight for you. This is cause for some very funny moments.

Vampires also make for the most powerful mages a character can play. That is rather worth it.

Between that and the lack of any quests for vamps (aside from the obligatory cure quest), that's why I don't really see my character becoming a vamp. It's what... a stat buff with a couple downsides? Meh.

In Skyrim as a Vampire I was incredibly disappointed.

The Vampires in Skyrim are HORRIBLE. They should be scrapped and redone next time around. First off, they don't follow the lore of Skyrim Vampires. Second, no clans at all (fingers are still crossed on that one). And Thirdly, this whole I get stronger by not drinking blood (which was supposed to be a trait of just the Vampires of Cyrodiil) has got to go. Honestly what's the point of putting vampires in the game? They had to know that people where not very happy with Vampires in Oblivion. It was one of the major topics (alongside werewolves) prior to Skyrim's release. Why would you leave something people obviously wanted changed in the game? Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of The Elder Scrolls and Bethesda. I'm doing what everyone else on here does, giving my input. Months after Skyrim's release and this Vampire issue STILL pissies me off. But I do agree with the OP, being immediately attacked when I enter a town REALLY svcks.

I never played Oblivion, but I did play Morrowind. For them to have no quests at all was a HUGE turn off to me. In fact, coming into Skyrim right off of Morrowind was a really big smack in the face to me in terms of story, period. They... really dropped the ball. I like the battle system more than Morrowind's, and love the more skill-focused combat over the stat focused from before. Sure, it needs work, but it's a step in the right direction IMO.

But the story... uggh, what were they thinking. It just felt way too toned down, and didn't have nearly the scale it needed to, especially faction questlines. Worst of all, Lycans were just a part of the fighter faction, and vamps had nothing at all. Honestly, they should have had their own questlines, or even factions within themselves, like Morrowind had...

Werewolves kinda svck. If there was an unarmored skill, I could probably take a hit without dying. But no such luck.

But what vamps and werewolves really need are quests. I know there's there's the Companions, but you can play the whole questline without transforming more than once.

A Vamp Clan war in Skyrim would be friggin awesome, perhaps the remnants of the True Volkihar fight to drive out the Cyrodiilic Strain that has taken their name. They function somewhat differently and you can choose a side...or hunt them all down

Do they even have an excuse for not making werewolves first person other than Laziness?

Werewolves are much more effective on single targets than in large groups, just spam the pimp hand.

The necromage perk, this boosts everything and benefits any build you play as a vampire, far outclassing being a werewolf.
